This week’s Foto Friday Fun features images chosen by 11 readers is one mixed bag of photos from old to new.
Diane and Nigel chose #2702. Probably wondering why I took a pic of a pile of dirt but they might recognize a dug out termite mound. This one seen at Mountain Zebra National Park, South Africa.
Sherry and David chose #1. From 1958, my Dad’s mother and step-father, Grandma Bea and Grandpa Butch to me. She taught me how to play jacks and build houses from Pinochle decks. He taught me how to fish on Enterprise Lake where their Wisconsin log cabin was.
Debi chose #6389. A pretty, unidentified flower growing along the Waterfall Trail at Wild Spirit Backpackers Lodge in South Africa. One of the most amazing places I stayed.
Sue chose #2014, “for the year my soul cat Jeremy left the planet.” Always a sad time to loose a fur baby. So I send to you a sunset shot taken at Toroweap overlook along the rim of Grand Canyon National Park.
Yogi gets #33 for the number of words in his comment last week. He appreciates older cars so may like to see my Mom’s Cadillac being used as a workhorse back in 1974 while on vacation with boyfriend and friends in Bessemer, Michigan. When packing up to return home we’d put so much weight in the canoe we had to use the climbing gear on a huge tree branch to lift it then drove the car underneath.
Rita chose #1089. She loves seeing the Grand Canyon so should appreciate this shot of fellow staff hiking out of Matkatamiba Canyon during my Colorado River rafting trip in August 2011.
Jeff chose #1332, “for the upcoming meteor shower, which is courtesy of Swift-Tuttle with its 133.2 year orbit.” I guess you couldn’t really watch a meteor shower from inside the Rough Rider Saloon on the North Rim Grand Canyon National Park. But along the rim is quite a delight for night sky watching.
Pam and John chose #3007. A view they have surely enjoyed, sunset over the badlands from Font’s Point at Anza-Borrego Desert State Park, California on January, 7, 2015.
Sallie and Bill chose #8139 for Bill’s birthday. Happy belated! I give you an awesome rock seen along the White Domes Loop Trail in Valley of Fire State Park, Nevada.
Pat chose #731, “today’s date, minus the year.” On this date, 5-14-09, not minus the year, I camped at Lone Rock Beach along the shores of Lake Powell.
MoHobyDick chose #0813, “for the beginning of a special journey.” I think this was a special journey for the four brothers to experience hurricane force winds at Oregon Coast Aquarium in Newport, Oregon when Berta and I visited in November, 2014. In fact, she paid for this because the parents had no cash and we wanted to watch.
My choice from the last morning of my recent journey out on the Coconino National Forest when the early light brought on a golden glow as the moon looked on.

As always some very special photos here and yes I recognised the termite mound immediately, The view over the badlands is amazing and I especially like Rita’s photo of the canyon. 308 for next week please. Have a fab weekend Diane and Nigel
I figured you would know that was more than just a pile of dirt. Rafting the Colorado in Grand Canyon was a highlight of my life. #308 for you. Be well.
Fabulous photo’s as always Gaelyn.Glad you enjoyed your journey. Hurrah ! I managed a correct number for the Grand Canyon. My favourite this week is that wonderful sunset over the Bad Lands from Font’s Point. May I have No 1099 for next week’s foto Friday Thanks. Enjoy your weekend.
Thanks Rita. I knew you’d like that different look in the canyon. Can’t go wrong with a colorful sunset. #1009 for you next week.
You have had such an amazing journey. Wow.
Thanks Jenn. Haven’t we all? You should leave a number and join in.
I especially like #8139 of the strange rock along the White Domes Loop trail in the Valley of Fire . I would love to know the geology of it’s forming ! I choose #1984 for next week, in memory of a year when I came to a fork in the road, and took it.
Thanks Gail. Mostly sandstone in Valley of Fire, deposited as dunes. Frequently the raised part has more quartz so doesn’t erode as easily. Will put you down for #1984. Interesting to take a new path.
I love our photo choice for this week. We have spent many a HH at Fonts Point. Last year we found a Jeep road into the Badland and enjoyed riding under the point.
It’s funny how I can only comment on the blog when checking it through gmail on the phone. I can’t comment at all on the computer and can’t comment on the post through fb on either the phone or the computer. Very weird!
Next week #3008.
Thanks. I remember your adventures in Borrego.
I honestly don’t understand the comment problem for some but not others. Just had a bunch of work done on the website to make it SSL compliant and was hoping that would solve some of the problems. Guess not. #3008 for next week.
All fun photos – a canoe on a caddy? I tossed my dad his his dogs ashes off Font’s Point. I can hear ‘Patsy, Kommen Sie Here!’, every time I visit. OK his German wasn’t very good …
I’d like 8600 the elevation of Grandview Campground where I hope to the Persied Meteor Shower.
The Cadillac vacation was a winner, complete with Michigan racing stripes. My parents weren’t particularly happy about the whole thing.
Font’s Point will forever be a more memorable place, and Nine sprekense Durtch.
Which Grandview Campground, smoky CA, CO, or MT?
You get #8600. Enjoy the shower.
I need to travel more, for me there is only one. In the White Mountains of the Eastern Sierra is the Ancient Bristlecone Forest. Grandview Campground is the only recognized camping. It’s small, high, rustic, dry and FREE!
That should be gorgeous. I need to spend more time up there. Kind of wish the one of jobs I applied for on the Inyo had worked out. Except for all the smoke and fire.
Our rock will make Bill laugh, because once years and years ago on a camping trip, I fell in love with a big round red piece of rock out in the Eastern Washington woods and asked him to bring it home for our yard — it nearly broke his back and our little trailer (and was probably illegal, but we were young and ignorant.) i wonder if it is still in the backyard of our first house!! (In honor of youthful indiscretions, I’ll choose #1963, probably the year of the rock.
Beautiful scenery photos and the young lads experience at the simulator a sweet tribute to a generous lady and a good friend.
He’s a keeper for sure. Enjoy the rock. #1963 for you.
I always love your canyon pics, This week, the number is 7658
Thanks Yogi. #7658 for next week.
Really love the old pictures. What great memories of your grandmother and what a HOOT driving the car under the canoe. Too funny! Love the shot at Anza-Borego and the one Matcatamiba Canyon. Colorado River rafting trip was on our list when we were blind sided by Myeloma. Probably not going to happen now so seeing your posts and pictures is wonderful. How about #11 for next week? To Pam: Try the tabbing thing. It works for me on Chrome.
The oldies are fun. #11 for next week.
I am trying the trick you mentioned above. I guess I just skipped over it. Sherry suggested I give it a try. I believe this will work!
Yippee!!!!
