This week’s Foto Friday Fun features images chosen by seven readers from my photo files including several shots of monsoon at Grand Canyon which I hope portends monsoon’s arrival.
Mary Lou chose #6578. I would caption this shot of the turkey vulture, “Go ahead, make my day!” Because of a cross-stitch project I did of this kind of image and that saying as a present for a retiring college professor. Don’t ask me any more than that.
Diane and Nigel chose #7779. Warthogs really get a bad rap and are interesting to watch their family dynamics. I saw so many warthogs in Addo Elephant National Park on my first visit I was sure South African National Parks had misnamed the place.
Jodee and Bill chose #2626. Everybody has seen photos of Grand Canyon under clear blue skies but the canyon is most mysterious when inversion of clouds settles in. Slipping in and out around temples and buttes reveals islands in this sea of mist. This special treat occurred during Gayle and Jim’s visit last June.
Sherry and David chose #6816. Another inversion from Cape Royal of the shrouded Wotan’s Throne taken 8o-13-14. Can you see why I love monsoon.
Patti chose #8629. Yet another view of low clouds, this time near sunset over Transept Canyon through my RV windows on 9-27-14. A little soft and blurry but I like it. Ah, the many moods of Grand Canyon.
John and Pam chose #2841. The absolute winner of the day spent with Gayle and Jim as we all experienced our first glory standing on Angels Window at Cape Royal. The glory of Grand Canyon.
Donna chose #97. A diorama of chachkies in my old 5th-wheel where I actually had more space to display stuff than the newer bigger unit. Think of the dust as velvet. Unfortunately the perfume bottles and fabulous egg where in my storage shed and burned in the Yarnell Fire. Lots of sad loss but for me just stuff and I’ve accepted lightening my lode.
My choice is a first try at photographing the Milky Way taken from the Grand Lodge. You can see the lights on the South Rim and the string of red lights from the Perrin Ranch Wind farm beyond. Next month during new moon I’d like to try again.
If you’re reading, commenting or just following along please join in for next week by leaving a number between 1 and 9999 in your comment below. A big thanks to everyone for playing along with Foto Friday Fun and allowing me to share these photographs and memories.
Do you have a favorite this week? For me it’s a toss up between the glory and Milky Way at Grand Canyon.
Hello, Gaelyn – Thanks for the wonderful photos that bring back fond memories of the Rim. Your really did a good job on capturing the Milky Way with Sagittarius nicely outlined, a number of Messier objects clearly visible, and the Perrin Ranch Wind Farm lights strung out close to the horizon. You are so lucky to be at the right place and at the right time to capture the Glory out on Cape Royal. The only time I’ve seen glories were out the window of an aircraft when we were flying up to Alaska years ago.
6661 for next week please. Love warthogs and the way they run with tails standing to attention :-). I see my previous comment disappeared, but the lay out was all strange so now all is well. Love the photo standing on Angels Window at Cape Royal, magical. Your milky way is amazing, wish I could take shots like that. I did finally master a few reasonable firework shots last light finally, but the sky!!!!! Take care and best wishes to Bill, Diane and Nigel
I deleted the wonky one and reposted. Your fireworks shots are amazing. Of course I haven’t seen fireworks in a long time. Milky Way wasn’t too hard with a tripod.
Next week I choose #137
Have you down for #137.
The Milky Way photo is great! Hope you have continued success with efforts, so stunning when it works, I end up with star trails and no definition – does your tripod mount have tracking ability?
Thanks Jeff. I don’t particularly care for the star trails look. No tracking, just a long exposure on the tripod.
Hands down even though the other photos are great, the Milky Way is my favorite. So many people can’t even see it, let alone photograph it. Great job. I’d like 9302 for next time please.
Thanks Sherry. I’ve had visitors ask what that light stripe in the sky is because they’ve never seen the Milky Way. Have you down for #9302.
This week really flew by! I always love spending time in cloudy, foggy places – it is such a magical feeling. One you captured beautifully in those first few photos. Clouds make the sky so much more interesting – as do those amazing stars!! What a great pic of the Milky Way.
Thanks Jodee. When I’m working it seems like all weeks fly by. Have you down for #6681.
Dang it. I was getting so good 🙂 6681 for next week please.
My favorites this week are the same as yours- spectacular! Please put me down for 7166 for next week.
Thanks Mary Lou. Have you down for #7166.
Love, love my photo choice this week! That is an awesome shot, Gaelyn!
#5289
The sighting of the glory was awesome. I got lucky on the shot. Have you down for #5289.
I love my photo, it as a wispy feel to it! 🙂
Next week I’m thinking of a low number, way back in your files. How about #38?
Thanks Patti. More like blurry but I like it too. I love the low numbers so 38 it is.
