This week’s Foto Friday Fun features images chosen by seven readers including a look at regrowth five years after the Yarnell Fire.
Jim and Diana chose #70, “the degrees north the sun was yesterday here in Vermont.” and one photo of three in panorama. The first time I flew to South Africa in March 2010 I chose an 11 hour layover in Frankfurt, Germany where it was sunny but extremely cold. The other choice was Amsterdam. While trip planning I corresponded with a CouchSurfer to show me around and we walked through the older, mostly rebuilt portions of the city for seven hours. What a delight. She really knew her city and its history. Plus we ate schnitzel with green sauce and drank cider beer.
Pam and John chose #2206. May 29, 2015 view over Grand Canyon from the North Rim. Rangers get paid in sunsets.
Sherry and David chose #9594, “for the temperatures the first two days I arrive in the little town outside the Great Smokies.” No where near that warm when Joan and I camped at Rietspruitdam Caravan Park in Ventersdorp, South Africa during their summer in March, 2014.
Jeff chose #859, “the number of minutes in our summer solstice day in San Diego.” How about a piece of ‘sand…’e a go rock, actually close up Navajo sandstone found around Page, Arizona. OK, it’s a stretch, I tried.
Diane and Nigel chose #2206. The long and desert beautiful drive to Hovenweep National Monument was worth while for the Native ruins and a lunar eclipse.
Rita chose #1099. Dark and thus blurry shot taken in Antelope Slot Canyon near Page, Arizona. An amazing geologic feature with way too many people even back in 2009.
MoHobyDick chose #630, “in memory of our 19 Granite Mountain Hotshots and with love for Yarnell and Peeples Valley.” I’d guess a few Rock squirrels like this seen on the North Rim were lost in the Yarnell Fire. However, I believe the wildlife are more savvy about evacuation than us humans.
My choice this week, also in memory of the 2013 Yarnell Fire, shows how the growth has returned in five years. If you want to know more check out this recent AZCentral news story.
