This week’s Foto Friday Fun features images chosen by 11 readers including art, Africa, and flowers.
Jim and Diana chose #60. From 1988 when I lived in Wenatchee, Washington and attended art classes at the local community college.
Jeff chose #1871, “the year South Bay Salt Works was founded in San Diego.” The only salt would be found on the table at Kaibab Lodge where I took this photo after dinner in August 2011.
Gayle chose #1961, the year her oldest child was born. This shot was the fourth year I worked at Grand Canyon and enjoyed the fall colors on the aspen.
Rita chose #3986. Wildlife in Kruger National Park uses the road and they have right of way. This shot from my 2014 visit to South Africa.
Lisa chose #5443, “my bike lock combo.” This combo of the Indian Ocean at sunrise made for 100s of photos. Taken from camp at the Scottburgh Caravan Park, South Africa 2-22-14.
Diane and Nigel chose #2906. They may have driven the Swartberg Pass in South Africa. I could drive it many times just to see the amazing twists in this red rock.
MoHobyDick chose #32. From another art class this time at Shoreline Community College in northern Seattle, 1987. I’ve always admired watercolor but am best at making mud with the paint.
Yogi chose #2095. Another shot at the Indian Ocean, this time sunset, at Tsitsikamma National Park, South Africa.
Pam and John chose #9206. The road to camp flooded while Joan and I were hiking in the rain at Augrabies Falls National Park, South Africa 3-25-14.
Sallie and Bill chose #718. I don’t know the name of this South African flower, other than pretty, seen at Blyde River Canyon Nature Reserve during my first trip to South Africa in 2010.
Sherry and David chose #2387. The Pienaars River funs through Camdeboo National Park near Graaff-Reinet, South Africa. A great park for wildlife, views, and geology.
My choice this week from a walk Monday into the Weaver Mountains. The Sacred Datura, or Jimson Weed, is a poisonous hallucinogenic with beautiful five inch flowers.
Thank you for playing along with Foto Friday Fun which allows me to share these photographs and memories. Please join in next week by leaving a number between 1 and 9999 in your comment below.

Love the zebra hiding behind the giraffes. “Maybe they won’t see me back here.” 🙂
Let’s go with 6884 next week.
Especially nice to see multiple species together as it doesn’t happen often. #6884 for you next week.
Thanks for showing the Sacred Datura, I have a lot of those in the field that I walk my hounds through daily. They never go near them or try to eat them, but it’s good to know they are poisonous. A surprise also.
Can’t imagine datura being any better for dogs than us.
As far as not being able to make comments, I might have found the solution. I thought I could not make a comment either after I typed in the ‘comments box’. It would not let me type my name, email address nor website. So I tried a different browser, same result.
I did this to be able to make a comment.
I put the cursor after the last word of my comment, then used my Tab key which moved me to the ‘Name’, I used the Tab key to move to ‘Email’ and then Tabbed to ‘Website’.
I was able to click the boxes below the submit key and then clicked the submit key … everything worked and my comment posted.
Yippee!!! Thanks for finding a go around Steve! I will post your solution at the bottom of posts. Sure seems strange.
Hi Gaelyn, I am going to try the method Steve tried in order to post a comment. Here goes. First of all, excellent photo’s this week and my fav is Swartberg Pass. No 5984 for next week. Thanks.
Thanks Rita. Glad this method is working. I could spend a lot of time in the Swartberg Mountains. All that red rock reminded me of home, inverted. #5984 for you next week.
Ok, I’m one of those who’s never been able to comment before…Here goes…
Thanks Mark. The solution doesn’t make sense but if it works I’ll take it.
When it would not let me move my cursor to ‘name’ or the other boxes, but it let me click the small boxes below the submit button … I clicked ‘submit’ and nothing happened. So I tried with three different browsers … Safari, Firefox and Google Chrome.
All had the same result … could not comment.
Then when tried what I said above, it worked.
You might check your settings in your website or blog dashboard under ‘comments’ … maybe a setting was changed during an update to your server or the latest update to the browser you use. It definitely does seem strange.
I can’t tell you how many times I’ve checked under comments/discussion on the dashboard. Just not many choices other than allowing anonymous which I don’t want to do because of spammers. Must be a glitch in the code somewhere, and that’s all Greek to me. Thanks for figuring it out.
Sounds like you use WordPress. If you don’t mind I will post this issue in the forum to see what kind of answers I get or do some internet searches. It’s too hot already to do much outside so I’ll have time to look around the net and see what I find.
*** The plot thickens … on this comment, I went to the post, then clicked ‘reply’ under your comment. After typing the above sentence as a test I clicked my cursor in the ‘name’ box and IT WORKED LOL. I was able to click all the boxes and fill in the information and post his with no issues, whereas this morning on my first comment I could not. ***
If it’s too hot for the doggies it’s probably too hot for you too.
Yes, I use WordPress with a GoBlog theme. Do feel free to share the problem. I’ve tried searching and finally gave up. Thanks. I appreciate your participation.
This problem has been intermittent for many.
Thanks again Steve. Your suggestion seems to be working for most.
Lots of flooding photos today. You seemed to have talent as an artist.
Thanks Yogi. I so used to enjoy drawing although I never felt like painting was my thing. Then came blogging…. #5902 for you next week.
oops, my number is 5902 for next week
I love all the comments today. I will try the workaround as well and see if it works for me this time. The girebra was a very cool animal, never heard of them before. 🙂 I’ll chose 4594 for next time, an important life change anniversary for me.
Yea, it’s working!!!! For whatever reason. Sort of like a push me pull you. #4594 for next week.
Lots of Dutura in SoCal too, break of a piece and take a small whiff to bet the scent of peanut butter – a big whiff and you can feel constriction in your throat. All good pictures this week.
Next week #242 in honor of our nations 242nd birthday.
Thanks. Think I’ll pass on sniffing the Datura. #242 for next week.
I’m not sure I follow all this about how to leave a comment but I’m going to go back up and try the first solution. I’ll take 5 giraffes and one zebra please along with the flooded road, my river and two pieces of art work. If I could draw that well I’d be totally thrilled. How about 628 for the day I got this darn poison ivy.
Yipee!!!! Looks like it worked. I believe, drawing like most things, takes constant practice to make better. Instead, we are both good with our cameras. So sorry to hear about poison ivy and hope you stop itching soon. #628 for next week.
Pretty works for me. i like ‘my’ flower a lot such a soft pretty color! The Datura fascinates me ; it was fun to see that picture too. Beautiful scenery — your watercolor doesn’t look at all muddy, i think you’re better than you think you are. — Loved all the pics but especially those giraffes who look like they are putting on a parade for you, with the zebra being out-of-step. 712 for next time? Oldest child’s birthday.
When it comes to almost anything, I am impatient to do well, like the painting which is only half bad and would probably get better with practice. But I moved on to other crafts to refine. Yet I thank you for thinking it is good. #712 for you.
Sorry a bit late but the week away has set me back somewhat!! Great set of photos as always and I love your artwork. Have done that trip through the Swartberg pass many times, thanks for the memories. 1007 for next week please. Take care, Diane and Nigel.
Thanks Diane. I know how easy it is to get behind. Love, love, love Swartberg and would love to spend more time there. #1007 for you.
