This week’s Foto Friday Fun features images chosen by seven readers including a look at regrowth five years after the Yarnell Fire.
Jim and Diana chose #70, “the degrees north the sun was yesterday here in Vermont.” and one photo of three in panorama. The first time I flew to South Africa in March 2010 I chose an 11 hour layover in Frankfurt, Germany where it was sunny but extremely cold. The other choice was Amsterdam. While trip planning I corresponded with a CouchSurfer to show me around and we walked through the older, mostly rebuilt portions of the city for seven hours. What a delight. She really knew her city and its history. Plus we ate schnitzel with green sauce and drank cider beer.
Pam and John chose #2206. May 29, 2015 view over Grand Canyon from the North Rim. Rangers get paid in sunsets.
Sherry and David chose #9594, “for the temperatures the first two days I arrive in the little town outside the Great Smokies.” No where near that warm when Joan and I camped at Rietspruitdam Caravan Park in Ventersdorp, South Africa during their summer in March, 2014.
Jeff chose #859, “the number of minutes in our summer solstice day in San Diego.” How about a piece of ‘sand…’e a go rock, actually close up Navajo sandstone found around Page, Arizona. OK, it’s a stretch, I tried.
Diane and Nigel chose #2206. The long and desert beautiful drive to Hovenweep National Monument was worth while for the Native ruins and a lunar eclipse.
Rita chose #1099. Dark and thus blurry shot taken in Antelope Slot Canyon near Page, Arizona. An amazing geologic feature with way too many people even back in 2009.
MoHobyDick chose #630, “in memory of our 19 Granite Mountain Hotshots and with love for Yarnell and Peeples Valley.” I’d guess a few Rock squirrels like this seen on the North Rim were lost in the Yarnell Fire. However, I believe the wildlife are more savvy about evacuation than us humans.
My choice this week, also in memory of the 2013 Yarnell Fire, shows how the growth has returned in five years. If you want to know more check out this recent AZCentral news story.

I love the German church! Hard to beat the architecture in those Grand buildings.
Let’s go with 60 this week, as…well…uh…it’s just a number, right?
The architecture in Frankfurt was amazing. You get #60 next week.
Another beautiful photo of another sunset from the North Rim, thanks for sharing your payday with us. Next week I’d like 1871 the year South Bay Salt Works was founded in San Diego.
Thanks Jeff. Wish I was still getting those paychecks. #1871 for next week.
I’d like to see the whole pano of the church in Frankfurt, Germany. I’ve been to Frankfurt a number of times… as my oldest child was born in the US Army Hospital there in 1961.
That is the whole pano Gayle. I forgot to label what church. It is adjacent to the Roman Baths ruins. Are you playing along next week with #1961?
I love the shot of the Grand Canyon from the north rim. Your blog gives me the travel bug, reminding me that there are so many beautiful places to go, even locally. Thank you! For next week, I’ll pick 5443, my bike lock combo
Thanks Lisa. I always have the travel bug. Hope you’re getting out more than I have lately. #5443 for you next week.
Looks like I can post again!!!!
That first photo totally threw me, I thought you were in Europe and coming to visit 🙂
As always a great selection and I do love those slot canyons.
Amazing how nature takes over after a fire, but sad when it is in or around a town and people lose so much. We are away for a week with no WiFi but will catch up on our return.
2906 for next week please.
Take care and watch out for scorpions, hugs from us both Diane and Nigel
YEA!!!!!! Wonder what changed. How I wish I was on my way to visit. #2906 for next week. Enjoy your travels.
Love the squirrel in #630!
Yes, it is wonderful to see the new growth in Yarnell. It’s been a few months since our last drive through there. Time to visit again, soon.
Sadly, there is still enough evidence of the fire but so much growth as well. Let me know if you come this way. No number this week?
Great photos as usual. I love your story about wandering around Frankfurt with a local.
Antelope Canyon is on my bucket list.
My number next week is 2095.
Thanks Yogi. Try to visit Antelope Canyon during winter. It is otherwise crazy crowded, but still worth seeing. #2095 for next week.
Welcome home from vacation.
The slot canyon shot is my favorite picture because i’ll never be able to hike one so it’s great to see (Plus apparently too many people so even if we could it wouldn’t be this beautiful and peaceful). Loved the story about having the CouchSurfer guide to show you around her city… i visited your link — cool idea! May I start playing again next week? #718
Sadly, many of the natural icons are over crowded. That wasn’t a problem in Frankfurt. #718 for you next week.
Diane’s comment got me all excited but alas I still can’t comment from my laptop. Red stars by comment, name, email. It will only let me type my website. My favorites are the fire then and now. What an impressive recovery. If only so many lives had not been lost. So sad that we cannot recover them. I’ll try #2387 for next week please.
I’m sorry. It’s such a pain. I am thankful you go through the hoops to comment. Although there is evidence of the fire around the regrowth is phenomenal. #2387 for next week.
