This week’s Foto Friday Fun features images chosen by eight readers from my photo files and includes photos from the mountains to the sea.
Mary Lou chose #4214, a drive by shot of Hogsback Pass in South Africa. Although I love the desert, mountains call my name with their hidden crooks and crannies often buried in the forest. This unexpected side trip to Hogsback was filled with magic plus the local Samango monkeys put on an unexpected show for me.
Sherry chose #9994. What a coincidence that two photos with this number and almost the same view, first in fall 2014 and second in spring 2015. My view across Transept Canyon to the Widforss Plateau from the RV changes with the seasons.
The Guy Who Flies chose #6029. A wonderful drive through Grand Staircase-Escalante provides views up towards Bryce Canyon National Park and access to several hiking options.
Pam chose #3538. As mentioned before I am attracted to mountains and during my 2013 journey in South Africa I often went out of my way to drive over mountain passes. Next to Swartberg, I’d have to say that Bain’s Kloof was my second favorite. Maybe because it’s named after Thomas Bain, the man responsible for engineering many of these passes during the 1800s.
Diane chose #7009. Water is such a special gift in the desert and makes me really appreciate the struggle for plant and animal life. This unidentified plant was seen along the Barker Dam trail in Joshua Tree National Park during March, 2015.
Shane chose #7508. The bird hide in camp at Addo Elephant National Park offers an opportunity to see the animals up close and from a different perspective than our truck. Many animals come in to the nearby waterhole like these zebras.
Jodee chose #5567. I don’t see that many sunrises, except when in South Africa. On this morning in February 2014, Joan and I had camped at the Scottburgh Caravan Park right on the Indian Ocean and I stood on the beach in awe of the new day, taking hundreds of photos.
Yogi chose #0625, finally a lower number so a little further back in time. When monsoon storms come to Grand Canyon they often leave a rainbow gift. This sighting is over Roaring Springs Canyon from the North Rim on September 11, 2011. Not sure if that’s a smudge on the lens or smoke from a fire.
My choice was taken last week during the drive to St. George, UT for groceries. This section of UT389 descending into Hurricane Valley shows the sharp contrast of the snowy Pine Valley Mountains.
Please join in for next week by leaving a number between 0001 and 9999 in your comment below. Thanks for playing along with Foto Friday Fun and allowing me to share these photographs and memories.
Do you have a favorite this week?
What an unusual pick for the day with only one animal shot! Love all of it.
Thanks Arija. Hope you are well.
Wow, what a wonderful selection of pictures this week. I was happy with my choice but then to see the ones later was fabulous. I loved the zebras, rainbow, snow and summer plus coastal scenes and the unidentified plant.
It must be great fun going through your photo archives each week 🙂
I think I’ll go for number 2037 this week please.
Thanks. I do love to see these old photos pop up. Have you down for #2037.
OMW Gaelyn, I loved the first photo of Hogsback area – we enjoyed riding those beautiful mountain roads on the motorbike. And the beautiful Scottburgh on then South Coast of South Africa. But the photo which blew me away was the view of St Georges! Grocery shopping isn’t a chore if you get your fill of that view. Thanks for sharing all these images. Blessings and hugs Jo
I’d go back to Hogsback in a flash. So much more to explore there.
Love all your amazing photos
2005 for me.
Thanks. Have you down for #2005.
Enjoyed all the photos especially my pick. Please put me down for 0798. Thanks for sharing your beautiful photos.
Thank you Mary Lou. Have you down for #0798.
I continue to marvel at all your eyes have seen. I have been craving the ocean this week so am especially loving my pic this week – I could lose myself for hours in that view. The zebras are beautiful as are all the locations you’ve visited. I look forward to seeing #0148 next week.
If we hadn’t been heading someplace else I’d have stayed on the beach for a while. Have you down for #0148.
Love Sherry’s choice with the two seasons in the same location:) What a great contrast!
Another fun week pf photos:)
Let roll #0724
Thanks Pam. Have you down for #0724.
Yet another great selection, you do take some amazing shots and I had a look back at Hogsback as well. My comment there still stands 🙂 It amazes me how things survive in deserts, but plants, animals and insects seem to have a means of survival. A drop of rain after years of dry weather and they seem to appear as from nowhere. Have a good weekend Diane
Thanks Diane. We’re planning a trip to Death Valley next month and I’m crossing fingers/holding thumbs for a “Super bloom” due to all the winter rains there. Of course the lushness of Hogsback heavily contrasts with any desert.
Wow, I loooovvvve the photo you picked for me!
Lets play some limbo, I’ll go lower, how about 603 next week?
That was a lucky shot alright. Have you down for #603.
Here we go again. How can I choose between beautiful mountain views, zebras and rainbows. You do take such fantastic pictures. Love that I picked a number that had the same view in different seasons. How about 3984 for next week? Is this really the 149th time you’ve done this? That’s nearly 3 years.
Thank you so much for the compliment Sherry. I get luckier/better all the time I think. But then you’re no slouch at photography. That coincidence was just too good not to share. Hard to believe I’ve kept this going so long. But it’s because of you, and other readers too. Have you down for #3984.
I’ll choose 1299, my favorite is the drive to St. Georges.
I made the Chili Relleno casserole, loved it!
Glad you liked the recipe. Also glad the hour drive each way for shopping is so pretty. Have you down for #1299.
I scored with the zebra photo this week. Yogi’s rainbow shot is the winner, I think.
I learned two new terms from an older post of yours: beefalo and tourons. Beefalo made me chuckle but tourons had me laughing out loud. I’m always worried about acting like a touron. I suppose it’s inevitable.
#1568 this week, please.
I miss more rainbows than I catch, but they are all special. I learned ‘touron’ from a Yellowstone Ranger a long time ago. I am guilty also. Have you down for #1568.
Gosh, it’s hard to pick favorites, but I especially like the first two and the last one. Stunning. I’ve been absent a great deal…. For next week, I’ll choose 1026, since that’s the time right now!
Thanks, and welcome back. Have you down for #1026.
You had quite a mountain theme going on there for a while and I loved that (I miss mountains when we’re here in Flatland USA)…. That last picture of your ‘mundane’ trip to the grocery store is my favorite this time out of all the beautiful pictures. Just because it makes me think about what a wonderful country we have here — where a drive to get groceries can show this beauty. I don’t think I’d ever get tired of that drive ever.)
I could probably start playing again if you have room — I’d understand if you don’t since I haven’t been very regularly playing lately. If you do, I’ll choose 1960 in honor of my daughter’s birth year in this month! (How can I possibly have a daughter turning that age? It’s a regular miracle it is!)
I do love mountains. Gorgeous scenery makes any drive around here marvelous. You are always welcome to join in. Have you down for #1960.
