This week’s Foto Friday Fun features 11 images chosen by readers from my photo files including lots of rocks and a way to get over them.
Jim and Diana chose #3340, “That’s the height of Red Shirt Table, the highest point in Badlands National Park, located in the South, or ‘Stronghold’ Unit.” This shot of reflections in the gift shop at the North Rim Grand Canyon National Park is at 8200 feet and was taken during our 4th of July water parade in 2014.
Mary Lou chose #1272. Seems I’m always seeing faces and shapes in rocks. This unusual boulder was seen in a side canyon along the Cottonwood Canyon road in Grand Staircase-Escalante back in 2011. What do you see?
Diane and Nigel chose #3331. Another shot from the above 2014 4th of July water parade. One of our maintenance guys dressed up as Uncle Sam uses a large tank on his old truck to keep the water coming.
Ann and Bill chose #3227. When hiking the short Cape Royal trail on the North Rim Grand Canyon you can see the Colorado River through Angels Window. You can even go out on top of this rock fin. I’m betting they’ve both been here when visiting.
Pam and John chose #1277. Same side canyon as above along Cottonwood Canyon Road the erosion caused a hole in this boulder and Mike is peering through it.
Jodee and Bill chose #3010. When Jim and Gayle visited the North Rim summer of 2015, Bill and I took them hiking on the Rainbow Rim trail on the Kaibab National Forest. We started our hike at Parissawampitts Point where this shot was taken of Grand Canyon.
Patti chose #130, in her continued leaps of 10. Square Tower House in Mesa Verde National Park was not toured but seen from the driving loop. This shot taken in 2005 when I worked at the park.
Sallie chose #9998. This was my RV window view on April 26, 2015 at the North Rim Grand Canyon of Transept Canyon.
Sherry and David chose #3592. The metal sculptures by Ricardo Breceda are life-size at Galleta Meadows near Borrego Springs. I was ready to hop aboard and take a ride.
Yogi chose #2020. My first date with Bill back in spring 2015 was to White Pocket in the Vermilion Cliffs National Monument.
Donna chose #427. The 2010 hike into Havasu Canyon was amazing. Once at the bottom we saw the Wii’igliva sentinals watching over the village of Supai.
My choice is a teaser for seeing California fan palms hiking in Palm Canyon on the KOFA National Wildlife Refuge.
Thank you for playing along with Foto Friday Fun which allows me to share these photographs and memories. Please join in next week by leaving a number between 1 and 9999 in your comment below.
Do you have a favorite this week?
BTW, Yogi won the fine art print giveaway. Don’t forget to check out my photography site and maybe you’ll find something you want.
Very colorful storefront, Gaelyn! The second photo looks like a duck or a goose preening its’ wing feathers. And that last one looks like the backside of a monster who is hungry for a palm salad!
This week we choose the number 1970, the year Sleeping Bear Dunes was made a national lakeshore.
I saw a duck too but missed the monster. Have you down for #1970.
Enjoyed them all- can’t pick a favorite this week. I see a frog holding a person’s face in the boulder.
Please put me down for 2320 for next week- Mary Lou
Thank you Mary Lou. I didn’t see that frog. Have you down for #2320.
I love rock pictures.
Next week: #437
That’s good because you know how much I love rocks. Have you down for #437.
Wow! Lots of awesome photos of rocks!! Yes! Our photo is so appropriate! We have tried to drive this road from both ends two different years! Both times it was impassable and closed!!! Maybe this year will be the year…one can hope! Love those holes you can peek through:)
#0203
Hope this drive happens for you as Cottonwood Canyon is gorgeous. Have you down for #0203.
Ha! Friday! I remembered. I love the photo Mesa Verde. We have yet made it but I would so love to. We had planned a visit a few years back while on a road trip, but the weather turned ugly and made it impossible for us to head in that direction. Maybe one day.
The photo of the jeep is hilarious.
Next week. #140 because why break up a good run?!
You’ll love Mesa Verde when you get there. All the sculptures around Borrego Springs are awesome. Have you down for #140.
I just get swept away by those Grand Canyon pictures. My favorites are the Rainbow Rim and Cape Royal trail views. Beautiful!! I’d like 3654 for next week.
No bad views of Grand Canyon. Have you down for #3654.
Love the view from your imax window that was my ‘choice’….and again it brings back super memories of our full time RVing. I kept coming back to that rock — can hardly believe it wasn’t carved. I think its a cormorant with that beak. Nature’s sculpture! Wonder how many eons that took. Wow.
Can’t wait to read more about your hike….. I will choose 3917 last part of our Zip Code here… (I just finished sending some snail mail. Why do we still have to do that?)
I do love those Imax windows. The rock looked like a duck to me. Mother Nature is the best artist ever. Working on the hike post. Have you down for #3917. I rarely send snail mail.
Love our North Rim pic – we are hoping to make it there this year!! Wonderful shot of Transept Canyon, I always love fog in beautiful landscapes :-)) 2470 for next week please
Thanks Jodee. I do hope you’ll make it to the NR. Sure would like to meet you two and share the canyon. Or maybe we’ll meet on the desert. Have you down for #2470.
Darn, I almost forgot, I may be too late. I love the jeep sculpture!!
My number (and I know that I’m too late) is 5000.
All the sculptures out by Borrego Springs are awesome. You made it, just barely, so have you down for #5000.
