This week’s Foto Friday Fun includes images chosen by 11 readers featuring the diversity of South Africa and some seasonal changes seen on the Kaibab Plateau.
Rita chose #7576. Not the best photo I’ve ever taken but who cares, it’s elephants. I never tire of elephants. And that’s why Addo Elephant National Park is one of my South African (SANParks) favorites. Taken during my third visit, 2014.
Diane and Nigel chose #1602. During my first visit to South African in 2010, Joan and I were on our way to the Drakensburg Mountains for a little backpacking trip and hoped the low clouds would disappear. Which they did, on and off. Another photo below will prove that.
Yogi chose #2550. No bad views of Grand Canyon, is what I tell visitors when they ask for the “best” view.
Pam and John chose #2061. Walking back to camp after sunset at the Tuweep overlook it was important to watch the ground for possible rattlesnakes but instead this darkling beetle crossed the trail.
Sue chose #4491. West Coast National Park in South Africa offered many birding opportunities around the bay and lagoons plus the Atlantic Ocean.
Sherry and David chose #9384. The golden Aspen and evergreens contrast in a perfect fall on the forest found around the North Rim at Grand Canyon.
Jeff chose #1960, “the year the Lake Miramar dam was completed.” I’m not surprised there are several dam-created reservoirs below the Drakensburg Mountains where I drank from waterfalls while hiking. A waterfall can be seen in this shot of Monks Cowl towering above camp.
Jodee and Bill chose #6590. Caught this Cormorant swimming in the Indian Ocean at yet another one of my favorite SANParks, Tsitsikamma National Park.
Jim and Diana chose #1106. This, is spring on the Kaibab National Forest adjacent to the North Rim Grand Canyon. Taken 4-30-10, before the North Rim was open for the season.
Donna chose #917. September 2011 I boated on Lake Powell, the first and by choice the last time.
Sallie and Bill chose #12. Being that Crater Lake National Park is in one of their home states of Oregon I’m guessing they’ve seen this view into Grotto Cove. My first visit to the park in 2002 was during nearby fires so I had a smoky view.
My choice from a morning last week when it appeared these, mostly, house finches seemed to be greeting the morning light. I took the usual bracketed shots through the window and then processed them two different ways.
Thank you for playing along with Foto Friday Fun which allows me to share these photographs and memories. Please join in next week by leaving a number between 1 and 9999 in your comment below.
Do you have a favorite this week?
We love the Drakensberg, we almost got completely lost there one day when out walking, we were hoping that the hotel would spot that we were missing, but we managed to find our way back eventually just before dinner!! Love all the South African photos naturally, but the other photos are also very interesting. That snow looks mighty cold to us!!!! 2303 for next week please. Take care and enjoy your weekend, Diane and Nigel.
The snow today was mighty cold as well. Not my cup of tea. I could definitely spend more time in the Drakensberg although getting lost would not be so fun.
Three times! Somehow it never clicked for me that you have been to South Africa 3 times. Amazing. I love the elephants, but those aspens really caught my eye as well, the color is amazing. How did you manage three trips to South Africa? Wow. priorities, I guess. I had kids, although it wasn’t necessarily a priority, I was just young and didn’t know there were other options. Wouldn’t go back and change it, but geez…I never managed South Africa. LOLOL Oh….and for the birthday of one of those kids, how about 1964.
After the first visit to South Africa in 2010 I was hooked. I consider retiring there. Although the flight isn’t cheap it’s an affordable place to travel with USD. I’m saving to return. Want to go? #1964 for you.
Well I love Elephants, how lucky you were able to photo so many. I would be thrilled. The Drakensburg Mountains are my favourite this week Gaelyn and for next weeks photo Friday Number 699 please. Have a great week end.
I could watch elephants for days, weeks, months… and would dearly love to spend more time in the Drakensburgs. Have you down for #699.
Perhaps there are no bad pictures of the Grand Canyon!, but I like my waterfall 🙂
Next week I’d like next Wednesday 228, the date will be my first High Tide Breakfast at the Marine Room in La Jolla. I had to buy shoes for this!
Didn’t notice any bad views of the Drakensburgs either. OK, #228 and I hope to see pics of both the breakfast and the shoes. 😉
Especially liked the elephants and the West Coast National Park in South Africa.
Next week: #927
I love to watch elephants. You get #927 next week.
Those elephants are just beautiful. How special to see them in the wild:) Any photo with water and rocks is special.
#9199
Elephants are the most amazing animals. #9199 for you.
I love the aspen trees and the elephant. Next week is 8320
Thanks. Those two seem to be the most popular. #8320 for you.
Boy are you picky. I think that elephant photo is fantastic! All sizes from all angles. Puffy white clouds, blue skies, water, green trees/fields(?) in the background. What more could you want ? Definitely a fabulous canyon view. Look at those colors! What an environment for the cormorant. The two final pictures are very interesting. The colorless one seems like what I always see when looking up at birds. Love that you could get the color in the second picture. I’ll try 5746 for next week please.
I am picky, yet FFF is all about taking what the number brings instead the best ofs. I rarely get good bird shots like you do so was happy with this window shot. Have you down for #5746. Hope you’re both doing well.
Wonderful to start off with the elephant!! Love my Cormorant and his beautiful swimming spot – lucky bird 🙂 Several of these look like paintings, especially the West Coast NP. So beautiful!!
#6001 for next week please
Can’t miss with elephants. Have you down for #6001.
Crater Lake was still a beautiful blue even through haze! Yup, we sure have seen that view a few times, but I don’t have much in the way of good pictures, so thank you. Adore the elephants. For a minute I thought it said that was a ‘darling’ beetle. I’m not scared of bugs at all, but I thought that was going a little too far ))…. of course then I re-read your words and learned something new. Thanks!
All my Crater Lake photos are old which means I’m overdue for a PNW adventure. Seems there are a lot of different “darkling” beetles. How fun that you went and looked it up.
I’m always writing down photo numbers I want to return to. #3543 for you. BTW, I let the computer count your words. 😉
I got so excited about looking up the ‘darling’ beetle that I forgot to leave a # for next time. I hate to make you count words. Lets go 3543 — that actually is the number on a picture of mine I wanted to edit — I wrote the number down so I could find it again because I had to leave the computer.
