This week’s Foto Friday Fun features images chosen by 12 readers including quite a few shots from first time visits to some beautiful places.
Diane and Nigel chose #903 from my first visit to the Coral Pink Sand Dunes in southern Utah near Kanab, Utah in 2009 and it was raining.
Donna chose #947. Also a first visit, this time to the Toadstools also in southern Utah, Grand Staircase Escalante National Monument in 2009. When I see survey markers I just have to take a photo. Don’t ask me why.
Jeff chose #3360, “the number of minutes over a 6 week period the doctor said to ice the minor tear in the meniscus.” No problem with feet or walking through this fenced trail to a bird hide in Hluhluwe iMfolozi National Park. One of the few places you can get out of your vehicle while on self-drive safari. Although it was the third and most recent visit to South Africa this was the first, and only, visit to this park.
Rita chose #6547. A sunset at Tsitsikamma National Park South Africa.
Debi chose #1014. After four days floating the Colorado River in Grand Canyon the National Park Service flew another Ranger and me across the canyon from south to north. Wow, what views, even this one just before landing at Kanab, Utah airport. Both of these adventures were firsts.
Al chose #1947. My first visit to White Pocket in the Vermilion Cliffs National Monument. This isn’t an easy place to drive to over rough rock and soft sand so was glad someone else did the driving.
Sue chose #1861, “for our room here on the Riviera Maya.” I haven’t been to Mexico in decades but do sometimes get to enjoy the North Rim Lodge veranda out of uniform and eating ice cream while taking in the view.
Sherry and David chose 3366. Impalas are the most common seen antelope on safari in South Africa. These seen at Hluhluwe iMfolozi where the bird hide is from the photo above.
Patti and Abi chose #660. Just had to chuckle when I saw this in the visitor center at the Cape of Good Hope during my first visit to South Africa in 2010.
Pam and John chose #390. Uncle Sam always makes an appearance at the North Rim’s 4th of July water parade at the Grand Canyon.
Yogi chose #1390, one of three photos in a panorama. One of my favorite views over Grand Canyon from the Lodge during an August monsoon.
Sallie and Bill chose #648. Buckskin Gulch slot canyon is otherworldly. What else can I say? You really need to go there.
My choice from a recent road trip where I stopped at the Gillespie Dam on the way to Casa Grande National Monument to visit friends.
Thank you for playing along with Foto Friday Fun which allows me to share these photographs and memories. Please join in next week by leaving a number between 1 and 9999 in your comment below.
Do you have a favorite this week?
Good morning Gaelyn ,well I am not sure if its morning there but its 9-30 here in Crete. Love the photo of Buckskin Gulch which is my favourite this week. May I have number 6999 for next weeks Foto Friday. Enjoy your weekend.
Seven hours later, it’s morning in AZ. Slot canyon’s are most surely awesome places. Have you down for #6999.
Love the shot of the slot canyon, if I had not seen a slot canyon for myself I would never have known how beautiful they are. The desert shot with the rain drops is interesting, glad you took that photo, I don’t think it would have thought of it. As always love the canyon shots, and especially of you taking a hard earned rest. 1603 for next week please. Hope the you have a fun weekend. Diane and Nigel
I used to take pics of “everything” but not as much now. Glad you like the slot. You get #1603 next week.
Wow….too many great ones to select from, Gaelyn! If I had to choose, I’d take the ice cream photo.
I’ll take #11 this week, as that’s how many days it is until we cure our hitch-itch. 😊
Good choice. One can never go wrong with ice cream. I’m sure it will feel good to be on the road. #11 for you.
Cracked me up, Gaelyn, my photo that I chose while relaxing in a deck chair came up with a photo of you relaxing in a deck chair, of sorts. Different views, for sure, but still cool. I loved the slot canyon too, some of my favorite photos are of Antelope Canyon, upper and lower both different. Never made it to Buckskin, but maybe someday. I’ll skip a number this week, I don’t want to be greedy
No such thing as coincidence. 😉 I haven’t been in Antelope Canyon in a while because it’s just too crowded which Buckskin is not.
What a great week of photos! I was planning to take our friends to White Pocket and then for us to hike some of Buckskin Gulch while staying in Wahweap Campground. But the closing on the house has us returning to Boulder City and canceling our week there. Oh, well, next time.
Next time #3061
Bummer about missing White Pocket and Buckskin but they’re aren’t going anywhere. #3061 for you.
Got stuck without good internet last week so glad to get caught up with this great group of photos! Love the rain drops on the colorful dunes. Your ice cream spot brings back memories of our fun visit to see you right there!
9511 for next week please.
I had signal problems out on the BLM of Q also. #9511 for you.
Our Impala shot is cool. An animal I doubt I’ll see in the wind. So thanks. I do the survey marker picture too and also have no idea why. Gorgeous sunset and that in air shot is spectacular. Love the shot of you relaxing with your feet up. Really great shots this Friday Gaelyn and I think my favorite is Buckskin Gulch. Wow! You are right I really need to go there. I’d like 4045 for next week please.
Thanks. I found a website for survey markers but it didn’t really tell me anything. Buckskin needs to be on your list. Have you down for #4045.
I love the Buckskin Gulch photo especially. One day maybe we can have ice cream on the veranda overlooking the Canyon!!
My number next week is 9978
I would love to share ice cream on the veranda with you and family. #9978 for next week.
Oh my … slot canyon, White Pocket, Grand Canyon … I have a lot of favorites this week! Next week I’d like 1316, Usery’s Ranger B mentioned that 13 of the 16 North America’s venomous snakes are found in Arizona. Stay on the trail!
Favorites of minetoo. #1316 for you next week while I watch out for venomous snakes.
I don’t know what happened – or how long it will last – but look who was able to post a comment this week! 🙂
I’m so excited to be able to post a comment I didn’t even focus on the photos. Ha! Ha! For next week: #670
Go figure. #670 it is.
Enjoyed the pictures.
Next week: #957
Thanks Donna. #957 for you.
Buckskin Gulch Slot Canyon needs to move to the top of my travel wish list! “Choosing” that picture has to be an omen. (It is beautiful — I would love to visit.) It was kind of a back and forth between continents here this week — but everywhere you go you take wonderful pictures! I am always in utter awe. 323 for next Friday’s date?
Thanks Sallie. Every slot canyon I’ve seen is awesome. #323 for you.
