Well it’s that time of year again for moving the wheelestate from Yarnell back to the North Rim at Grand Canyon for the summer. As you know, I already dropped the truck camper at a friend’s in Kanab, Utah. Just can’t tow a 5th-wheel with a camper in the truck but sure am happy to have it for weekend summer play. I’m a two RV, one person family.
My biggest concern when I get ready to pack things up is getting the 5th-wheel hitch back into the truck because it is way too heavy for me, or most of the seniors around here, to lift. I got lucky this year as a neighbor brought his Kabota over and with a chain easily lifted the hitch into the back of the truck. Unfortunately I forgot to take photos.
So now the rest is up to me. Not too difficult a job to pack away a few chachkies and push a button to pull the slides in. No problem backing into the hitch as I can see it out the truck window. In fact, now that the driveway is wider I can even back the big beast out on my own. Well, I do have a few spotters so I don’t bump anything in the process.
Tuesday I’m heading to Flagstaff, like usual, to stop for a few days and stock up on groceries. The North Rim is 85 miles away from the nearest shopping in Kanab. But this year I’ll be staying at a different RV park than my usual Flagstaff KOA. A friend is parked at the Kit Carson RV Park on the west edge of town so I’m going to give this place a try and will let you know what I think.
So I’m going from this view…
…to this view. Guess I should clean the windows.
Hopefully not this view from last year 4-27-14
I’m excited about returning for my 8th summer season at the Grand Canyon and look forward to sharing many stories and photos of my summer adventures. Are you coming for a visit?
Good to read your driveway is better 🙂
I hope you have smooth travel days and a good season at the Canyon…
Thanks I’m sure I will. And hopefully no problems getting the beast out of the driveway this year.
Lookin’ good – I hope to get over to see you this summer. It’s been a long time since I’ve been to the Grand Canyon. Is there still that good café at Jacob’s Lake?
I’d love to have you visit. Yes, the cookies and cafe are still at Jacob’s Lake.
I love that you are a one person two RV family. Sadly, even with two homes I don’t think that puts you in the 1%. How I wish wish wish I could run away to the canyon and stay. I’ll be enjoying it with you again instead of in person.
Only the bottom 1%. Hang in there. I’ll share and get you to the canyon in your mind.
I don’t think we are coming your way this summer. Our son got a new job up near Fresno, so I believe we have some Yosemite trips planned! 🙂

Hey, if you can’t get to the Grand Canyon Yosemite is a wonderful second choice. I look forward to pics from there as I’ve only been once, briefly.
Ah, familiar sights… Don’t like the snow, though. If and when I ever go to BRyce, we’ll meet somewhere.
Darn straight we will.
You have had a very interesting winter! Now back to work at the Grandest Canyon of them all! Happy Trails!
It was an awesome winter and will be an even more awesome summer.
Well, I will miss having you close. I’m off to help in the kitchen this Monday, and you leave in the morning – – Glad you are excited about this next six month adventure – – May they be the best ever.
Love you, Berta
Will miss you being so close also. Guess once you’re settled in you’ll just have to come for a visit.
Hi Miss G,
Safe travels and have a great season at the NR. We stayed at kit Carson once. Remember it as treed and OK for overnight.
Found the virtual tour of your new, well almost, trailer. All we can say is WOW! What a great new home.
Have a terrific season. We live ok forward to more stories of the NR. Say hi to our old friends for us.

I love my big wheelestate, and my little one too.
I will certainly say hi to all on the NR and post pics regularly. Wish you’d come for a visit. Or back to work. 😉
That was look forward to stories. Gees need more coffee!!!
Travel safely. Hope to see you this summer.
Thanks. I hope to see you at the canyon this summer. Be well.
Sounds exciting!
Hey, when you DO get your hitch up….and you DO remember to take pics this time 🙂 How about posting them here?
🙂
Can’t believe it’s already that time, Gaelyn! We are having snow and more snow, so I’m hoping the Grand Canyon isn’t also having unsettled weather patterns. Wherever you camp, the view is gorgeous! Safe trip.
This winter just flew past and created many wonderful memories. You know I’m not fond of cold and snow but I hope the canyon gets more snow as the land so desperately needs it. If you hear teeth chattering….
I wish! Gosh your winter went by in a hurry. You always have fun and make the most of it though. Well, you do that in the summer too — it’s lovely that you are looking forward to going back to work. You are fortunate.
Only because I have the best job in the world. Life’s too short not to have fun while we’re here. You practice that.
We really enjoy reading about your time at the North Rim and hope to be able to revisit it soon. Have a fabulous summer!
Thank you, I love to share the North Rim. Let me know when you’re coming for a visit.
Oh, I’d be a nervous wreck pulling a rig like yours. I guess that you get used to it after a while.
Towing it is the easy part. Just have to make wide corners.
Hope you get help hitching up, Even something light can often be a problem. Nigel caught his thumb between the trailer and the tow hitch a couple of years back, his thumb has never been the same since! Looking forward to seeing the canyon through your eyes again. Take care Diane
Help would be nice but I seem to usually do this alone. I’ll be careful.
Safe travels. Hope to maybe see you sometime this Summer.
Thanks. That would be great.
We love the canyon, have been twice. Not sure we’ll make it there this year but never say never! Good luck with getting set up again and starting the season. Do you rotate through different positions at the canyon?
Well I made it to Flagstaff for a few days. My schedule is varied every day, but I am always an Interpretive Ranger on the North Rim.
Moving that beast isn’t for anybody. Pity you can’t take the camper with
I’ll be picking up the truckcamper in a couple of weeks so I have it to play with all summer.
