This week’s Foto Friday Fun features images chosen by nine readers including several from Grand Canyon and a bunch of oldies.
Pam and John chose #7013. One of many shots taken over the Kirkland railroad tracks during October 2016. I just love catching crepuscular rays.
Sue chose #59. A conte drawing from my drawing class taken in Wenatchee, Washington in 1988.
Diane and Nigel chose #1307, one of five in a panorama. They should remember this iconic view of Vishnu Temple and Wotan’s Throne from Cape Royal overlook on the North Rim Grand Canyon.
Sherry and David chose #9079, “the high where Winnona is parked and the high in nearby Great Smoky Mountains National Park.” Oza Butte, at almost 9079 feet in elevation, was sporting patches of brilliant red maples during the fall of 2014. Taken from the North Rim Grand Canyon National Park where not much red is seen like in Great Smoky.
Jeff chose #65, “as the 65th Over The Line World Championship games begin on Fiesta Island.” I might be a little over the line with my 1984 long permed hair in my craft store in Tonasket, Washington. I painted the rainbow for St Patrick’s Day.
Yogi chose #84. Daisies in the Wind, a stained glass piece I made during 1987 when living in East Wenatchee, Washington.
Pat chose #1234. The Colorado River upstream from Navajo Bridge. Always worth the stop because it’s a likely place to see California Condors.
Rita chose #1774. Monsoon is my favorite time of year at Grand Canyon. Super bonus when partial inversion occurs with clouds swirling around the temples. This shot from the Bright Angel Point trailhead on the North Rim near the Grand Lodge.
Sallie and Bill chose #6. Back in 1970 when boyfriend Paul and I wore matching sweaters. We were dancing at a party in Downers Grove, Illinois.
My choice gives you a clue where I headed first on my current road trip. Well sort of anyway.

What a great choice of photos and difficult to choose a favourite from. Love our photo of the canyon and so glad we got to see it in real life with you. Your art work though is very impressive, love both the drawing and the stained glass. 2007 for next week please. Travel safely and enjoy the trip. How is Sierra coping with the change? Take care Diane and Nigel
Thanks Diane. I too am glad to have shared the canyon with you in real time. Stained glass was fun but not very portable. Sierra hides when the truck rolls then runs out the camper door when we stop. I have to be very careful. Not sure how this is working yet. #2007 for next week.
#1307 pano is WONDERFUL. It gives me a different perspective than others I’ve seen. Enjoy your trip. I’d like #1726 for next week.
Thanks. I love to take panoramas. Am enjoying the peace and quiet of Marble View. #1726 for next week.
Wow, your canyon shots are spectacular. I think I’ve said that before but it is true.
Next week is 7762
Thanks Alan. Hope to get some more real soon. #7762 for next week.
Of course I love all pictures of the Grand Canyon and especially the Monsoon clouds. But your shot from upstream of the Navajo bridge is outstanding. Still I think my very favorite is the first one this week. I can sure see how you turned into such a wonderful photographer with your previous artistic abilities. If I could draw like that I’d do Nature Journals and forget blogging.
Your matching sweater picture brought back lots of memories. My HS boyfriend and I had two sets. So cute. I love that you have all those old pictures. I MUST scan mine. I just can’t seem to muster the gusto to do it.
Thanks for the lovely comment Sherry. I’m blushing. Always had an interest in art. When I told my parents I wanted to go to the Chicago Art Institute they told me “artists starve, you better get a job.” Sure glad I took lots of classes as I believe it does help with the photography. No number this week?
Interesting, the photo from 1988 made me go all the way back to 1988 in my own heart. So many gorgeous photos, and yet that drawing spoke to me, a hint of what might have been hiding in your heart as well. For me, 1988 was a watershed year of the beginning of really huge changes that I had no clue were as huge as they were. Maybe I’ll choose another watershed year for next week’s foto friday, 2002
I’ve always been interested in some kind of art. I like that the images bring you memories too. So will see what #2002 brings for next week.
I too love your drawings Gaelyn.Such a wonderful collection here, My fav this week is the Colorado River upstream from Navajo Bridge. I think I’ll go for No 6699 for next weeks Foto Friday. I have a job remembering if I have already chosen some numbers. Anyway have a great weekend.
Thanks. I haven’t practiced drawing in decades now. No worry if you choose the same number more than once as there are multiples of all the numbers. So #6699 for next week.
I cannot a favorite, the Canyon with the monsoonal clouds, or the stillness of its grandeur. I’ll pick the crepuscular rays, because of their unusual majesty. For next week I’ll take 195 the distance to the North Rim in your last photo and my guess where your road trip will take you.
I am just shy of that mileage but I’ll give you #195.
Really nice photos, Gaelyn, and thanks for my condor-canyon view. I like your oldie photos, too….
Thanks Pat. Have you down for #43.
Always forget to leave a number….put me down for 43, the number of days until I leave to visit my daughter.
Oooh, those matching sweaters! Times gone by. Loved the canyon picture with all the color tones and it is so interesting to me that monsoon season is your favorite time of year there! Safe and fun travels…I’m excited for you. #1970 for the year of the sweaters.
The first couple of seasons at the canyon I hated the monsoon rain, then I embraced it. So dramatic and powerful light. #1970 for you.
