This week’s Foto Friday Fun features images chosen by 11 readers including several locations on the Colorado Plateau, teenage me, and a belly dancer.
Diane and Nigel chose #1805. Sunset the first night at Monks Cowl camp at the base of the Drakensberg Mountains, South Africa. (Post card arrived from Bordeaux thank you.)
Patti and Abi chose #730. Bison-cattle hybrids, often called beefalo, have roamed on the northern Kaibab National Forest since they were introduced in the late 1800s. They also frequently roam into Grand Canyon National Park, and there are way too many due to a limited number of predators.
Jeff chose #516, “the day a favorite blogger, Lynne Braden of Winnie Views, passed away.” Lynne reached out to me regarding Berta’s cancer. I am sorry I didn’t have more time to get to know her. In her honor, one shadow shot out of a four photo panorama looking down Arch Creek drainage from Sunset View overlook in Cedar Breaks National
Rita chose #8959. I’m guessing this rock cairn started off naturally. I don’t consider it needless geologic graffiti because it marks the way along an otherwise unmarked trail to the Wave in Coyote Buttes North Paria Canyon-Vermilion Cliffs Wilderness in Arizona and Utah.
George chose #1951, “the year we immigrated to the United States, arriving on the troopship General R. M. Blatchford.” He and wife Nancy were volunteers for many years at the North Rim and I had the privilege to work with them for several seasons. Unfortunately, we never went to Toroweap together for this iconic view of the Colorado River.
Sallie and Bill chose #4. My mother, June Loomis, graduated from LaGrange high school in Illinois during the 1940s.
Yogi chose #9651. He likes the classics but I don’t know one from another. This shot from the Yarnell Car Show in 2015. So what are we looking at here Yogi?
Jodee and Bill get #39 for the number of words in their comment last week. A rather fuzzy view of Montezuma Valley as seen from my drive home when working at Mesa Verde National Park, Colorado in 2005.
Pam and John chose #5081. They may have hiked the upper Buckskin Trail in Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monument. But you have to go off trail for this view of what may be Ed Meiyers secret.
Sherry and David chose #5192. A sunset view from Crazy Jug Point, one of my favorite canyon viewpoints where I camp on the rim of Grand Canyon for free.
MoHobyDick gets #31 for the number of words in their comment last week. A 1971 oldie of me by a swimming hole in Braidwood Illinois.
My choice for this week from last Saturday’s Yarnell Daze parade. (More coming on that.) Ustadza Azra is the director of the New Moon School of Bellydance in Prescott, Arizona. Thinking I should take some lessons, maybe start a new career. What do you think?
Thank you for playing along with Foto Friday Fun which allows me to share these photographs and memories. Please join in next week by leaving a number between 1 and 9999 in your comment below.
Do you have a favorite this week?

These are all great photos, but I think my choice is a fitting tribute to Lynne. On this Memorial Day weekend my choice for next week is 1942 Manzanar opened Feb 21 and 2 days latter Goleta was shelled.
Thanks Jeff. A sad day in history. #1942 for next week.
Just curious, did the comment form look different? I’m struggling to get GDPR compliant.
Good Luck with your GDPR efforts, UGH! Yes the comments section is behaving differently – I have to use the key to maneuver, but that may be the last Windoze update and nothing to do with your changes.
Thanks Jeff.
Sorry you had to count my words!! But love the flaming peek across the amazing valley. Something about that pic of the herd with the tall trees in the background really grabs me. Of course your canyon shots are always magic. And the dancer is stunning. Love how you captured the flow of her movements.
#8221 for next week please.
Thanks Jodee. Thank goodness I don’t really have to count words. 😉 A friend said they’d help me remove the busy background behind the dancer. #8821 for next week.
Did you have to check any extra box to comment. I’m struggling with GDPR compliance.
I didn’t know you rangered at MVNP, too. I would like to encourage you to write a book or at least an e-book about your ranger years telling stories that I am sure we would find interesting. Along with your accompanying photos, I’m sure it would be a seller, maybe even in national park visitor centers.
Thanks for the encouragement Rick. I have written about Rangering on the blog. Start here https://geogypsytraveler.com/2008/11/03/gypsy-life-seasonal-park-ranger-summer-1992/
My favorite is the rock cairn on the way to the Wave. The wave is near the top of my bucket list.
The car, it is a blue car. I love the classic cars but I can’t tell one from the other, and I prefer to drive modern cars.
I have known too many fellow bloggers who have passed away and others who have disappeared without a trace. (from the internet)
My number next week is 6950.
Start planning for the Wave now. I too miss some bloggers from the old days. #6950 for you.
My favourite this week is the one you chose Gaelyn ” Yarnell Daze Parade.” I love watching the belly dance ,the dresses are so colourful and the movements of the dance itself is very sensuous. Thanks for sharing these wonderful photo’s. No 889 for next week please.
