This week’s Foto Friday Fun features images chosen by 13 readers including a couple of South African flowers and three shots of mini-me.
Rita chose #638. In 2011 I joined an All Employee River Trip on the Colorado River from Phantom Ranch to Diamond Creek. It is easy to see how the power of erosion shapes the canyon walls towering 1000s of feet above the river. Do you see a giant boulder caught in a drainage?
Susie of Arabia and I have known each other a long time, and met in 2011, but not since 1955 when this shot was taken. After several years of persistence, the blog comment form let her comment. [Wish I could solve the problem permanently.] I’m guessing, in her excitement, she forgot to leave a number so gave her #34 for the number of words in her comment. Thanks for hanging in there.
Sue (63 words) gets another shot of me, this time at two with my Mom in Chicago, Illinois. Always fun for me to see where the really low numbers go.
Gumo chose #65, “as I will be finally on Medicare soon.” Me too, next year. Let me know when you figure it out. Another of me from 1956 and certainly not thinking about Medicare.
Debi chose #2014, “It was a particularly good year!” For me also and I think because of traveling for both of us. And though we haven’t traveled together, yet, we have several mutual friends. One in particular much in our thoughts lives in Flagstaff, Arizona where this shot was taken in 2010 at Elden Pueblo. Someday, my friend, our paths will cross in real time.
Pam and John chose #8325. They may recognize this view, almost in their new back yard, along the White Domes Trail in Valley of Fire State Park, Nevada.
Diane and Nigel chose #1904. She might know what these pretty pink flowers are seen hiking in the Drakensburg Mountains in South Africa during my first visit in 2010.
Patti and Abi chose #710. A not so great road shot from 2009 of the Painted Desert along SR89, Arizona.
Sherry and David chose #2750, for the “sustained winds today of 27 mph with gusts of over 50.” I’m really not keen on sustained high wind so good thing I also don’t want am not able to run up to 68-75 mph like a cheetah. No wonder the few times I saw them on safari in South Africa (here at Mountain Zebra National Park) the photos are blurry.
Sallie and Bill chose #6418. They are nature lovers, spending time with birds and flowers. They also travel so may know one of the many varieties of Protea I saw in South Africa. This Forest White Sugarbush (Protea) with closed flower buds caused Joan and I to pull off the road along Grootriver Pass in Nature’s Valley.
Donna chose #997. These handsome teenagers were still hanging out with their mother and siblings for my first lion sighting in Kruger National Park, South Africa. Towards the end of the day a pride often gathers on the sun-warmed pavement for the night.
Yogi and random dot org chose #5573. He likes to vacation on the beach with family so might consider the Indian Ocean in South Africa. This morning view was within walking distance of my camp at Scottburgh Caravan Park.
Jeff chose #865, “the number of days NASA had to delay the Mars InSight launch…now scheduled for a May 5th launch from Vendenberg.” Well this not a satellite view, which I highly recommend seeing from space, of the Colorado River carving through rock and headed to Grand Canyon. This view from an overlook near Page Arizona in 2009.
My choice this week, a sunset over the Weaver Mountains from a nearby empty lot in Yarnell.
Thank you for playing along with Foto Friday Fun which allows me to share these photographs and memories. Please join in next week by leaving a number between 1 and 9999 in your comment below.
Do you have a favorite this week?
My apologies if you are unable to leave a comment. I have done everything I know how to solve the problem short of leaving comments open to anonymous which I won’t do because of spam problems. I am open to suggestions. Please know I appreciate everyone who lands here and stays long enough to read. I really do like comments and try to respond to them all. Hi Gaelyn, Hope you receive this comment. Just to say I love the photo of the Lions sitting on the warm road. But of course my favourite this week is Colorado River carving through the rock heading to Grand Canyon. Hope you are keeping well. no 798 for next weeks Foto Friday. Thanks. Have a great weekend.
Thank you. You do seem to like the Grand Canyon pics best. #798 for next week.
Love the photo of you in the high chair. Where’s my food?? 😊 We had that same knotty pine wainscoting in our dinette area.
Let’s go with 283 next week, Gaelyn.
Thanks. Guess that wainscoting was from the times. #283 for next week.
I have too many favorites to list this week.
Next week: #1007
OK, well I think that’s a good thing. So #1007 for next week.
Great photos as usual. I like your pic the best.
Since I turned 63 earlier this month, I am going with 6363 for next week.
Thanks Yogi. Hope you’re still celebrating. #6363 for you.
How in the world to choose a favorite from such variety. I must say that your last shot from Yarnell has been a real hit for me, both here and on Facebook. But, the one you chose for me really moved my heart. Ok, I’ll play again. How about 7320 the amount I am saving for my trip to Italy.
Thanks Sue. Yarnell’s boulders are quite photogenic. #7320 for you. Could do South Africa for cheaper. 😉
You have changed the layout below and it looks like this comment may now go through, hope so anyway 🙂
Love every one of these photos, from you in the pool, to the RSA photos and the USA shots. 2704 for next week.
Warm hugs and thoughts are with you Diane and Nigel
Don’t know what changed but glad the comment worked. Thanks. #2704 for next week.
Forgot to add in my excitement of being able to post – that flower maybe Anisodontea julii.
Thanks Diane. I thought you might come through.
It’s fascinating to see what comes up each week. I’d like number 1548 for next week. It’s just a number out of the hat.
I do enjoy sharing the memories. #1548 for you next week. Thanks for playing along.
Total crazy for my cheetah. I can’t even imagine seeing such a wonderful cat or those gorgeous lions for that matter. Also crazy for the little you. Such cute pictures. Not sure what happened to pictures of my childhood. Glad you have yours. The morning view of the Indian Ocean looks nearly identical to the view I took some shots of this morning on the Atlantic. Fabulous picture of the Colorado and your closing shot is as beautiful as a painting. Great color and composition. What a backyard you have. I’ll take 9999 for absolutely no reason at all.
Just amplify how you feel on the Disney safari and enjoy them while they’re still around. I’m glad for the photos from my earliest years because many decades worth were lost to flood. Sure glad you are back on the beach watching sunrises, a healthy place for you. #9999 for next week.
Love all the photos as always. Lions are beautiful creatures. Was so sorry to read of Bertas condition. You are a great friend. I will keep you both in my prayers.
I will pick # 5353 for nxt week as its hubbys birthday.
Hugs
Rosemary
Thank you Rosemary, all good thoughts and prayers are appreciated for Berta. #5353 Happy Birthday to hubby.
That protea would have definitely been a picture stop for me!… and BTW it is an unfamiliar plant.
Haunting sunset with that bare tree — I really like that picture! And never tire of the lions.
The opened protea flowers are about 5 inches across which is truly a show/car stopper. #3893 for you next week.
Ohsorry,,,, 3893? The last 4 digits of a phone number I actually just had to punch in .
Funny how cats, no matter how big and fuzzy, seek out the warmest spot around to nap. I’d like 271 next week, the distance from home to see the first west coast inter-planetary launch. Fingers crossed the InSight is launched in the first launch window.
I should be a cat, or return as a cat. Lazy in the sun. Hope the flight launches as planned in #271 for you.
We stopped in and walk around the Elden Pueblo while in Flagstaff last year! I don’t think most people even know it is there. Love those lions and the cheetah!! We really like Valley of Fire and actually were headed there on the motorcycle to enjoy the views and do the White Dome hike but dark clouds and drizzle ahead turned us around. We’ll get there soon:)
#2704
Agree not many seem to visit Elden Pueblo. Valley of Fire is such a nice option for you now, especially a cycle ride away but maybe not in the rian.
Augh… I forgot again. Catch me up with #720, please.
Got you for #720.
