This week’s Foto Friday Fun features 10 images chosen by readers from my photo archives. Our meme number for this week is 0078. Please link in any day this week by digging into your archives and sharing a photo and story on your blog. Plus check out the other posts linked to the Foto Friday Fun meme.
Diane chose #0078 from last fall at the North Rim. Young aspen sprout up amongst the remains of trunks from the 2000 Outlet Fire. The remaining fir and pine will slowly reseed this hillside in the natural cycle of forest succession.
Ann chose #993, one of my favorite backyard walks into the Weaver Mountains before the 2013 Yarnell Hill Fire. The balancing granitic boulders remind me a lot of Joshua Tree National Park.
Shane chose #2710 from Mountain Zebra National Park, South Africa. While the young zebra suckles the male keeps watch. I feel honored to see such intimacy while on safari.
Lori Ann chose #24. Back in 2005 I met a man at a rock and gem show and later went with him up into the La Plata Mountains in Colorado on one of the wildest rides to the portal of the Bessie G Mine. Story he told was the original prospector dug all the way through the mountain and would hang a lantern on the eastern portal so his wife, Bessie, could see it from the widow walk on their house in Durango and know he’d arrived safely.
Sherry forgot her number this week so I chose #36 for the amount of words in her comment. While visiting San Felipe Mexico with Darlene back in 2005 our host drove us along a bumpy road to Puerto Cito where we soaked in hot springs at the edge of the Sea of Cortez. Have to time it right so the tide mixes with the thermal waters.
Cheryl chose #1515, the date and year. The date and year of this shot was October 29, 2011. As Halloween approached someone added an effigy to the scaffold at this crumbling movie set along the Johnson Canyon Road. Many old westerns were filmed in the area surrounding Kanab, Utah.
Sallie chose #9823, a leopard up a tree. Joan and I were out driving in Pilanesberg Game Reserve and a couple vehicles were stopped as they’d seen a leopard around but then it disappeared and the cars left. We kept looking and caught a couple glimpses in the tall grass before the leopard disappeared again. We drove ahead, turned around and were still looking in the grass when Joan caught sight of it up a tree. We had this beauty all to ourselves for quite a while.
Happy Birthday to Jodee today who chose #395. Her present is a Yarnell sunset through a crystal that hangs in my RV window. With imagination we could pretend the golden colors are candles on a birthday cake.
Yogi chose #68, a formation in Oregon Caves National Monument called the cowboy column. I think that’s appropriate for a guy from Oklahoma. To see more of the cave take a virtual tour from I worked there.
Barb chose #222, a sunset over Grand Canyon taken in October, 2011.
My choice was taken Wednesday on the drive into Snake Gulch. More about that camping trip soon.

Do you have a favorite from this week?
Your photos broaden my view of the world, and remind me there is more to view than just the beautiful things immediately around me. Thanks – – I woke up excited about the day, as usual, and your visuals just hyped it up more than a notch or two. Thanks .
Love you – – Have a GREAT day yourself – –
Berta
Thanks Berta. Have a great day in the kitchen.
Wow, I love my photo near Kanab, Utah. The thermal waters near San Felipe sound pretty amazing. I’d like to go someday…
How about #777 for next week? The number everyone wants to see on a slot machine! 😉
The SW has so much to offer. San Felipe was fun although very American ex-Pat. Have you down for #777.
The leopard of course is my favourite. It always has been the top of my list of wild animal favourites, followed possibly by wild dogs which I have very soft spot for.
Having said that I love the shot of the North Rim and it will be interesting to see how nature takes over and replaces what fire has removed.
Have a good week end. Diane 0079 for next week please, then Bond I think has run out of juice!
Although elephants are my favorite is is very special to see a leopard, and wild dogs too.
Considering the Outlet fire occurred in 2000 it’s growing back very well.
Have you, and Bond, down for #0079.
Great photos all!! My favorite is the La Plata mounains. The photo is great but I love the story. I have a few miners, and cowboys, and fishermen in my family. They are all pretty good with the stories.
I’m upping it one to 69 for next week. Except I’ll be on vacation and won’t be checking in for the next two weeks so just make it 70 next week and 71 the following, and I’ll catch you on the flip flop.
The old stories are so fun and interesting.
Have a wonderful vacation. Have you down for #69, 70 & 71.
Yippee for my sunset photo at the GC! I like all the beautiful boulders in many of your photos. Hope your days are going well at the Canyon. I bet you’ll be busy this Memorial weekend. We just got back home but have a short trip planned again for next week. Gotta get out of the snow awhile!
We are just as busy on a holiday as any day we’re open. And today a couple inches of that white stuff fell.
My zebras are very cool. The ghost town and leopard photos are even better. Nice selection this week!
#8165 for me this week, please.
Thanks Shane. Have you down for #8165.
I saw an Iguana up a tree today in my real life. Somehow, the up-a-tree animal I just got virtually is a little bit more exciting. Thank you for giving me the beautiful leopard! Loving all the pictures as always;
We’ve been to San Felipe, too many years ago– and we had a tent-ful of teenagers along with us … I wish I could go back now and find those thermal waters.
Thank you Sallie.
I think seeing an Iguana is very cool.
Soaking in hot water at the edge of the Sea was divine.
Have you down for #6.
I forgot to choose a number. How about 6 for the number of people who were on that San Felipe trip that time.
I’m having a difficult time choosing my favorite this week… #993 caught my attention as I scrolled through, so that’s the one I’m going with!
I used to love to hike up the Weave Mts, before the fire.
