This week’s Foto Friday Fun features 11 images chosen by readers from my photo files including some wildlife. When searching for numbers that are a year date I’ve been alive that’s what usually pops up so there’s a few oldies here.
Jim and Diana chose #2008. The first shot of 2008, a rather common sight in Yarnell, Arizona were I lived. Javelina are not pigs but are related to swine and hippopotami.
Mary Lou chose #7432. While on safari in Addo Elephant National Park wildlife sightings are not always big animals. Birding is also notable with what I considered exotic species like this Fiscal shrike.
Sherry and David chose #2190. They recently visited Africa in Disney’s Animal Kingdom and may have seen giraffes. Note how the giraffe has to spread its legs to reach that long neck to the salt lick. This shot taken 4-3-14 at a lunch stop with a deck in Pilanesberg Game Reserve South Africa.
Pam and John chose #8273. They love to hike in national parks but there is NO hiking in wildlife parks in South Africa, and this is one of the reasons why. Usually elephants in Addo Elephant National Park are pretty docile and are just using the roads as a trail. But it’s always wise to back out of their way until they stop to eat something along the road or take off into the bush. Sorry for the dirty windshield shot.
Jeff chose #3571. In November, 2014 I went to Bandon, Oregon with a friend and we explored this place she had lived many years ago including the beach and the jetty.
Donna chose #457. This might look like where I’ve been traveling this winter in southern AZ but it’s actually a scene along the Baja race track in Mexico. I wasn’t in any race, just jeeping with friends during a winter visit in 2005.
Jodee and Bill chose #4340. A sunset seen through my RV window last winter in Kanab, Utah. Hope we get a better sunset this weekend when we all finally get to meet in Quartzsite, Arizona.
Yogi chose #2150 in his jumps of 100. Not sure how he feels about snakes but this 100 foot snake made of rocks might make anybody jump. A short hike up Coyote Mountain in Anza-Borrego State Park leads to this creative desert art.
Patti chose #160 in her leaps of 10 which takes us back to winter 1997 when I toured Keys Ranch in Joshua Tree National Park.
Rosemary chose #1975, the “year my oldest son was born.” There was a snow storm on the day I was born (1954) and if I’m in a location where it’s possible to snow it usually does on my birthday, March 26th. No different on this day in 1975 at my favorite place in Illinois, where I was born, sharing Starve Rock State Park with friends as they stood at the base of a frozen waterfall. Low quality as scanned from a print.
Sallie chose #1957, “the year we got married.” I was three years old in 1957 and Mom was into studio photographs. I couldn’t decide between the cheesy smile or far away look so you get them both.
My choice yet another crested organ pipe cactus nearby Darby Well Road. Yea, I went back there after leaving Organ Pipe Cactus National Monument and glad I did.
Thank you for playing along with Foto Friday Fun which allows me to share these photographs and memories. Please join in next week by leaving a number between 1 and 9999 in your comment below.
Do you have a favorite this week?
Thanks for sharing your awesome photos. Please put me down for 2242 for next week- Mary Lou
Thank you for the compliment but this batch of photos were mostly good for memories, not as quality photos. Have you down for #2242.
I love when the numbers chosen include African animals. The giraffe and elephants are so cute. Smart fellow working those legs to get low. What cute photos, Gaelyn, at three:) Love, love the crested organ pipe arm!
#9581
I too love to be reminded of South Africa. How I long to return. I need you around to spot more of these cristates. Have you down for #9581.
Sorry no connection while in the bush! Love all these photos but have lost track of numbers. Todays date for next week 224 Hugs Diane
The bush is your connection. Means you’re having a wonderful time. Have you down for #224.
Oh gosh those 3-year-old Gaelyn photos are adorable! Both of them.
I am loving my leaps of 10 because they keep revealing so many interesting photos and tales of your journey. I love historic buildings, they have such stories to tell.
Next up #170.
Awww, geee…. Yet I do love having these photos pop up and bring back memories, the one thing in life we can build and nobody can take away. Have you down for #170.
Snakes, Yikes!!! I don’t mind snakes too much unless one surprises me and then its adrenalin time. I don’t mess with them any more, even rattlesnakes who I killed several of when I lived as a kid in Arizona and Utah, and for some reason I feel bad about now.
Anyways, I love the photo, and all your other photos especially the elephant shot. Yes, I would think hiking there would not be wise. Unless you wanted to contribute your protein to the greater good.
I give snakes their personal space and lots of respect. Sadly we didn’t understand about even rattlers importance in the web of life when we were kids. No number this week?
Let’s see… this week I especially like the elephant, the organ pipe cactus, and both pictures of 3-yr-old you.
Next week: #467
Thanks Donna. Have you down for #467.
Regardless of any sunset, meeting you was such a treat – like we’ve known each other for years :-))) That elephant is very intimidating – the car looks like a toy! Great pic of Keys Ranch. I like the cheesy smile best 🙂 #7050 for next week please.
I am SO glad our paths finally crossed. I so love face to face meetings with new old friends. Yea, elephants are Really big. Have you down for #7050.
The Great Snake of Clark Lake – without all company! Do you recall when that was taken? There’s many dozens of ‘rock art’ there now. But I like my luck choice best, what’s not to like about an Oregon beach? I’ll take the next in my series of odd 5713.
That shot came from winter 2015. I’ve seen there’s way more added to the area via folks photos. Have you down for #5713.
I’m back among the living at least enough to catch Foto Friday. Love my giraffes. They are the most wonderful unique animals. Great picture. The size of the elephant is really clear with the car approaching. What an experience. Love your cute little self. I think I’ll take # 9 since it is now 9 days and counting that I’ve had this dang nabbed virus.
I’m so sorry you’ve both been so sick and hoping you’re now on the road to recovery. Always a bit of a shock when an animal as large as an elephant, or giraffe, walk by a car to put their size in perspective. Have you down for #9, and let this be the last day of this virus. Be well.
Hi, Gaelyn, so great to finally meet you! I sure enjoyed our “walk ‘n talk,” and appreciated all your knowledge. Now I keep seeing those sharp reddish brown rocks all over! Remind me of what they are? The ones that were super hard? Woke up to RAIN this morning… The desert is smiling. 🙂
Okay, I want to get in on this Foto Friday Fun – what a great idea! How about 3 – you and me and Kim sitting around visiting. ☺
I loved our “walk ‘n talk” also and wish I’d had more time to spend with you both. Yet we Will meet again. The red hard edged rock is jasper. Rain in the desert is special. Looking like it should be raining in Kirkland any second. Have you down for #3. Thanks for joining in. And thanks for the heads up about your commenting problem. I’ll pass along the idea of hitting the tab key on the comment form instead of using the mouse.
I got a kick out of your studio photos — we moms were all into that in the 60s – I’ve got photos of all four of our kids in similar poses, even the boys. I remember the trauma of trying to keep them looking clean and neat while we waited in line.
Anyway, that was fun and so was Bandon and the javelina and the cacti — all bringing back lovely memories. But I’m gonna’ say the snake art was my favorite today, just because I think it’s amazing that somebody did that and it’s something I’ve never seen.
Oh you moms.
I understand there is more than the snake made of rocks there now.
It’s only Monday so you’ll get #208 for Friday.
Oh drat, I forgot again. To save you from counting words, lets have 208 — my post office box number in the resort. (That’s assuming you even have room for my choice — I’m really late to the party yet again.) Thanks for doing this fun post every week. I really enjoy it.
