Finally, time to do long put off chores, unpack at least a few chachkies, get ready for holiday visits, and most of all GET OUT AND PLAY, HIKE, LIVE!!! Enjoy my part-time retirement!
After a month of RV trials and tribulations I parked in Kanab November 14th only to discover no hot water. Actually there was a 10 gallon tank full of hot water but it wouldn’t flow out the faucets. Three days later I called a local service shop and they sent out a repair man. Valves needed replacing, connectors tightened and an unidentifiable little piece of plastic where the hot water flows out of the water heater’s tank obstructing the flow removed. Plus the anode tube is shot, lots of crap came out of the tank, and no replacements in town. Southwest water is high alkali, minerals build up. On top of that, a water pipe break in the RV park had the main water off most of the afternoon. The repair man left and came back after it was back on. Finally, I have hot running water. Little things make me happy.
Winterized the water hose with heat tape and foam wrap. That usually does the trick unless the temps get below 0.
Emptied the basement completely as it seems some rodents left their poops. Is that how they were getting in? Funny how when the stuff goes back in it seems to take up less room. Must have done something right there.
Trail in middle of talus slope
Crazy Horse RV Park, where I’m living, from K-Hill trailhead
Discovered the 1.25 mile K-Hill Trail which wraps around Savage Point below the large “K” for Kanab. It connects with Tom’s Canyon and Cliffs trails for another couple miles one way. Unfortunately there was a biting wind that day so we’ll have to go back. Plus it’s dog friendly.
Sunday Bill and I took a ride to the North Rim. Had a need to see it once more this year before the North Rim closes the end of November. Was nice to see some snow on the way.
Still need to go thru closets, it’s an annual affair. Find clothes that haven’t been worn or are just worn out. I do love how much storage and closet space this RV has but it seems to mean I need to fill it all. When will I learn?
No shopping on Black Friday. But unfortunately won’t be getting outside much either. Instead will be driving back from Spanish Fork where I’ll be spending Thanksgiving with Bill’s family.
Plans for the winter
Ideas aplenty. First need to get the camper back on the truck. It’s always such a chore getting it lined up just right. Due to the 5th-wheel hitch bracket bolted into the bed of the truck I had boards down, a 2×4 on its side running down both sides the length of the bed and 3-4x4s crosswise. But things shifted and some buckling occurred noticeable inside the camper. Need to try something a little different this time.
I’d like to return to Anza-Borrego with Bill at some point this winter but rules have changed were I stayed last year. Valley of Fire isn’t too far away. Bill wants to return to San Juan County, if we can stay warm enough.
Quartzsite, probably January when many I know are there during the big RV show. Too many really. Sort of crowded but worth it to visit. Anybody heard when the 2nd annual Blogger-fest will be?
So now it’s finally time to go and stuff ourselves and be thankful for who and what we have in our lives. Thank you for being part of mine. Life is good! Happy Thanksgiving!
Gaelyn that last photos is just superb but I am now looking more than ever at photos of the North Rim :-)) Have a great Thanksgiving with Bill’s family. Take care Diane
Thanks Diane. I’ll keep teasing you with a few more canyon shots.
We’ve been doing major cleaning out of closets and storage bins, too. So far have thrown out 2 big bags of junk, and took 4 big bags to Goodwill.
How nice you’re spending Thanksgiving with Bill and family. Enjoy!
That’s next. Can’t believe how much junk I collect over a year.
Happy Thanksgiving!
There is nothing better than ‘time to do. . .’ I seem to be perfecting the doing very little part of that. Love your post and your plans. Happy Thanksgiving to you~
Sometimes “doing very little” is OK. Thanks. Happy Thanksgiving!
Love the “getting done” part of all that! Funny how an empty bin can seem like a whole new beginning 🙂 Wonderful pics, love the teaser of the canyon with its pretty snow. As it looks like Jeri (or does she spell it Geri?) is in FL for the winter so I’m not sure who is (or if) organizing a blogger-fest this year. We’ll be there the second week in January.
Sure felt good to get most of my “to do” list done. Guess I’ll be around Q also the second week in January to visit with a group of friends.
Glad you are getting things all straightened out. Have a wonderful Thanksgiving day.
Hope you had a lovely Thanksgiving.
Visit the animal shelter when in Kanab!
I’ve been to Best Friends before and right now am not in the market for a pet so will be staying away.
Happy Thanksgiving! Glad you had the water fiasco fixed. What a nightmare! No hot water in the cold weather would drive me nuts. And rodent poo…..:) Go I’m glad it’s all fixed. Whatever you decide to do, I’m sure it’s going to be fun. It’s funny how all the home stuff takes up a lot of time from all of the fun stuff. And be thankful that you have an RV to remind you how much stuff you really need:) I went on a garbage binge last weekend and spent the whole day Saturday throwing crap out. And there’s still more of it!!!! Love you much. Have fun and enjoy your weekend!
I am very glad I don’t have any more room to collect stuff. Where does it all come from? Hope you had a lovely Thanksgiving. It’s snowing in Kanab. Yuk! Hugs to you and Michael.
Maintenance is such a headache.
0 degrees!!!! Time to head south, way south.
I hope that you had a good Thanksgiving.
Home repairs are a drag mobile or not. It’s currently snowing in Kanab. Yuk!!! Hope you had a lovely Thanksgiving.
