This week’s Foto Friday Fun features images chosen by nine readers from my photo files including National Parks in celebration of the National Park Service Centennial. And you must know I’m a National Park junkie.
Mary Lou chose #8192. Although I love the Virgin River Canyon the drive into Zion from the east on SR9 provides some of the most awesome rocky views. I always feel like I’ve arrived upon seeing Checkerboard Mesa.
Pam and John chose #0819. I embrace monsoon and find it the time of making the most photos at Grand Canyon. This shot during late afternoon from the Grand Lodge 9-13-15.
Diane and Nigel chose #6666. From a favorite hike last March in Joshua Tree National Park, Hidden Valley seems a magical place.
Yogi chose #267. Grand Canyon shows so many moods and one of my favorites is when the canyon hides among the clouds as they drift around the temples like a game of peek-a-boo. Monsoon often brings this kind of scene taken 9-11-12.
Patti chose #827. Lake Powell is a sharp contrast to the surrounding desert sandstone. Although beautiful, one trip on the lake was enough for me back in 2011.
Sherry and David forgot to leave a number so they get the number of words in their last comment, #54. When visiting Death Valley in February for Super Bloom a day of stormy skies and snow on Telescope Peak told a story of winter even with the gorgeous flowers below.
Jodee and Bill chose #2787. Another snowy winter shot this time from Zion National Park in January this year.
Donna chose #217, one in a panorama. Toroweap is an awesome place to camp even if the drive is long and very bumpy.
Sallie thought she was too late to leave a number so I give her #50 for the number of words in her comment. A collection pile of artifacts that visitors left at Step House In Mesa Verde National Park. I’m glad people don’t take the artifacts but they should always be left exactly where found. As a Park Ranger at the park in 2005 I talked a lot about take only memories and photographs.
My choice an all time favorite of the sunset light on Angels Gate, Wotans Throne, and beyond the South Rim taken 9-18-14. No bad views of Grand Canyon.
If you’re reading, commenting or just following along please join in for next week by leaving a number between 1 and 9999 in your comment below. A big thanks to everyone for playing along with Foto Friday Fun and allowing me to share these photographs and memories.
Do you have a favorite this week?
Regarding commenting problems. Seems part of the problem is Chrome but Internet Explorer seems to work. I don’t know why. Personally I use Firefox. Any suggestions are welcome.
Here I am on Internet Explorer, trying to leave a comment. Hey, it’s WORKING.
Happy with all your photos. Next week put me down for 6833, which are the first numbers in the amount of dinars I have to pay for my ticket to the US this December!!
YEA!!! Thanks Bibi. Have you down for #6833. Welcome back.
Hi Gaelyn back on the Nexus again, last week the laptop worked but not this week! A beautiful set of photos I really like them all but I have to agree that the sunset light on Angel’s Gate is amazing. 6667 for next week please. All the best to both you and Bill, Diane and Nigel
Seems Chrome is at least part of the comment problem. Explorer is working. Don’t ask me why. No bad views of Grand Canyon. Have you down for #6667. Be well you two.
Oh, my goodness, Gaelyn! What a great Friday of photos!! I love everyone of these places and right now I am soooo missing the west!! Flat land, corn, soybeans, humidity, and bugs are not my idea of fun and that’s what we have right now…yuck! Love my photo this week…very cool!!!
#8875 Today’s temp and dewpoint:(
If I was in the midwest I’d be missing the west too. Yuck to all that heat, humidity, and bugs. I could handle the corn for a little while. Have you down for #8875.
Awesome photos- can’t pick a favorite. Please put me down for 2616 for next week.
Thanks Mary Lou. Have you down for #2616.
No bad views of the Grand Canyon is just right. Boy did the readers pick some great ones. I just love the canyon peeking through the clouds and snowy Zion. I think you are so lucky to be near enough to see it in January. Wow! But I also love checkerboard mesa, your Joshua Tree photo and the sunset on Angels Gate. Hmmm I guess I really like them all. Lest I forget how about 1916 for next time? PS, I’m having to post my comment from Internet Explorer which I seldom use since Chrome won’t let me type in either the name or email space. Anyone else having that problem? Or is it just my machine?
Seems Chrome is at least part of the problem. No idea why. Others having the same problem. Thanks for your persistence. At last night’s evening program a visitor shared Shenandoah as their favorite park. Of course I’ve only seen it through your eyes but would have to agree. It’s on my list for after retirement. Have you down for #1916.
I am always a sucker for snow on sandstone photos but I love your others also.
My new number is 4733.
Thanks Yogi. Sure makes a marvelous contrast. Have you down for #4733.
What a great collection — and, again, HAPPY Anniversary to our NPS and thanks to you and all its dedicated rangers. And we loved Mesa Verde and i’m delighted with your choice for my picture. (Not so delighted that people insist on picking up the artifacts, but still a beautiful reminder of our time there.) (And thanks for letting me join even though I was so late — you picked really well for me, but I’ll leave a number for next week: 9239, the date my parents were married. )
Thanks. I absolutely love being a Park Ranger. Have you down for #9239.
I like my choice this week – Lake Powell. We visited years ago, don’t remember being overly impressed. 🙂
My # for next week is #1, just for fun!
The lake is impressive, but I’m not keen on it even being there. Have you down for #1.
This might be my favorite of all the Friday collections I’ve seen so far.
Next week: #227
Thank you so much Donna. Don’t have to go far in my photo collection to find national parks, monuments or public lands. Have you down for #227.
