With over 250 entries the first Yarnell Car Show had almost more cars than town. The population of Yarnell at last census was about 800, after the 2013 fire destroyed over 100 homes the population is less. Downtown can’t be more than a couple miles long.
Scottsdale resident and firefighter Lance Parker loves Yarnell and classic cars so put the two together to raise funds for the Yarnell Hill Fire Memorial Park.
I have never seen so many people in town. I walked for about 3 hours, down one side of the main street and back up the other.
My Dad liked cars and worked his way from mechanic to Service Manager at a Cadillac dealership in the Chicago suburbs. He taught me quite a bit about repairs, when you could still fix cars yourself. A friend drove an El Camino and I remember that the doors weighed a ton. The owner of this one told me the door hinges had to be replaced often.
I just love hood ornaments. Now that I drive a Dodge guess it’s time to put a Ram on the hood, plus I’m an Aries.
I may not know the exact years or models but I do know these cars have personality and style. Today’s cars all look alike to me. But then I’m more into trucks.
If you drive too fast you’ll end up here
Dad used to take me cruising in his 1963 Corvette, until he blew the engine.
There was music keeping to the classic theme which fits right in with vintage Yarnell.
My all time favorite was the Hudson Hornet. Mom drove one in this same deep red.
Seems like the Yarnell Car Show was a huge success so hope it happens again next year.
Any of these bring back memories?
I love car shows and the best ones are those that feature the older cars. The Yarnell show looks like a good one. Plus it is outside where one can get good pics as you did.
I don’t usually go out of my way to visit car shows, but when it’s in your home town why not. Also not being used to taking photos of cars I was very happy with the results. Thanks.
Hi there – LOVE to photos – just like being there (sort of), was fun .
Hope all is going well – – I’m off to the comm ctr. soon – – Went to a drumming here in Glen Ilah last night – was well attended – – all the fire victims plus. was great.
Love you – Berta
It was a good showing. Don’t work too hard.
Boy David would have been in heaven at this show. How great that Yarnell and you had such a fun day. The music is definitely classic. She looks from the 30’s and he from the 50’s. I love the Willys and have never seen a Hudson Hornet. Whatever happened to Hudson and Studebaker? Bet they are worth a fortune now.
It really was a good showing. Don’t know what happened to Hudson and Studebaker. Hmmm, something to google. 😉
OH yeah! Those were real cars; you always could recognize friends and neighbors by what car they drove; they didn’t all look just the same. That rusty old 4 x 4 looks like one Bill and I used to drive (not in much better shape even back then)….just throw the babies in the back on top of some blankets so it was like a playpen and take off up the bumpiest old forest roads. Sometimes I think its a wonder we all survived really!
I am jealous of your 4×4 as it could take you almost anywhere. And what a great playpen. Those were the days when we didn’t worry about seat belts and kid chairs in a car. Dang if we didn’t survive.
Yep, I’m a truck girl myself. Learned to drive in a 1956 Ford pickup, 3-speed on the column. I should never have let my dad sell that baby! Love the trucks here and the old rock gas station is pretty fun too.
My first set of wheels was the riding lawn mower. Didn’t become a truck gal until later in life. Yarnell is full of funky rocky buildings.
