This week’s Foto Friday Fun includes images chosen by 11 readers featuring a few panoramas, South Africa, and a blast from my kindergarten past.
Rita chose #3576, one of four shots in a panorama. Although the bay formed by the mouth of Bushman’s River looks calm the wind blew sand hard enough to defoliate so didn’t hang out long here on the Indian Ocean beach in South Africa.
Diane and Nigel chose #902. A close up of the keystone roof arch stained with soot inside the Charcoal Kilns at Death Valley National Park. Built in 1879 they are a crude comparison of some of the much older stone work they share from France where they live.
Donna chose #907 from the same place as above.
Vicky chose #1977, one of four images in a panorama. This was my morning view above camp after a day of hiking into the Drakensburg Mountains in South Africa.
Jeff chose #4320, “the number of seconds Norton support took remote control of my laptop.” That just sounds plum crazy which is what you could become watching the diversity of birds at the West Coast National Park in Langebaan, South Africa. Plus you can quench your thirst at the Gelbek restaurant and bar instead of just peaking in the window like I did.
Rebecca chose #2189. A view she’s seen downstream of the Colorado River from Tuweep overlook, Grand Canyon. This was taken during my first visit 9-27-10. I’d sure like to go back. (Hint hint.)
Sallie and Bill chose #86, the number of words she counted in last week’s comment. I was probably just learning to count when this kindergarten class photo was taken in 1960 at Madison School in Illinois. Can you pick me out of the crowd?
Philip chose #2722, “the last four digits of my Army Serial No.” It took an army of men to build the Swartberg Pass road where four shots where taken for this panorama in South Africa in 2013 when I drove many mountain passes.
Pam and John chose #9020. A view of the Paria Canyon-Vermilion Cliffs Wilderness on the hike to The Wave. If they haven’t hiked this, I’m sure it’s on their list.
Yogi chose #9787. As a fellow photographer he knows how difficult it is to capture animals on the move. So this shot is a little fuzzy, but trust me, there’s a leopard. Taken in March 2014 at Pilanesberg Game Reserve, South Africa.
Sherry and David chose #8112. A favorite monsoon scene of mine watching storms move across Grand Canyon. This shot taken 8-9-15.
My choice from camp just south of Parker last week in a not terribly scenic area, yet as the sun set I liked the glow on the plants along a ridge line.
Thank you for playing along with Foto Friday Fun which allows me to share these photographs and memories. Please join in next week by leaving a number between 1 and 9999 in your comment below.
Do you have a favorite this week?
(BTW, leopard is almost exactly in the middle.)
I do have a favourite this week although I love all these photo’s. I cannot spot you Gaelyn on the school photo. Favourite is of the Colorado River from Tuweep overlook Grand Canyon. Number for next weeks photo Friday is 7576. Have a great week end.
Tuweep offers the most amazing and iconic view of Grand Canyon just requires a lot of work to get there. Have you down for #7576 for next week.
What a great selection. Love the kilns, seems a pity they were only used for 3 years. The leopard, I think I can see a couple of spots at the bottom of the bush 🙂 The storm across the canyon is magic. I am pretty sure I can spot you in the photo but I am not letting on in case I put my foot in it LOL.
1602 for next week please. Take care Diane and Nigel
Thanks. You found the leopard. And probably me also. #1602 for next week. Be well.
I love the storm across the canyon and the class photos especially. I like looking at everybody’s class photos from back when they did the composite of everybody’s.
My number for next week is 2550.
I think a photography class is beneficial and would like to take one but it’s just not convenient. #2550 for you.
The Wave will always be on my list, but getting there may never happen with how hard it is to get a pass. I’m looking forward to getting back to Utah.
#2061
I probably wouldn’t have gotten to the Wave if not for Bill being a volunteer. You get #2061.
So much fun to look at the photos now from the home base of my real desk. Geez. So I’ll pick 4491, for whatever reason. And I love the kindergarten photo, and the kilns. Mo and I visited the kilns a few years back. But your Africa photos really make me long for time in South Africa. Sigh, probably not something that will happen.
Welcome home. All the photos from South Africa make me long to return. Someday. #4491 for next week.
I like the shots of the charcoal kilns and the peek in the window. I love my monsoon shot and think I saw the Leopard but I’m not sure which one of those little darlings is you. I’d like to try 9384 for next week please.
Thanks. That monsoon shot is my favorite this week. You get #9384 next week.
Like The Wave, Toroweep is on the bucket list, but I have a better chance of getting there. For next week I’d like 1960 the year the Lake Miramar dam was completed.
Get a permit to camp at Toroweap and go in the spring or fall. Much easier than the Wave permit. Have you down for #1960.
Well, didn’t I just score a great location? I’m always game to go back to Tuweep. Slowly. Thanks for letting me play!
Take your truck and my tent. You are always welcome to leave a number.
Love the kilns and hoping to see them when we visit Death Valley this spring. So much is closed due to the floods a few years ago 🙁 Beautiful shot of the monsoons. We’ve been enjoying the last three days of rain in the desert! Great catch of the golden shrubs lit along the ridge.
oops – #6590 for next week please
Many areas are reopening after the flood damage. Glad to see the recent rain without flooding. Have you down for #6590.
Ok, I’m going to narrow your kindergarten pic down to the top two rows. :). How did I do?
Let’s take 1106 this week.
You did good. Top row, second pic. Have you down for #1106.
Once again, I loved them all. I had your kindergarten pic narrowed down to 3, and yours was in there.
Next week: #917
Thanks. Fun old photos. You get #917 this week.
OK — I see the leopard, but I don’t know which sweet little girl is you. Oh oops, I just see your answer above — that’s just what I would have guessed (LOL)….. those old school photos were such fun. I made scrapbooks for each of my four kids right after I retired and all of them had at least five or six of those composite photos….. love all the beautiful scenery — all your colors are so pretty today .. and I loved the charcoal kilns and the reminder of our trip to Death Valley (too long ago. ) I liked seeing the ‘old’ picture I got this time, so I will take #12 for the place your picture was (assuming low numbers are older pictures? I guess I’ll find out this week maybe).
You are good! I’m betting #12 will be and oldy.
