Sunrise, sunset. Sunrise, sunset. Swiftly go the days, weeks, months… And I’m practicing nepholography even though I am not a nephologist.
sunset West over Weaver Mountains 12-12-17
OK, so it’s mostly sunsets I see. I’m still working on that getting up early thing. Honestly, my ideal sleeping time is 11pm to 7am, followed by a slow two hour wake-up over coffee and the computer. Have to see what’s happening in the world.
I’ve been sitting around more than usual with plenty of time on my hands. Just haven’t felt motivated to get out much. I usually go to town with Berta once a week, could be Wickenburg or Prescott. My needs are simple.
Sunrise, sunset. That’s about all I’ve been photographing lately. Not every day is awesome. Takes clouds to really make it good.
sunset West with contrails 1-2-18
If you’ve followed me very long you’ve seen lots of photos of sunsets over the Weaver Mountains from ten winters in Yarnell, Arizona. I never tire of this western view, the overall shape of the ridge-line and the rock figures that adorn it.
Yet I also like the burnt twisted trees and giant boulders.
Sunrise, sunset. Same scene different picture, no two alike. Add a bit of moon.
I frequently spend the entire day in the camper, on the computer, and enjoying my marvelous view. Spend way too much time on Facebook. Not enough time reading and keeping caught up on blogs with no excuse. Most of the rest of the time is labeling photos. I’m so anal about that.
I gained weight. Probably too much sitting. From Berta who has struggled with weight for years, I get no sympathy. But it’s a new concept for me. If I still owned them, I could have been wearing clothes from high school, almost 50 years ago. And although I know I’m not over weight, it’s a whole pant size, from 6 to 8, my max 140 pounds. I’m only 5’5”, and shrinking. I had to buy new pants.
Several people told me to expect weight gain after I quit smoking in June. Not sure why it’s taken six months to catch up to me. Eating habits didn’t change so I’m blaming this on lack of exercise. And I’m sticking to that story. If you see me this winter, please encourage me to get out and walk and please come along.
Sunrise, sunset. I love to watch the cloudy changing sky. It’s like a dance and I don’t know the steps. Never know what to expect which is part of the magic. Brings the nepholographer (person who photographs clouds) out in me.
But not very far out. All these shots were taken within sight of my camper. Sometimes I jump in and out taking some shots in between. It is chilly for the best sunrise and sunset photos so I am content not to have to go far from the warmth of my tiny rolling home.
I’m just rambling on. But maybe that’s because I haven’t been out much. Sometimes I’m an introverted hermit and other times my extrovert won’t shut up. Really, just ask anybody who’s met me.
But I really am beginning to feel like a slug and it just might be time to ramble on. It does seem that plans made during the last couple of months have mostly gone astray. So I’m almost afraid to say… I’m going to Quartzsite this week.
Such wonderful sunsets Gaelyn what a gorgeous view to wake up to. Don’t worry about the weight you will lose it again when you are traveling and walking about, so just enjoy your life.
Thanks Rita. The weight gain absolutely caught me by surprise. I roll Thursday.
Beautiful photos and I rarely see sunrises. Not only do I wake up usually too late. but I have to walk down the road to see them properly as our neighbour’s large barn is in the way ! If I could take the from the house it would be fairly simple.
Delighted to hear that you have stopped smoking. I did not gain weight when I stopped many, many, years ago but I was busy in those days and yes had lots of exercise. So start walking 🙂
Take care Diane
Thanks Diane. Sunrises are definitely best caught right outside the door.
Gorgeous photos of gorgeous skies. Thank you. And thank you for using big words every couple of weeks that make me go look them up and learn something new. 🙂
Thanks Ann. It is fun to learn new words.
Sure am glad that you linked the study of clouds word! I had no clue. Also “the overall shape of the ridgeline” struck a sweet spot for me. That is something I love about knowing a landscape well, recognizing that ridgeline. Something funny, I grew up in the San Gabriel Valley, and the ridgeline of those mountains, with Mt Wilson on the left and Mt Baldy on the right is forever etched into my subconscious, as the the view of Mt Rathdrum from the Rathdrum Prairie between Spokane and Coeur D Alene where I lived for 30 plus years. And, wow, we shoot with the same camera much of the time….guess I should spend some time like you have working on my photography. Such wonderful images you create, Gaelyn.
Although I love to travel and explore new places there is something special about learning a place over time and recognizing the horizon line. All good memories. I encourage you to get out there and shoot.
Another Fiddler on the Roof reference? With your clouds and landscape to work with you have some awesome shots. Sunrise over the Sea of Cortez is pretty much the same, yawn.
I am sorry life is so hard on the beach. 😉
I would probably be up every day for sunrise if the skies looked like that final picture. What terrific photographs Gaelyn. Your skies are amazing in all directions. I think those who know me well would likely say the same thing about the extrovert/introvert combination. When I’m with people I’m often an extrovert but I spend most of my time not being social at all. It tires me out. Also have the same weight problem which started in my early 60’s after having never had to worry a bit the entire previous part of my life. I can’t blame it on lack of exercise. Hope yours isn’t a permanent situation.
Thanks. You definitely see more sunrises than I. I’m working on it. I sure hope the weight gain isn’t permanent but at least it isn’t obesity like my overweight brother.
I guess I am a nephologist also. I have been taking pics of the western sky at work for years now, especially during winter when the sunset happens.
Take care of yourself!! Get out and walk a little bit. If you feel like it.
And thus why we met on SkyWatch Friday.
Love sunrise, sunset, and cloud photos! Great job:) There haven’t been any super sunsets since we arrived in the desert. We are hoping to get one before we leave that we can enjoy at Fonts Point. Now get out tomorrow for a hike!!!
Fonts Point would be an awesome place for a sunrise or set.
I can feel how relaxed you are from your words and pics. Nothing wrong with taking a break from “getting out and about” for a bit. You’ll soon be in the mix at Q. I definitely slowed down a lot this winter and am feeling the impact of it – I too need to get moving 🙂
It’s been a good break but it’s time to get moving. Tomorrow I roll to Q. Hope to catch up with you this winter somewhere. And we can go for a hike.
Though I love the sky shots, I want you to walk to get them! Glad you’re going to get rolling soon. I ‘ve never known you to not be moving and clicking. Keep well and start exploring.
I roll to Quartzsite tomorrow.
