This week’s Foto Friday Fun features images chosen by nine readers including Grand Canyon, the Colorado Plateau, and me as a bride.
Rita chose #7999. I’ve been involved with the Air program at the North Rim for many seasons and met some really fine artists. Thankfully some of them like Stewart live near enough to visit occasionally. Stewart is not just a jeweler, his inspiration comes from nature which he photographs and incorporates with the finished jewelry.
Diane and Nigel chose #203, one in a two image panorama. From my first rim to rim hike across Grand Canyon in 2008 this view down the Bright Angel Trail as I stopped frequently to catch my breath. Wasn’t sure I wanted to ever do this challenging hike again, but I did and it got a little easier every time.
Sue chose #1980, “the year St Helens blew, and the day I got married in Moscow Idaho, in the dark at 2pm during the ash fall.” Funny thing is I paid no attention to that eruption in 1980 while planning my wedding in Illinois. Then while going to college at WWU 12 years later I began my career as a Park Ranger at Mount St Helens.
Yogi chose #870. The Colorado River seems to disappear through rock it’s carved over eons of time. This downriver view is near Page, Arizona where the upriver view is of the Glen Canyon Dam.
Sherry and David chose #746, a Wolf spider seen in the little house I lived in Yarnell back in 2009. Policy was photograph, capture and release if possible.
Pam and John chose #3020. They recently visited Fonts Point in Anza-Borrego Desert State Park, California. I only got here because Lynda and Howard drove the wash there which my rig wouldn’t have done. These craggy badlands were spectacular at last light and sunset.
Jeff chose #363, “the distance to Sloan Park the spring home of the Cubs, and the only Cactus League park left on my ‘bucket list’”. Back in 2008, three days after the opening of the North Rim and my first season at Grand Canyon part of spring training still included exploring and learning about the diverse environments. So I stopped to walk around Greenland Lake which is actually a sinkhole but called a lake around this dry and arid landscape. Some years it has to water at all.
Donna chose #937, one of five photos in a panorama. This dinosaur mural is displayed in the tiny but informative Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monument visitor center in Bigwater, Utah. Sadly this national monument may be reduced in size with untold fossils destroyed in the name of “resource extraction”. Like we need fossil fuels more than fossils?
Sallie and Bill chose #3917, “last of our zip code here.” Toward the last of the day’s light a neighbor’s dog barking set this coyote running off into the Anza-Borrego desert. They sure blend in well with the landscape. Do you see it?
Because I haven’t been taking many photos lately the choice for my favorite came down to a recent sunset in Yarnell.
Thank you for playing along with Foto Friday Fun which allows me to share these photographs and memories. Please join in next week by leaving a number between 1 and 9999 in your comment below.
Do you have a favorite this week?
Spectacular set of photos, you look amazing as a bride. Love the jewellery as well. No particular favourite other than the wolf spider which makes me shudder. Love the canyon and the Colorado river, so glad I actually got to see some of this in real life. 903 for next week please.
Take care and have a good weekend Diane and Nigel.
Thanks Diane. 903 for next week.
My favorites this week are Fonts Point, Colorado River, Angel Trail, and one lovely bride.
Next week: #947
947 for next week.
It’s hard to compete with the bride, but I tossed my dad’s ashes off Font’s Point. Next week #3360 – the number of minutes over a 6 week period the doctor said to ice the minor tear in the meniscus. (4 times daily x 20 minutes each x 6 weeks) Bet it was those darn shoes I wore to the breakfast!
Should definitely break in new shoes slowly. 3360 for next week.
Interesting I had to use the keyboard to navigate the comments box, rather than the mouse …. It called me ARRAY ???
I saw and wondered about your unusual new name.
As always !! Fantastic photo’s Gaelyn. Of course all those of Grand Canyon are my favorites Super photo of you as a bride and I love the dress. No 6547 for next weeks Photo Friday please.
Have a great weekend.
Thanks. 6547 for next week.
So many truly picturesque photos this time, but I laughed out loud at my 1980 photo. I, too, loved Gunne Sax dresses back then. Ok. I’ll keep playing till you tell me to stop. 1861 for our room here on the Riviera Maya.
I love serendipity. 1861 for you. Enjoy!
What wonderful pictures of the sunset in Yarnell and of you as a bride. You just look so lovely in such a beautiful dress. Love your spider policy. It’s mine too and Wolf spiders are fantastic. A fantastic picture of the Colorado on such a glorious day and of the Bright Angel trail which we hiked part way down and back with a promise to come back and do a rim to rim as soon as we could get a reservation. It makes me sad that illness has kept us from that goal. Great pictures Gaelyn. I can’t choose just one. I’ll try 3366 for next week please.
Thanks Sherry. 3366 for next week.
Oh, how we love Fonts Point!! This year we found a way into the badlands below on a Jeep road. It is amazing from down there. So beautiful!!
#3090
I remember reading about that jeep trip with envy. 3090 for you.
Another great post. I do capture and release with almost everything including moths and such and especially spiders. I feel bad for all the snakes I’ve killed over the years. They were just being snakes.
My number for next week is 1390, and believe it or not, I was thinking the number when I hit enter on Random dot org.
Sometimes critters get killed inside the house. 1390 it is.
I deeply admire your courage in continuing to do that difficult (and stunningly beautiful) hike. You were a beautiful bride! I did see ‘my’ coyote, but only when I embiggened the picture… they do blend (among all their other many survival coping mechanisms)…..Beautiful landscapes, so different from where we are now. I’m very late visiting and as usual have no idea for a good number. So I did Yogi’s thing and got 648. ( Surprisingly, unlike him, I was not thinking it — or anything — when I hit enter ;>)
Interesting life path Gaelyn, I think that you are never bored. Thanks for sharing with us.
Thanks. You are right. Never bored.
