This week’s Foto Friday Fun features 11 images chosen by readers out of my photo files ranging from Oregon to Mexico, South Africa and Arizona.
Rosemary chose #777. July 2009 monsoon at Grand Canyon provided quite a show.
Pam and John chose #9714. I’ve always wanted to ride in a hot air balloon however the price was out of my budget when visiting Pilanesberg Game Reserve in South Africa in 2014.
Mary Lou chose #5520. About the only time I regularly see sunrise is when visiting South Africa. This 2014 shot taken over the Indian Ocean from Scottburgh Caravan Park.
Sallie and Bill get #46 for the number of words in their comment last week. Back in the 1980s I worked as an animal keeper at the California Living Museum in Bakersfield. This Ring-tail cat was on display in a dim environment as it would typically be seen only after dark.
Sherry and David chose #5261. Being they love water I think they’d join me on this warm water slide in Badplaas South Africa. This shot from 2014. I’d go back in a heartbeat.
Jodee and Bill chose #9119. An easy walk leads to several overlooks of Augrabies Falls and the water was thundering during my 2014 visit to South Africa.
Diane and Nigel chose #605. The Box Canyon Dwelling is one of many Native American ruins in Wupatki National Monument, Arizona. I visited this in an April snow storm in 2009.
Yogi chose #2273. Volunteer amateur astronomers from the Tucson area set up every June on the North Rim for Grand Canyon’s star party. Many urban and city dwelling visitors have never seen the sky so dark.
Donna chose #547. Another sunrise, unusual for me, from my camp off House Rock Valley Road on the way to hike Buckskin Gulch slot canyon back in 2009.
Because Jeff is currently in San Felipe Baja Mexico and I was there 12 years ago he asked for a photo from then. I’ll bet it’s changed a little bit. Maybe I need to go back and see for myself.
Patti chose #270. My previous 5th-wheel had smaller windows in the rear but more shelves for chachtkies. The view of the Siskiyou forest near Cave Junction, Oregon was dense and lush where I was a camphost(ess) at Cave Creek campground only four miles from where I worked as a Ranger at Oregon Caves National Monument in 2007.
I went to training with a couple other Rangers…
Thank you for playing along with Foto Friday Fun which allows me to share these photographs and memories. Join in by leaving a number from 1-9999 in your comment below.
Have a favorite this week?
Love the last photo, Gaelyn. Love bridges all. ❤️
This week we pick #275, the height of the General Sherman Tree…the Giant Sequoia we were fortunate to be able to see, thanks to folks like John Muir and Hale Tharp.
Thanks, although the last shot is not a bridge, just a teaser for next week. As you know, I love national parks so am just a little jealous as I’ve never seen the giant Sequoias, yet. Have you down for #275.
The opening photo of the monsoon in Grand Canyon! The colors are gorgeous. I’ve never had a desire to go up in a hot air balloon. I guess I am not that trusting:) Prior to March I wouldn’t have had a clue where Waputki NM was. Now I can say I know exactly where your photos was taken!!
Almost opening day!! Enjoy your summer:)
#7021
Monsoon is the best time to visit the canyon with the magic and mystery of inversion. Have you down for #7021.
Stunning photos and I love the first one of the monsoon. The native American ruins fascinate me. I always thought they only lived in tepees. You live and learn all the time.
My Mum always wanted to go up in a balloon but she never did, I agree the cost is a little over the normal budget! Strangely it something that does not really appeal to me!!
Love all the South African shots. Take care and before I forget 1205 for next week please. Diane and Nigel
Thanks Diane. Monsoon is my favorite season for photography at the canyon. I think TV and movies lead many to believe Native Americans only lived in teepees. You get #1205 next week.
You bet we’d love to do that cool looking warm water slide with you. Great sunrise in South Africa. Love the falls picture from there as well. And of course any monsoon/canyon picture. I’ll try 6817, the day we leave for Maine.
I was like a little kid running around to go down that slide as many times as possible. I so look forward to more posts and pics from Maine. You get #6817.
I couldn’t have chosen a better picture than my ring-tail, but apologies for forgetting to leave a number yet again. Before I forget again, lets go for 66 next time, not for any devilish reason, but because that’s when I’d like to be headed out of Florida toward Oregon eventually. Loved all the pictures this time, especially your sunrises — South Africa turns you into a morning person with beautiful results! I forgot to mention I loved the condor on your previous post — yeah, his is sort of a face only a mother could love, but the success story is sure something to celebrate.
Thanks Sallie. Wishing you a good journey back across country. Sunrises are so early. 😉 You get #66 next week.
Enjoyed all of this week’s photos- please put me down for 5122 for next week. Mary Lou
Thanks Mary Lou. You get #5122 next week.
I especially loved the sunrise pics – don’t usually see them either.
Next week: #557
Sunrise is just too early. You get #557.
The depth of colors in the monsoon picture is awesome!, but I’ll stick with the picture of the San Felipe dry dock. That old tug boat is still there, so that hasn’t changed. But your right the town is again searching for an identity catering to the ex-pat retired population. BTW – Puertocitos (Puerto City) now charges to even look at the hot tubs, let alone enjoy a soak … but the road is now paved.
I’ll take 275 next week, the distance from the beach house to home.
I liked that the awful road to Puertocitos kept it small and quaint. Thus is life and change. #275 for you next week.
We’d love the walk over the rocks to the falls! Love the monsoon at the canyon, such beauty :-)))
Monsoon is my favorite time of year to make photos.
I always like the variety of photos you have. I love them all! Next week is 3271
Thanks Yogi. It really is fun for me to see these old memories pop up. You get #3271 next week.
Another great collection of photos, I especially loved the sunrise photo as I rarely see the sunrise, I’m definitely more of a sunset person. 😉
We visited the Oregon Caves years (and years) ago, there’s always so much beauty to see in Oregon.
Next week: #280, please.
Thanks Patti. You won’t see many sunrises from me. #280 for you next week. Happy Homelessness! 😉
That’s funny, Gaelyn, it’s a bit of a process to wrap my head around what we’ve done! It’s all good, but I suspect it will take us a while to get used to the notion that we have no place to hang our hat. Although, once we start traveling in a few weeks we won’t have time to think about it. 😉
