This week’s Foto Friday Fun features eight images chosen by readers and includes a lot of Arizona with a bit of South Africa thrown in. Thanks for the memories.
Teri chose #1313. A bad back shot of a brilliant Red Bishop who was surveying the lake in Kruger National Park, South Africa during February 2013. Going on safari is about more than just the big animals and many of the birds look quite exotic compared to those seen at home.
Diane chose #7773. The drive up onto the Kaibab Plateau to the North Rim Grand Canyon on SR67 passes through what’s left from the 2006 Warm Fire. Although sad to see so many acres of singed forest life returns slowly and provides some excellent views east over the Marble Plateau to the rising Vermilion Cliffs of the Paria Plateau and beyond barely seen in the distance Navajo Mountain. There’s a slow traffic turnout where I often stop to admire this view like in August 2015 for this shot.
Jodee chose #356 a most glorious sunrise taken from snug in my sleeping bag looking out of the tent at Toroweap in 2012. Even in October the days warm quickly so it’s one of those times I see a sunrise and try to get to the rim quickly for the iconic view then back to shade until the golden hour before sunset. A gorgeous yet unforgiving place.
Mary Lou chose #1278. Can’t help but smile when driving through Fredonia, Arizona on SR89 past Judds, who seems to sell all of the most important stuff.
Donna chose #17. A very tough choice out of 1000s from when my photo numbering system was different, plus all the time I spent reminiscing over some older photos. Including this perhaps confusing collage of life’s possessions from Darlene’s dead motorhome to fill all but the front seven feet in my 27 foot motorhome, from floor to ceiling. We moved from Yucca Valley, California to Vicksburg, Arizona limping into a fleamarket where Darlene had bought a small travel trailer and we would set up to sell. New Year’s Eve, 2002.
Sallie chose #1702. A common sight in Grand Canyon during July monsoon in 2013. Storm clouds seem to just drift in and out of the canyon sometimes swirling around temples of rock.
Sherry chose #1916. As if the brilliant earth tones of Grand Canyon isn’t enough when fall visits the North Rim the Quaking Aspen steal the show. These young trees have taken over after the 2000 Outlet Fire left a barren hillside.
Yogi chose #4933, “The Friday closing West Texas Intermediate crude price.” Hope you don’t consider this photo ‘crude’ but lions do like to mark their territory. She may have been notifying the elephants who left dung behind of her cubs presence. That’s what happened at Kruger National Park, South Africa during February, 2014.
My choice this week, Wotan’s Throne taken 5/29 from Cape Royal overlook on my Friday of roving on the Walhalla Plateau. A favorite office view for this Grand Canyon Park Ranger. 🙂
Please join in for next week by leaving a number between 1 and 9999 in your comment below. A big thanks to everyone for playing along with Foto Friday Fun and allowing me to share these photographs and memories.
Do you have a favorite this week?
Such intetesting photos this week. Wotan’s throne and the sunrise are superb! Lions doing anything in the wild seen in person is well….fabulous. Yes, the important things in the west and south. Says s lot about us. 2002 sounds like a rough year for Darlene. I’d like 8462 for next time please.
Thanks Sherry. Even when things are down Darlene is always up and positive. I’ve tried to learn from her about that. Have you down for #8462.
Enjoyed all of this week’s photos especially those of the Grand Canyon. Your office view is amazing! Please put me down for 7336 for next week.
Thanks Mary Lou. My office view is amazing! Have you down for #7336.
Very different mix of photos this week. Wow! I quickly we forget how high fuel prices use to be!! Love the beautiful brilliant yellow aspen against the char:)
How did I miss last week or forget to pick a number!! I was having computer connectivity issues last week, so I was probably in one of my very frustrated moments.
#9922
Was thinking the same thing. Sure glad those fuel prices have come down. I understand the connection frustrations. Think I’ve solved that problem now. Have you down for #9922.
How about photo #4116 for next week’s photo fun?
It is my Mom’s home address. Thanks!
-Rick, West Texas
Have you down for #4116 Rick.
Love red bishops, one bird I miss here. Great series of photos, it is amazing how nature eventually recovers after large fires sweep the countryside. 7774 for next week please but I hope if all goes as planned we will be winging our way in your direction! I may take a while to catch up. Diane
Thanks Diane. I too hope you’re “winging” your way west. Have you down for #7774.
Great photos, I marveled at your packed trailer. I am glad you explained or I would have called you a hoarder! My next number is 6500 because, well just because.
Thanks Yogi. That was quite the accomplishment to get all Darlene’s stuff in my motorhome. Hard to be a hoarder in a RV. Have you down for #6500.
For next week I choose #37
Have you down for #37.
Oh I love that sunrise!!! Beauty and barren terrain are such an amazing view. Hard to believe we ever got “used to” those high fuel prices – the sign is funny, or scary 🙂 The Throne is magnificent. 743 for next week please.
Toroweap is an amazing place to see sunrise and set plus the Colorado River 3000 feet below the Esplande. Thank goodness for travelers the fuel prices are now lower. Have you down for #743.
