This week’s Foto Friday Fun features 12 images chosen by readers from my photo files including several sunsets plus a touch of snow.
Mary Lou chose #1157. During spring at Toroweap overlook there’s more to see than the amazing view of the Colorado River. Flowers like the Greenstem Paperflower bloom early before the heat of summer settles in.
Pam and John chose #601. From a January 2012 visit to the South Rim Grand Canyon National Park a little snow could be seen clinging to the canyon walls as I gazed across the Big Ditch to my summer North Rim home. I was attending a Grand Canyon History Symposium.
Jeff chose #060517, “the date we planned to leave.” Had to shorten that to 6157 for this sunset over the Indian Ocean in Tsitsikamma National Park, South Africa from 2-27-14.
Jim and Diana chose #1894, “the year Heceta Head lighthouse near Florence, Oregon was lit and it’s still shinning bright!” They are volunteering at the lighthouse this summer. I would happily volunteer at Tsitsikamma National Park in South Africa but have to be a resident to do so. So instead I settled with a walk on the suspension bridge trail in 2013 where I saw this adorable Dassie looking up at me.
Sallie and Bill chose #9879, “part of my library card #.” Don’t think they’ll be using that card much while they are on the road from Florida to Oregon right now. And I didn’t need one either when visiting Pilanesberg Game Reserve in South Africa in March 2014 and saw this glorious sunset instead of reading a book.
Jodee and Bill chose #9000. As fellow RVers they are currently watching sunsets over the Pacific Ocean. This sunset was taken in February while I camped along Darby Well Road near Ajo Arizona. Desert, beach, it’s all good at sunset.
Donna chose #577. A backwards view from September 2011 of one of the many meadows seen along SR67 on the Kaibab National Forest.
Diane and Nigel chose #306. Far views and big sky could be seen along SR89 as I drove north through the Painted Desert on 9-10-11, the same return trip to the North Rim as the above photo.
Jo chose #5832. She may be familiar with Mount Frere, South Africa. And I became too familiar with it after a little car accident near there during my 2014 visit.
Patti and Abi chose #310. This sunset seen from Plateau Point in the depths of Grand Canyon from an October, 2009 rim to rim hike with friends. Can you see the Colorado River?
Yogi chose #9001. This is Joan’s and my camp while staying at Twee Rivieren in the Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park in South Africa. We were glad of the shade trees during the summer heat even at 7:00 at night during March 2014.
Sherry and David chose #5656. Quite the contrast to the previous image seeing the first of winter snow along SR67 on the Kaibab National Forest on 11-22-15.
My choice from a hike this week to the end of the Cape Final trail where the mouth of the Little Colorado River can be seen across Grand Canyon.
Thank you for playing along with Foto Friday Fun which allows me to share these photographs and memories. Please join in next week by leaving a number between 1 and 9999 in your comment below.
Do you have a favorite this week?
Stunning set of photos and I love the sunsets. South African drivers are not the best, but hitting the taxi was a better bet than being hit by a truck!! Glad you were safe. Love that last shot, beautiful. 907 for next week please. Enjoy your weekend, Diane and Nigel
Thanks Diane. So I learned, the hard way, about SA drivers. Have you down for #907.
Really enjoying the photos and the interesting stories behind them. I’d like to choose 8252 for next week please. Keep up the fantastic work!
Sorry, for some reason it wouldn’t let me enter my information for the coment above. I’m Kelley from 2 Hearts & 2 Wheels. https://2heartsand2wheels.wordpress.com/
Thank you for the comment and joining in Kelley. For some reason some people can’t comment. You get #8252 for next week.
Hello, gorgeous images. I love the canyon views and the beautiful sunsets. Happy Friday, enjoy your weekend!
Thank you.
Love that week included several sunsets. I always enjoy those. Our photo over the Grand Canyon and you choice for this week are beautiful. I really like you view of the Canyon from your hike. It reminds me more of a Utah photo with the colors.
I had to look up the Dassie to see exactly what it was and get a size perspective. They are quite large.
Another topic…I see they have completed the Yarnell Memorial. They had it on the news the other night. It is quite impressive. I thought it a fitting idea that one has to hike to visit it.
Canyon colors really are more like Utah. I haven’t hiked the Yarnell Memorial trail but have hiked in the area pre-fire.
What a wonderful life you have led to have taken these beautiful sunset pictures from three totally different places. I had to look up the Dassie he’s so cute. First thing I saw was “Dassie Rat”. Well that’s one mighty big rat. Sounds scary rather than cute. Then I noticed he’s also called the Rock Hyrax. I like that better. I think it might be nice to have a little snow for Thanksgiving. Now I know where to go if I want that. I’ll try # 8900 for next week.
Guess I should have included the Rock Hyrax name. I think they are very cute. I could do without snow any time. You get #8900 next week.
A whole lot of pretty sunsets.
Next week: #587
Thanks Donna. #587 for you next week.
Enjoyed all of this week’s photos- especially the sunset from Plateau Point. Please put me down for 6920 for next week- Mary Lou
Thanks Mary Lou. Plateau Point is a perfect place for sunset when hiking inner canyon. #6920 for you.
I love the blooms in the first photo a lot!! And you always have canyon photos and others from your travels.
I’m going with 5000 for next week!!
Thanks Yogi. You get #5000 next week.
As much as I love our time along the coast, nothing beats a desert sunset for me.
Wow – tent camping in South Africa – what an amazing life!!
8390 for next week please.
I too am more of a desert and mountain person than ocean. Yet I do like to listen to the waves. Have you down for #8390.
I can see the river and that is a stunning photo!
Next week #320, please.
Thanks. You get #320.
Always great pictures, but you have it this week – nice choice! On the way to everybody’s favorite boondock site – Darby Well Road on AZ 85 it was 95F in Ajo … no boondocking we stopped in Ajo and have the A/C on! I’l take 8595 nest week – it’s toasty here on 85 🙂
OMWow! Those are brutal temperatures. I believe that’s a winter area. Was 80 at 5pm on the forest just north of Flagstaff. Thank goodness for a breeze and the immediate drop as the sun went down. Have you down for #8595.
Always better to be outdoors seeing the sunset than sitting inside. And I love “my” beautiful South Africa one — thank you very much . But after the sun sets it gets dark and so the library card comes in handy no matter where we are. ( Kindle e-books can be checked out, so I actually will use it even on the road.) And speaking of being on the road, we are in between right now — I’ll get back to routine– — including blogging and reading blogs when we get back to Oregon (and are guaranteed a decent wi-fi connection. (No choice for next week on purpose in other words).
Hope you’re seeing some marvelous sunsets along the journey to Oregon.
