This week’s Foto Friday Fun features images chosen by nine readers from my photo files including mostly shots from South Africa, all tugging at my heartstrings. I’ve been thinking a lot about going back, even talking about it a little. Yet it’s so hard to save money over the summer season. The gears are churning. I told Bill, this winter I want to go somewhere exotic, south of the equator, and reasonably priced. So now I’m making a list and comparing prices. Any suggestions?
Bibi chose #6833 (one in a panorama), “which are the first numbers in the amount of [Serbian] dinars I have to pay for my ticket to the US this December!!” If I looked that up right that equals just under US$62. Wish I could fly anywhere for that price, especially back to South Africa. Then I’d hike the Waterfall trail in Tsitsikamma National Park again but this time bring my bathing suit and lunch so I could hang out there longer.
Diane and Nigel chose #6667. One of many tide pools along the hike to Tsitsikamma waterfall from the same trip above 2-28-16.
Pam and John chose #8875, “Today’s temp and dewpoint.” They are in the soggy Midwest right now. But I didn’t have that problem when visiting the dry Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park in South Africa during March 2014 where I saw these ground squirrels playing.
Mary Lou chose #2616. Helmeted Guineafowl seen in Mountain Zebra National Park during February 2013. Joan and I referred to them as breakfast as they usually just hung out on the road.
Sherry and David chose #1916. View with an arch from the Echo Ravine trail in Golden Gate Highlands National Park from my February 2013 visit. Another place to return in South Africa as I recently discovered there’s a cave here we didn’t see.
Yogi chose #4733. This old stove is still in use in the communal kitchen at Wild Spirit Backpackers Lodge in Nature’s Valley, South Africa. I didn’t try to use it but it sure is cool to see.
Sallie chose #9239, “the date my parents were married.” I’d gladly return to Augrabies Falls National Park for a wedding or anniversary.
Patti chose #1. Wow, I had 1000s of old memories pop up for this number making it very difficult to choose, though in all fairness I tried to find the oldest one. And thus the poor quality. Plus of course not from South Africa like the rest. From 1972, the year I graduated from High School, my BFF bathing her big dog in the bathtub in Downers Grove, Illinois.
Donna chose #227. A pair of Burchells zebras seen in Kruger National Park in February 2013.
My choice, keeping with the South Africa theme. A day of firsts during the 2010 visit. First visit to Kruger National Park and first lions on the first day there. She walked stately past Joan’s truck a mere four feet away, paused looked towards us then back to her young cubs, and walked on to stop on the road no more than 30 feet ahead. My heart pounded as I reminded myself to breath but I kept clicking the camera.

Do you have a favorite this week?
Enjoyed all of your wonderful photos this week- thanks for sharing . Please put me down for 7379 for next week.
Thanks Mary Lou. Have you down for #7379.
Ecuador!
I’ll put that on the list. Have you been?
Yes, back in 1998. You can see, and read about , where I went at my web site – click on Sitemap. The country is much more developed now.
Great pictures. 3250
Thanks. Have you down for #3250.
Some great scenery in these photos, but I’m partial to the old stove!
And as for my ticket, the numbers were only the first four….ticket comes out to around $620, but still a good deal~
Thanks Bibi. Just glad I didn’t have to cook on that stove. That’s a good price. Have you down for #1734.
Forgot my number: 1734, the time as I type, on the 24-hour clock.
Wow – love the old stove! The lioness looks so pensive. I’ve heard Uraguay is beautiful – hope your travel dreams come true, Gaelyn! I’m choosing 814 (month and day of our wedding anniversary).
The entire place, including the stove, was cool. I’ll have to look into Uraguay. Have you down for #814.
The lion is ultracool, that stove is the bomb. It looks very industrial!!
Lions always seem to act cool.
Just love the colors in my picture and the sweet little arch in Golden Gate Highlands. I hope you get to go back and see that cave. Of course I also love any waterfall anywhere and that one is a beauty..The ones we saw in the Finger Lakes were shadows of their real selves but they have a lot of waterfalls here in the Delaware Water Gap and they are much fuller though still low they tell us. Love the tide pool too. If it’s water, usually I love it. But the pictures for today are the animals. The Zebra picture is just fantastic. Look at those colors. I know that seeing the Lioness would make my heart jump for joy. How about 9267 for next time? Still having the name/email problem in chrome.
Thanks Sherry. I’d really like to return to South Africa but there other places on my long list too. Agree, any waterfall is marvelous. Seems Chrome is the problem. Have you down for #9267.
How interesting that the photos are almost all from outside the US!! Was that on purpose or just a coincidence? Very beautiful scenery:)
#1034
I usually have multiple choices for numbers and when most started coming up from South Africa I went for it. It’s a beautiful country. Have you down for #1034.
6668 for next week please, and guess what the comment is working first time for weeks on the laptop!!!
Love all the shots, love to see RSA whenever and so looking forward now to January. We will be in Botswana from 1 Feb until the 11th then hope to visit Joan before heading out with another friend to the Game reserves in KwaZulu-Natal, I never realised how many there are in that direction!!! We should have made the holiday longer we are going to be pressed for time…….
Hope you and Bill may be visiting while we are there 🙂 Have a good weekend Diane
Did you get your laptop fixed or is it magic? 😉 I thought you’d like this week’s photos. I so want to be there when you are but only time will tell. Visits to SA are never long enough. Have you down for #6668.
Magic it seems, but it is not working on everything. Forgot to add when I first got married in Rhodesia we had no electricity and I cooked in a Rayburn oven. The food tasted so much better than in an electric one! Thanks.
Don’t care for electric stoves but didn’t try to use this one. Magic is good.
Ha! Ha! That’s a fun find photo!
Next week, let’s go with # 3542 – just because.
Yea, I’d totally forgotten about that one. Have you down for #3542.
Next week I choose #237
I liked my pick this week – the south end of north-bound zebras
Loved your lion picture too
Thanks Donna. When on safari I end up taking many butt shots as the animals are often walking away. Have you down for #237.
