This week’s Foto Friday Fun features images chosen by seven readers including red rock, water, and a vintage turquoise pendant.
Diane and Nigel chose #709. This dry wash is the beginning of the Wire Pass trail in southern Utah. There is a spur trail that leads to the Wave, or further on this trail junctions with Buckskin Gulch.
Jodee and Bill chose #2110. They’ve been watching Atlantic waves in Maine. These Indian Ocean waves probably don’t look a whole lot different even though they crash upon a South African shore. But I’m thinking the landscapes are not the same at all.
Jeff chose #1036, “the time it took me to complete the daily sudoku today.” Although not actually sudoku, this vintage pendant/broche combination looks a little like a puzzle. This piece is in my personal collection but if you click the “Shop 4 Jewelry” tab under the header photo you can peruse the jewelry store.
Rita chose #9090. The thundering waters of the Orange River are about to drop 183 feet at Augrabies Falls National Park, South Africa.
Pam and John chose #8009. I’m glad their sunset choice was good last week because this one is rather weak. Taken from camp at Lone Rock along Lake Powell in Utah.
Sherry and David chose #5168. With all the hiking they do I know they’d like to hike the Upper Buckskin Trail. The sandstone layers, waves and colors change at almost every step. And occasionally veins of harder rock are not as easily eroded creating these blade-like fins.
Sallie and Bill chose #1910, “my mom’s birth year.” The rough road to Toroweap overlook, 3000 feet above the Colorado River, might not have been graded since this old piece of equipment was in operation.
My choice this week is an oldie I recently tripped upon from September 2015. Monsoon storms at Grand Canyon often clear enough in the early evening to allow the last rays of light to filter through to the east and cast a shine on Angels Gate.
Thank you for playing along with Foto Friday Fun which allows me to share these photographs and memories. Please join in next week by leaving a number between 1 and 9999 in your comment below.

Hi Gaelyn, Lovely set of photo’s this week. I like the necklace and wonder if the stones are turquoise? My favourite however is Monsoon storms Grand Canyon but that’s no surprise is it, and I love the light reflection there. No 8798 for next weeks foto Friday Thanks. Enjoy your weekend.
Thanks Rita. The necklace is turquoise and sterling silver, given to me by my Aunt a long time ago. Glad I did some archive digging and found that canyon shot. I’m putting that one on the photo website for sale. #8798 for you next week. Thank you for playing along.
Hi Gaelyn, I thought it was turquoise, its my favourite and some years ago a friend from Colorado brought me a small nugget from, I think it was Kingmar or Kingman mine. She came all that way to Crete to stay with us.Unfortunately she passed away shortly after. I was stunned because she seemed so healthy. We had a great time together and went to Akrotiri a Minoan archaeological site.
Turquoise is also one of my favorites and in jewelry, the older the better. Would have been the Kingman mine from Arizona. Not much comes out of there any more. I’ll bet the archeology site is amazing. Sorry she passed.
More magnificent pics – Mother Earth sure has some amazing places to share with us. Glad you’re sharing them too! Those waves look about the same as those here in the northern end of the Atlantic – not like those to the south! Love that first pic, makes me miss our Jeep rides in the desert.
Thanks Jodee. I’m glad you aren’t near the coast further south. I’m sure you’ll desert jeep ride again. No number this week? Be well.
I like the old rusty equipment on the road to Toroweap. I am always amazed at the ability to invent such things when the need arises, and it makes me ponder the rugged individuals who worked with them. My choice for this week is 7118. Thanks, I always enjoy your photos.
I do like rusty stuff and old equipment too. #7118 for you next week.
Beautiful photos all, I’m partial to the silver and turquoise necklace, it has a great vintage look about it.
My number for next week is 1437
Thanks. That piece is old pawn. #1437 for you next week.
I like our picture a lot, because it reminds me of back when we used to hike more. Bill always loved coming across old pieces of rusty equipment — it always made me laugh (with him, not at him ;>)…because he’d be so happy to find something besides desert scenery. Love that last picture of yours too, and, well, all of them as always. #733 (the time right now) for next week?
I too like to find artifacts when out on the land. Thanks. I think that last shot is going into the photos store. #733 for next week.
That’s rugged looking country for hiking but I’d be game to try it. Wonderful picture. I love your choice for this week too. #9118 for next week please.
You’d love the southern Utah hiking. #9118 for you next week.
Hope David is home and on the mend.
Just got home. On phone not sure if I can post comment. Great set of photos but I also love the last one. 1609 for next week please. Diane and Nigel
Welcome home. Hope you had a grand journey. You’re phone got you through. #1609 for next week. Look forward to hearing about your adventures.
AS others have mentioned your turquoise necklace is unique and I find it a bit hypnotic. Next week I’d like 1002 for the first time number of legitimate views on my little blog broke 1000.
Congrats on the 1000 milestone. #1002 for next week.
I always love your photos, but I especially loved the rocky fins and the Grand Canyon shot. Number 6543 for next week!
Thank you Lisa. I’ve put you down for #6543.
