This week’s Foto Friday Fun features images chosen by 12 readers including several old scanned and P&S photos that are a bit blurry but I save them all just for the memories.
Diane and Nigel chose #405. Javelinas wander through our Yarnell Arizona yards all the time, especially when we spread bird seed. They usually travel in a herd, and on this day a baby that couldn’t keep up was left behind. A sad story about the web of life.
Rita chose #3789. A lovely room with a view of the Indian Ocean where Joan (see her truck) and I stayed at Seaview B&B in Kidds Beach, South Africa 2-21-13.
Jim and Diana chose #1826, “for the year that on July 4, both Thomas Jefferson and John Adams Passed…50 years to the day of when they signed the Declaration of Independence.” I didn’t know that and am related to John Adams on my mother’s side of the family although foggy on the direct line of descent. All this has nothing to do with this foggy valley view from hiking in the Drakensburg Mountains of South Africa in 2010.
Sue chose #1961, “the year I fell in love with Michelangelo and decided I wanted to see Florence.” A trip she is currently saving for. I’m just saving images of the canyon right now.
Donna chose #1017. If you drive north from Bad Water, Arizona on SR89A the sweeping view includes the Vermilion Cliffs, House Rock Valley, and the Kaibab Plateau to Jacob Lake where you could turn south on SR64 to the North Rim Grand Canyon.
Jodee and Bill chose #1090. A blurry shot at Antelope Slot Canyon in Page Arizona. The only photos that turned our were taken by the guide. Sure glad I saw it in 2009 as the crowds have definitely increased. But if I returned now I’d make better pictures.
Sherry and David chose #35, the number of letters in her current feeling “it is way too windy way to constantly here” In 1989 I became an animal keeper at the California Living Museum in Bakersfield, California. During training I thought it was Way too crowded in a tiny enclosure with a kind of cross-eyed looking male Cougar. I got over it.
Sallie and Bill get #24 for the number of words in their comment. Being they send summer in Oregon I wonder if they’ve ever stopped at the Rough and Ready Botanical Garden along the Redwood Highway between Cave Junction and the coast.
Pam and John chose #8900. I’m guessing they’ve camped in this area off Darby Well Road BLM south of Ajo, Arizona.
Yogi gets #75 for the number of words in his comment. (He’s old and sometimes forgets. ) This is an old scanned photo from 1985 of my storefront decorated for Christmas.
Rosemary chose #144, “this years Kentucky Derby.” I’ve never watched the Derby, but in the year 2007 I rafted on the Rogue River, amongst many other adventures during my last season as a Park Ranger at Oregon Caves.
Jeff chose #205, “the number of days InSight will take to travel to Mars.” Wouldn’t take me near that long to travel across this meadow to the forest beyond. This view along the Cape Royal Road on the North Rim Grand Canyon taken my first season 8-24-08. (My favorite this week.)
My choice, Wednesday’s sunrise from the camper door with the fort/largest bird feeder in Berta’s yard.
Thank you for playing along with Foto Friday Fun which allows me to share these photographs and memories. Please join in next week by leaving a number between 1 and 9999 in your comment below.
Do you have a favorite this week?
My apologies if you are unable to leave a comment. I have done everything I know how to solve the problem short of leaving comments open to anonymous which I won’t do because of spam problems. I am open to suggestions. Please know I appreciate everyone who lands here and stays long enough to read. I really do like comments and try to respond to them all. Although difficult to choose I think we like our picture the best of the Javelinas despite the sad story that goes with it. Of course, sunrise and sunsets are always at the top of the list.
Presumably no news yet or you would have told us. 1105 for next week please. Take care hugs from us both, Diane and Nigel
The Javelinas kind of remind me of Warthogs. #1105 for you next week.
That’s cool about John Adams, Gaelyn. It’s fun to see who’s hanging around in the family tree!
Let’s go with 1859 for next week, the year of John Brown’s raid at Harpers Ferry.
Guess if your family has been in this country long enough there are famous people and Natives hanging on that tree. #1859 for next week.
Love your Rogue River photo, Gaelyn! It’s on my bucket list to visit one day.
How about either #523 or #0523 … I’m new to the numbering system … for DH’s and my 20th anniversary.
See you down the road!
I recommend the Rogue River for a fun but not overly crazy river. #523 for you. Happy Anniversary, early. Thanks for playing along.
Always nice variety of great pictures, but i select the sunny meadow. Next week I’d like 1911 the year Solvang (sunny meadow) was founded by Danes from the mid-west.
I haven’t been Solvang in decades. #1911 for you then.
Not sure if it was my favorite, but the javelinas caught my eye. Although I didn’t have it in me to read the post. I’ll choose 199 for the highway with the Rough and Ready site, even though in all our travels we haven’t ever actually stopped there. We are usually in a hurry to get to the beach and are in the motor home. However, I have actually stopped more often at the darlingtonia botanical site a bit farther along on that highway.
#199, a good choice. I had forgotten about the Darlingtonia site which I too grew fond of. Plus the redwoods. Sigh…. I need a PNW fix.
We love the Page area but haven’t done Antelope Canyon yet – someday I’m sure! Love that canyon pic and the surrounding forest. Definitely think that last pic is my fav this week – wow!
#3060 next week please.
Antelope is worth seeing, at least once. #3060 for you.
I love the photo best of the cape royal forest. I would love to walk across to the forest.
Hey, I’m old and I know that I missed the number, I could kick myself, I’m going for 6363 for next week!!
Thanks Yogi, for taking my teasing. 6363 for you.
My favourite this week is Rogue River, Oregon Caves. I always fancied rafting, when I was much younger of course. As always wonderful photo’s Gaelyn. No 5347 for next week please. Have a good week ahead.
Thanks Rita. I grew up power boating on big rivers but not enough fast water in Illinois for much fast rafting. #5347 for your.
Next time #3917 before you have to count my words again. (I’m way older than Yogi). We have not been to the Rough and Ready Botanical Garden and I will add it to my list of things to do in Oregon!! I would really love to be one of the too many visitors at Antelope Slot Canyon — blurry picture is still beautiful. I didn’t remember the post about the baby javelina — maybe I wasn’t reading you then yet? Sad, but yes, the circle of life indeed.
LOL, thank goodness the software counts words for me. If you travel the Redwood Highway add the Darlingtonia Botanical area as well. I’m glad to have experienced other less crowded slot canyons since my introduction to them at Antelope. It was amazing. #3917 for you.
Oh — if you are talking about the Darlingtonia area near Florence, we’ve visited it many times, love it, and have managed so far not to be eaten by those other-worldly flesh-eating plants!! Is there another one? More to look up, (I dropped back by to read the name of the Botanical Garden because I lost my note … going to add it to my “to Visit” data base right this minute. Thanks.
The Darlingtonia area I know is along 199/Redwood Hwy between Cave Junction and Crescent City. They are incredible plants.
I love the commentary you write with the pictures to link them to the people who chose them. Really nice. The reasons people give for their numbers are fun too. I can’t help but feel so sorry for that poor cougar. What a life for him. Wow what a room you had with that view of the Indian Ocean. Bet that was hard to leave. Can’t say I care much for Javalinas. But I love Sue’s canyon picture and the skies in your final picture and the one on Darby Wells.
I’ll take #1170 for next week for no reason at all.
Thanks Sherry. It’s nice to know most of you well enough to make some correlations. Hope you are still enjoying an ocean view. #1170 for you.
