This week’s Foto Friday Fun features images chosen by nine readers from my photo files including a Christmas blast from the past.
Mary Lou chose #1699. When boating on Lake Powell it is very important to keep track of the buoy numbers compared to the map. I can imagine it would be easy to get lost otherwise. Or at least for me, a mapaholic.
Pam and John chose #9331. One of eight in a panorama taken last October from the Ken Patrick trail on the North Rim Grand Canyon. Unfortunately these fall aspen won’t be seen this year because of the Fuller Fire. But they’ll be back.
Jodee and Bill chose #3401. Safari in South Africa is not always about the big animals. Saw this Black-shouldered Kite in Addo Elephant National Park 2-19-13.
Donna chose #247. I think she is going for this entire 2008 rim to rim hike across Grand Canyon as it’s at least the third photo she’s picked. This tunnel along Bright Angel trail is almost to the top of the South Rim.
Patti chose #5691. Last week she didn’t care for her spider choice as she’s not a fan of creepy crawly things. Hope she doesn’t consider fossils in that category. A bank of sedimentary deposits along the Indian Ocean in South Africa revealed all kinds of cool fossils including a huge ammonite. Taken 2-22-14.
Diane and Nigel chose #6669. Part of a series she’s chosen from along the Waterfall trail in Tsitsikamma National Park 2-28-14. Being their trip to South Africa isn’t taking them to Tsitsikamma I think she wants to see it in photos.
Fabgrandma chose #1952, “for the year I was born.” Good choice as I’m teasing her to come to the desert this winter with Fabgrandpa. And I’d be sure this ocotillo near my December 2014 camp in Anza-Borrego Desert State Park, California is older than she is.
Sallie chose #1 because “Seems like nobody ever wants to go first.” Not so with me as I’m often the first to volunteer. But I’d also be the first to say, I’m not sure when this shot from youth in Downers Grove, Illinois was taken. Probably the late 1960s sometime. Had to be Christmas morning because no packages would have been under the tree before then.
Yogi chose #9989, “…in honor of me and Heather’s anniversary.” These two are as magical as seeing inversion in Grand Canyon.
My choice from 9-3-16, a perfect day of light, clouds, and shadows at Point Imperial on the North Rim Grand Canyon. Mount Hayden may be the icon from this overlook but the big view steals the show.

Perfect photo for us:) How lucky that we got two!!
#7362
Have you down for #7362.
Enjoyed them all. My favorite is your choice. I love the beauty of your park. Please put me down for 1366 for next week.
Thanks Mary Lou. I never tire of the Grand Canyon. Have you down for #1366.
Thanks for the Tsitsikamma photo, we should have booked for longer as there is so much no we cannot fit in but Nigel thought we would not have enough to do!!!!!!!! Love all the canyon photos. 5551 for next week please. Best wishes to you and of course Bill. Diane and Nigel.
Thank you. I really never tire of the canyon. During three months on the last visit I never ran out of things to do. Have you down for #5551 in your new series. Best to both of you.
Ha! Ha! I’m good with fossils! They’re super interesting and there’s so much history.
Next week: 5156
Was hoping the fossils wouldn’t creep you out. Have you down for #5156.
I can’t believe how beautiful South Africa is. I also really like your choice this week.
Since I am loving the rim to rim hike pictures, I will try to stay here a little longer by choosing # 248 for next week.
Thanks Donna. South Africa is superb! How I want to return. We’ll see if you get more canyon hiking with your #248 choice.
Love, love our beautiful kite – such soft coloring. Even as we’re enjoying the northeast, we’re looking forward to returning to the desert and my favorite Ocotillos. 6029 for next week please.
I love reading about your northeast adventures to places I haven’t been but would also miss the desert. Have you down for #6029.
Good grief! I must have missed last week and I almost missed this week. So let me ask for #1010 right away. Love your blast from the past. I have almost no pictures from my childhood do that’s great. A waterfall trail makes me swoon, I remember the Bright Angel tunnel and love the fossils. Great pictures again!!
I don’t have very many childhood photos either, they were destroyed in my parents flooded out basement long ago. Have you down for #1010.
I’m choosing 4 (Sam just had a b-day!). I’ve been wondering how long you’ll work? There is some talk of snow here Fri – I’m not listening. I still can’t comment from my iMac – must use the iPad. Sometimes, I forget and read, comment and can’t get it to take my info.
Wow, Sam’s already four? My last day is Oct 18. Missed this week’s rain at the canyon while I was in Yarnell. I’m not ready for snow. Once I’m off work and have more time I’ll seriously try to figure out the commenting problem. Thanks for your persistence. Have you down for #4. Happy Birthday Sam!
