This week’s Foto Friday Fun features images chosen by ten readers including several animals seen in South Africa.
Diane and Nigel chose #604. I am always amazed that we often have the same plants in Arizona as they do in France. Is Pyrocanthus on that list?
Sherry and David chose #4068. This sweet mama staring away from the bright morning sun and towards a couple of cubs hiding in the tall grasses in Kruger National Park, South Africa during my last visit in 2014.
Rita chose #1077. I grew up with Mom using 20 mule-team borax for washing laundry long before visiting the Death Valley National Park Harmony Borax site where the sodium borate was once mined and refined.
Jeff chose #6500, “the amount I paid for the RV smog check.” This might look a little smoggy but it’s just limited light before sunset over the Indian Ocean at Tsitsikamma National Park, South Africa.
Pam and John chose #8890. Almost looks like the coral colored sands in southern Utah after some rain but is the Kgalagadi, meaning place of thirst, along the South African and Namibian border. And there had been rain.
Sallie and Bill chose #917. The giraffe is a most unusual animal with long legs, neck and tongue. This male was seen in Kruger National Park, South Africa during my first visit in March 2010.
Jodee and Bill chose #5460. This shot, sunrise over the Indian Ocean from the campground’s beach in Scottburgh South Africa during February 2014.
Yogi and Random dot org chose #4853. A pair of Klipspringers seen in Kruger National Park, South Africa just a few days before the previous photo.
Patti and Abi chose #690. OK, this unusual animal is not from South Africa. This Abert squirrel was playing on the pines in the KOA campground in Flagstaff, Arizona.
Donna chose #977. My first sighting of lions in Kruger National Park March of 2010.
My choice of the waning moon setting over the Weaver Mountains, my current view in Yarnell, Arizona.
Thank you for playing along with Foto Friday Fun which allows me to share these photographs and memories. Please join in next week by leaving a number between 1 and 9999 in your comment below.
As always, your photo’s are stunning Gaelyn. My favourite is the one of the Lions in Krugar, they are magnificent and what a thrill for you to see them so close-up. No 531 for next weeks Photo Friday please. Enjoy your weekend.
P S Forgot to say the Pyrocanthus is one of my favourite plants. One of them also has red berries which the birds love in the winter. I have one growing in a wall here in Crete.
Thanks Rita. Somehow I deleted your comment. The birds like these berries too. Have you down for #531.
So many great photos this week. Love my lioness she looks so regal standing there. Of course giraffes are one of my favorite animals. Such a great picture showing how really tall they are. Can’t believe it’s been 4 years since your last trip to Africa. Hope you can return soon. I’d like number 463 for next week please.
Thanks Sherry. How I long to return to South Africa. As I’ve said for a couple years, maybe next winter. #463 for you next week.
Wonderful photos as always. I loved the first lions, so I will chose 978 and see what happens. I love how you manage to integrate people’s requests into the photo, makes me smile. Also, how the heck did it get to be Friday already!!??
Thanks Sue. Nice to know readers well enough to incorporate photos to people. Weeks are flying by. #978 for you next week.
Again all great pictures, but l just like the coloring and framing of Jodee and Bill’s ocean beach scene. Next week I’d like 1824 the Mexican Peso exchange rate I got yesterday.
Thanks Jeff. #1824 for you. Nice exchange rate.
Love all the wildlife! There are never too many animal photos for me. How cool to see that lion family in the middle of the road! A new animal, the Klipspringers (maybe you’ve mentioned them before), to me. Very cute:) You have me seriously thinking we need to take a trip to South Africa to see these beautiful creatures.
#7630
I so love seeing South Africa pop up for this fun. Didn’t see many Klipspringers and thus not many pics. Let me know when you want to go, I know a great guide and would also be happy to return. #7630 for you.
I always enjoy your Friday photos.
It was such fun to visit you. I wish I had stopped to make some photos of those HUGE boulders in Yarnell.
Thanks Gayle. I too enjoyed our visit. There really are some cool boulders around here. Maybe next year. Assume you are on the way north.
Unable to comment on computer it will not let me fill in name etc. Now on phone! Love the photos. The pyrocanthus is a close relation to cotoneaster of which we have 2 in our garden. 1304 for next week please. Have a good weekend. Diane and Nigel
Thanks Diane for being so persistent. Wish I knew the answer to this intermittent comment problem. I know the cotoneaster but not from around here. #1304 for you.
Definitely loved the lions and the giraffe. And the Indian Ocean sunrise.
Next week: #987
So amazing to have seen those animals up close. #987 for you.
Squirrels are crazy funny to watch as they chase each other. The other day I was watching a gray squirrel hanging upside down on a tree and the wind was blowing super hard and that little squirrel just hung on and blew with the wind. He was probably think, “Wheee!”
We’ve been to the Borax area in Death Valley. It’s an interesting site, but then so is most of Death Valley.
Next week #700
I love watching the antics of squirrels, and all other wildlife as well. #700 for you.
The giraffe and the lions in the road are my favorite this week.
Next week’s number is 3584
Hard to say nay to South African wildlife. How I long to return. #3584 for you.
Yes Pyracantha is common in France and, as a child, we used its akenes for its itching powder…
Thanks for sharing that. I think it’s cool to see same or similar plants growing around the world. Now I wonder if it’s native here.
More wonderful critters from both continents! The giraffe is really special.
I love my beach pic, can’t wait to spend a few days along the coast in June!
7490 for next week please.
I am longing for some South African wildlife. And a beach fix would be nice too. #7490 for you.
Great photos as always. Do you have any plans to travel to Africa in the near future?
Thanks Steve. I’m always thinking of a return to Southern Africa. Maybe next winter. Would be tough with three dogs.
I LOVE our giraffe!!! Feel like I hit the jackpot with the number I chose last week — just wonderful. That Indian Ocean beach is beautiful too — that would be my second choice or maybe your moon shot right there in Yarnell…. you and your camera find beauty everywhere and I love it all.
1404 for next week. No special reason, just the first # I laid eyes on just now. Part of a random restaurant address I wrote down to enter it in our car’s GPS.
What’s not to love about wildlife. #1404 for you.
