All I want for Christmas, or all other days of the year, is for people to live in harmony with each other and the Earth. Sounds a little cliché, but what can I say.
Bill has been asking me for months what I want for Christmas. I don’t feel like I need a thing, anything. Then I got to thinking, what to get him. Guess I’m not very good at Christmas gift giving. When I see something that calls a friends’ name and I buy it I have to give it right away. I’m an instant gratification person. Besides, I’m not much of a consumer and don’t really want to support a bunch of businesses cramming consumerism down my throat. I’m not trying to be a Scrooge. In fact I’m pretty much just trying to stay warm living in an RV at almost 5000 feet in southern Utah with temps at 50/22F. I’m sure you’ve heard me mention I don’t like to be cold and my tiny body looses heat easily.
Plus Bill is a desert rat not seeming to notice 100F during the desert summer and basks in the heat. And I’m not having any luck on what he wants for Christmas.
So……. I think we should give each other a winter experience, somewhere warm, exotic, after the first of the year, at least one week, looking for a deal and suggestions. Please tell me why we should go to this place you suggest. Have you been there? Know of a good deal?
Where should we go?
If we go where you suggest I’ll mail you a postcard.
Oh, and we may need a dog sitter.
I agree with you! So….
Catalina Island off of Ventura. Camp in the Scorpion Campground on Santa Cruz Island and go hiking around the island. Watch whale migration, little foxes and possibly find orcas!
That sounds interesting. What are the January temperatures like? Hike in shorts?
Sounds like a great idea, I’ve spent all my winters in TX – but maybe Arizona or an island somewhere. Are you flying? Or camping?
Done TX and it doesn’t excite me. Need something new. Flying, camping or not. Am open to ideas.
Hi Neighbor Lake Havasu Az area..lot’s of BLM land to park and hike ..if Your taking the truck camper. Look no further than out Your window for a dog sitter..I’d be happy to watch Shasa for a week. 🙂
I do like that area but it’s not warm enough. Thanks for the sitting offer.
How about walking on the Inca Trail to Machu Picchu! I could though not agree more, if only the people of this world could live in harmony and also with earth and animals, nothing would be better than that for everyone. Have a good weekend Diane
I like that idea but was thinking of something a little more relaxing than that trail.
Costa Rica!
San José average High/Low in Jan 79/64, dry season. Lots of National Parks with lots of different birds, trees and plant species, or you can visit the San José Zoo and see most of those same things. The The Museum of Pre-Columbian Gold is worth the trip if you see nothing else.
The Pacific Coast is not far away. Incofer operates tourist charter services on behalf of specialist holiday companies to go from San José to Limon. This is a great train ride that I did in the ’80s before the line was closed down for years. It has been reopened to freight but only charter passenger service apparently.
I like that idea Ed. And have thought of visiting Costa Rica before.
If I could think of a place, I might be there now! I am in Lake Havasu, still wearing fleece and suffering from severe Zion hiking withdrawal. But I am enjoying reading about others suggestions! Can’t wait to see what you decide…I vote with Ed. 😉
Sorry to hear it’s cold at Havasu also. So far, I like Ed’s idea best.
That’s exactly how I feel. I also buy presents that call out a friend’s name and give them asap.
For that reason, Christmas is a stress time for me, and it should not be. No closer-to-you exotic suggestions for you; but I read some good ones in the comments.
Christmas is for big business. Bill has some ideas I’m waiting to hear about.
We stopped giving things to each other a couple years ago, instead we plan experiences that we can enjoy together so I totally agree with your idea! If you do Costa Rica, remember that although warm, it rains a LOT. Still, we have friends there and hope to make the trip ourselves because it looks like a beautiful place. If Havasu is too cold, you probably need to get out of the states for what you’re looking for 🙂
I like the sound of Costa Rica, or maybe Hawaii. Don’t need any Things.
The big island of Hawaii. Just breathing the air is a gift in itself. A great deal of diversity from volcanoes to rain forests to lava desert. Rise early and take a boat out to watch the hot lava hit the water, whale watch, drive the road to Hana and walk through the lava tubes. It’s an amazing island and doesn’t feel overwhelmed with tourists. Lovely beaches! And, no leaving the country travel hassles. Aloha!
I like this idea. Never been to Hawaii.
I have that same problem about not having a clue what I want for Christmas because I don’t need a thing if I can’t have David’s health back. That’s what I’d really like. I have learned to curb my instant gratification at least as it pertains to things I see and buy for others. I do save those for the holidays so I don’t have to wonder what to give them. Do you want to take a car/truck trip or an RV trip for the winter?
I would ask for David’s health back over anything else. Could be truck camper trip.
