This week’s Foto Friday Fun features images chosen by 12 readers including a few different beaches and a lot of canyon shots which makes me just a little sad.
Diane and Nigel chose #806. During their southwest visit including Grand Canyon they didn’t get to hike the nine miles down into Havasu Canyon where the Havasupai, people of the blue-green waters, live and farm. Fellow Ranger Jake and I spent three nights in the canyon during April 2010 before our season began on the North Rim.
Jim and Diana chose #8890, “for the number of steps we did on Mr. Rockefeller’s carriage roads at Acadia yesterday.” Not near that many steps to this view of Brady Peak from Point Imperial on the North Rim Grand Canyon. However way more steps than that to Mount Humphreys seen in the distance.
Pam and John chose #6008. I wouldn’t say the Salton Sea is my most favorite place to camp but it was all about the birds and several dramatic sunsets.
Debi chose #2345. This shot seems perfect for her in more ways than one. While staying at Wild Spirit Backpackers Lodge in South Africa several beautiful ladies and I went to the beach.
MoHobyDick chose #1956, “the year my Bff was born. Her birthday is Sunday.” A Happy belated Birthday with this downstream view of the Colorado River from Tuweep overlook at Grand Canyon.
Rita chose #555 on a tweet, which I’d hear plenty of if I walked into the meadows along SR67 on the Kaibab National Forest adjacent to the Grand Canyon North Rim.
Jodee and Bill chose #4111. On safari in Kruger National Park South Africa it’s common to see lions on the road in the morning like this, or late in the afternoon.
Sherry and David chose #731. Echo cliffs are seen along SR89 on the drive to the North Rim as I journeyed back to Grand Canyon during April 2009.
Jeff chose #1977, “the length of the OB Pier, the longest concrete pier on the west coast.” From the same trip as above to Toroweap but now looking upstream with the longest direct drop of 3000 feet into Grand Canyon’s Colorado River.
Yogi chose #1005. For those in the know and follow me on fb you’ll know Jacob Lake Inn is the must stop for cookies. This would have been the first stop of the 2009 season on my way to the North Rim on April 18, 2009.
Sue chose #1987, “the year of the Harmonic Convergence…remember that one?” OK I had to look it up. I might have had a harmonic experience hiking in the Drakensburg Mountains when a monster South African storm opened up overhead.
Ann chose #614, “the date that I’ll pick up my brand new trailer in Chilliwack, BC.” When back in the southwest this winter, I recommend dropping the new trailer around Kanab, Utah and hiking Buckskin Gulch slot canyon. Look closely for the little bird ahead of me on the trail.
Because it’s Nature Photography Day my choice is my entry with North American Nature Photography Association. Just down the street I often use the boulders for evening foreground and Tuesday night a few clouds hung for the sunset show. Bonus, the Datura curled closed for the night wedged into what soil could be found.
Thank you for playing along with Foto Friday Fun which allows me to share these photographs and memories. Please join in next week by leaving a number between 1 and 9999 in your comment below.

My favorite this week is your Havasu Canyon photo. That is a beautiful waterfall!
Let’s pick 1919, the year Acadia N.P. was established as Lafayette N.P.
All the waterfalls in Havasu Canyon were remarkable. #1919 for you next week.
Hi Gaelyn,
I love the #1977 shot. I would like to see what 1976 or 1978 look like. As often as I see images of the Grand Canyon or it up front and personal it still amazes me.
I certainly hope you resolve the job issue and can return there.
Hugs to Sierra.
Rosemary
Thanks Rosemary. I’ll never tire of looking at Grand Canyon. We’ll see what 1976 or 1978 brings you next week.
Oh Wow, great photos and it looks like I can comment. I thought that our photo would be sure to be my favourite, but by the time I got to the bottom, everyone was my favourite. A really great selection. Not going to push my luck and write too much! 1506 for next week please. Cheers Diane and Nigel
Yea, you made it through the comment wall! #1506 for next week.
The Tuweep photos are great, I almost made it there … once. But aqua waters of Havasu would be my pick for the week. What’s not to like about a waterfall? Hope you receive some recognition for your contribution at Nature Photography Day! Next week 2606 the estimated cost of repairs for my old Toyota truck.
BTW – comments section work fine from Google Chrome on Windows 10
Thanks Jeff. Toroweap is definitely worth the drive in the right rig. #2606 for next week.
I love all your shots!!
My number for next week is 5001
Thanks. #5001 for next week. Now get on with that vacation.
Amazing. How MANY times I have been out walking or hiking in the woods up here in the PacNW only to discover a little bird running ahead of me on the trail for a long while, not just a few feet but for 20-30 minutes. Can’t say that it happens even 50% of the time, but it happens often! And here in the photo of yours that I picked by number and not knowing what the context would be, there’s a little bird ahead of you on the trail. Life just sort of comes around like that doesn’t it? 🙂 Those are all beautiful photos … thanks for sharing.
I wonder if the birds are leading to or away. Thanks for stopping by Ann. No number this week?
