This week’s Foto Friday Fun features 10 images chosen by readers from my photo files including several dramatic skies, places visited in South Africa, of course the Grand Canyon, and my wedding cake.
Diane and Nigel chose #2605. One of the many nice guest houses I stayed at in South Africa during my 2013 visit. The Old Mill Lodge in Outdshoorn used to be an ostrich farm and there are still a few around. In fact I had ostrich for dinner here.
Mary Lou chose #3395. There’s more to see than wildlife at Addo Elephant National Park, South Africa. These are flowering Pigs ear, although I don’t really see the resemblance.
Pam and John chose #8109. Summer monsoons provide the most dramatic views of Grand Canyon.
Sallie and Bill chose #727, the date she’ll be meeting a friend for lunch after they get to Oregon from Florida. I’m pretty sure their journey won’t take them through the Painted Desert of central Arizona yet at this time of year they might see some dramatic skies along their journey.
Donna chose #567. If you’re in the Flagstaff area consider a visit to Wupatki National Monument.
Sherry and David chose #8521. I don’t see Grand Canyon from the South Rim very often yet have spent two birthdays there over the years. This shot taken 2015 from Moran Point looking down canyon at the Colorado River.
Jeff chose #9106, “the contract number I have for a few man weeks billing while on our 2017 road trip.” Wish I could bill, and get paid for, some woman hours for my travels to places like Augrabies Falls National Park, South Africa. Guess my pay was for celebrating my 60th there.
Patti and Abi chose #300. During a 2005 visit to San Felipe, Baja Mexico, I hiked with a couple friends (the two guys in the back row) almost to a waterfall. We passed on the rope swing to get to the actual falls then sat with these guys who had just returned while they dried out in the sun.
Jodee and Bill chose #3301. That white blob is a bleached out elephant skull seen in Addo Elephant National Park, South Africa while on a 2013 safari drive.
Bibi chose #18, “the number of days of an upcoming trip.” On June 26, 1980 I was ready for a trip honeymoon hitchhiking from Illinois to California and back. My wedding cake and bouquet put together by friends.
My choice from Tuesday’s drive to North Rim overlooks on the Walhalla Plateau. The Point Imperial view was hazy to the southeast because of wind blown smoke from a prescribed burn near Tusayan outside of the South Rim Grand Canyon National Park.
Thank you for playing along with Foto Friday Fun which allows me to share these photographs and memories. Please join in next week by leaving a number between 1 and 9999 in your comment below.
Do you have a favorite this week?
I enjoyed all of this week’s photos and can’t decide on a favorite. Please put me down for 1157 for next week- Mary Lou
Thanks Mary Lou. You get #1157 next week.
I do believe we had the winning photo this week. That monsoon photo at the Grand Canyon is amazing!! There is so much detail in the photo.
Waputki NM is very neat. We totally enjoyed out visit there. I am glad I discovered it.
The bleached out elephant skull is huge!!
#601
Thanks. I LOVE monsoon for taking photos of the canyon. Elephants are HUGE. You get #601 next week.
All your photos of the Grand Canyon are post-card-perfect, but this week Pam is right – a monsoon is awesome! But I’ll take my choice, the photo doesn’t show much but the link to Augrabies Falls National Park, South Africa – OMG I want to go there!
RoadTrip 2017 has been delayed a week – put me down for 060517 – the date we planned to leave.
Thanks Jeff. I only share the best ones and love monsoon season for photography. Augrabies falls, like all the South African National Parks I’ve visited, is awesome. You should go. I can hook you up with a great guide. You’ll get some variation of #060517.
Let’s do 1894 this week, Gaelyn. That’s the year Heceta Head Lighthouse near Florence, Oregon first was lit. It is still shining bright!
Sorry for the late reply. For some reason, your comments always go into my spam file. #1894 it is.
You hitchhiked on your honeymoon? You climbed a rope ladder to a waterfall? Holy cow I have led a boring life!! But I do love roadtrips and so the picture I ‘chose’ is perfect (even if it’s a different dramatic sky than the ones I’m hoping we will see starting next week). And of course your scenic pictures are all amazing as always.
I’ll choose 9879 — part of a number posted on the bulletin board in front of me here at my desk (part of my library card # actually.)
Thanks Sallie. In my younger years I was more adventurous, or stupid depending on how you look at it. Road trips are good no matter where. Have a safe journey. You get #9879 for next week.
I have to agree with Pam – love the monsoon shot of the canyon, just stunning! Our photo reminds me of all the incredible things you’ve seen in South Africa and how lucky we are that you share so many of them you share with us 🙂 Thanks for that.
9000 for next week please.
Thanks Jodee. Monsoon is one of the best times to photograph the canyon. So dramatic. Glad you like seeing South Africa through my lens. I long to return. You get #9000 for next week.
I love all the dramatic skies.
Next week: #577
Thanks. Have you down for #577.
Not a photo here that I do not love. Have you ever cooked ostrich neck as oxtail? If not try it next time you head to RSA is is superb. So tasty and not fat like oxtail. 306 for next week please. Hugs Diane and Nigel
Thanks Diane. I ate oxtail soup as a kid but ostrich is not readily available in the states. You get #306 next week.
Hi Gaelyn, I loved every image as usual but my favorite is of the flowering pig’s ear. I’ve never seen this flower here in SA and will look it up soon. I also love your wedding bouquet and cake. What an adventurous lady you have been since your youth: to hitchhike on your honeymoon. If my comment publishes, I choose as a number: 5832. (((Hugs))) Jo. xx
Thanks Jo. I was much more adventurous in my younger years. Have you down for #5832.
Interesting photo I chose this week. I clicked back and read the story behind the photo, thanks for posting the link, it was interesting to read the back story.
I think, Gaelyn, that you have lead a life and a half, and that you’ve lived it on your terms, good for you!
Next week, #310.
Thanks Patti. Glad you enjoyed the story. I like to think I’m still pretty much living on my own terms. Well, except when working for the gov. 😉 #310 for you next week.
Love the canyon views, and Wupatiki monument, and your wedding cake.
Sorry I have been such a bad blog friend.
My number is 9001 for next week.
Thanks Yogi. I believe vacation is more important than reading blogs. Looks like you all had a great time. You get #9001.
I think my favorite this week is the artistic image of the Flowering Pig’s Ear although what a terrible name for such a lovely thing. I love the combination of the hazy and sharp images. Of course it’s hard to put anything before my picture of the canyon from the South Rim and your favorite this week from Walhalla. I’d like # 5656 for next week please
Thank you Sherry. I seem to struggle with macros so when one comes out I’m happy. So far this season I’ve remiss taking photos of the canyon. Not even carrying the camera and occasionally remembering to use the phone. #5656 for you next week. Hope all is well.
