This week’s Foto Friday Fun features 7 images chosen by readers from my photo archives. Our meme number for this week is 7777. Please link in any day this week by digging into your archives and sharing a photo and story on your blog. Plus check out the other posts linked to the Foto Friday Fun meme.
Sherry chose #7777, one of 1000s of sunsets over the Weaver Mountains, my RV view when parked in Yarnell, Arizona during the winter. Can one ever see too many sunsets? Her image is one of four in a panorama, thus you get them both.
Melissa chose #611. While on safari in Kruger National Park South Africa the frequent view of animals was them walking away but I take photos anyway and even posted about butt shots. I think elephants look great from any angle.
Diane chose #0307. From the Pilanesberg Game Reserve where she spent time in the past, this giraffe was really getting into the salt lick that is near a restaurant in the park which allows for very close viewing.
Shane chose #5496. I don’t see all that many sunrises, but what better than over the Indian Ocean where we camped along the coast at Scottburgh Caravan Park, South Africa. I took 100s of photos because it was just so darn gorgeous.
Yogi chose #130, “because that is how many pics I took in Hawaii with my other camera.” Last week his choice was 465 from the first camera. As I’ve never been to Hawaii I’m looking forward to seeing these photos. Almost as much as I’d like to see a cougar, which this tracking collar is from. During training at Grand Canyon in 2012 a wildlife biologist showed staff an old cougar kill site which looked like a depression filled with mule deer fur and talked about tracking the five collared cats on the North Rim. I’m still waiting to see my first cougar at the canyon.
Elaine chose #2715. The male zebra keeps a lookout while the female and youngster behind her graze at Mountain Zebra National Park, South Africa. Such stately creatures.
Sallie chose #5127. I think hyenas are cute and get a bad rap. This young pup was seen waiting for Mom to return at Kruger National Park, South Africa.
My choice this week hiking the Bunting Trail with Bill Thursday in Kanab, Utah. More about that next week.

Do you have a favorite from this week?
I simply loved the baby hyena. They, and wild dogs are also my favorite animals and yes, they get bad press. You taught me something about SA wildlife, Gaelyn: I never thought to see a giraffe enjoying a salt lick. Amazing. Blessing and hugs, Jo
I had mixed feelings about the salt lick. Obviously it pulled animals in close along with a small dam. But the animals would go crazy licking it then make funny faces and stick out their tongues. They were also very aggressive around it. Didn’t seem natural.
That hyena is adorable. Much cuter than your condor babies!
I think so too.
I am laughing at “my” hyena! (Sorry couldn’t resist; he really is kind of cute!) Lots of wonderful Animals from SA and ending with some beauty from where you are now; it is a charmed life you lead! (But you work hard for it and you deserve every beautiful photo op that comes your way.) Thanks for sharing them. Next Friday we will only have 6 more days to get the Canal Cottage closed up for the season. So I’ll choose 6.
I wonder if you were laughing like a hyena. 😉 So the count down is on. Have you down for #6.
Love my shot of the giraffe, such good memories of Pilanesberg. Also love the sunrise and the hyena. Connection here not very good. 0407 for next week please. Diane
You really keep lucking out with Pilanesberg. Connection here not very good either. Have you down for #0407.
Well these are all winners. Love sunrises, love sunsets and plan to do both in celebration of the Summer Solstice tonight and tomorrow. Absolutely adore elephants and giraffes and baby animals of any sort. Even the thought of seeing a mountain lion thrills me. There is a constant argument about whether they are here in Virginia or not. Many people say they have seen them, many scientists say nope. But there is a great book written about the whole thing by Chris Bolgiano called The Easter Couger. Linda Hogan wrote a wonderful one about the panther in Florida called Power. Both are wonderful. And I’ll take 877 for next week.
Thanks for reminding me about Solstice. I get so busy with work I forget about the important celebrations. Which also includes Happy Father’s Day to David. Have only seen a Mt Lion in the wild once and that was a quick run across the road. I want to believe they are in Virginia. As an animal keeper I was honored to bump heads with a female cougar. Have you down for #877.
I feel so much better realizing that somebody else takes way to many (in some eyes not mine) pics of sunsets.
Great pics but I love the one you chose for me best. So interesting a collar and I am intrigued about a kill site.
How can we possibly take too many photos, especially of sunsets. We belong to the same club.
Unfortunately I didn’t take a photo of the kill site but don’t think it would have been too impressive. I’m still waiting to see a cougar here.
Have you down for #6666.
And I’m picking 6666 for next week.
Seeing a mountain lion in the wild tops my list of things I want to see. It used to be a bear but I saw a couple of black bears two years ago on separate trips to the Sierras. Few things compare to seeing wildlife in the wild in my book. I can only imagine what it must have been like for you on your Africa trips.
#3448 for me this week, please.
I saw a cougar once cross the road in front of me in WA. Was a thrill. Have seen black bears but not griz yet. The wildlife in South Africa is over the top amazing. Have you down for #3448.
