OK, it’s my birthday. Big deal? To me it is.
Birthdays have always been a milestone for me. I believe it’s MY day—and of course my parents but they are gone so I will honor them. I’ve made it a policy not to work, at least for anybody but myself, on March 26th. I broke the rule once and had fun anyway. Even quit a job with a two week notice because they wouldn’t give me the day off. Can I help it my birthday fell on Easter that year.
Funny thing is 10 years ago my dear friends Berta and Darlene took me to, and gave me, the Grand Canyon for my birthday. I stood on the South Rim for the first time and said, “I’m going to work here someday.” Three years later I became a North Rim Park Ranger.
This year another friend, Sandee from my high school days, happened to be in Flagstaff so I drove up to meet her and Wednesday, the day before my birthday, we went to the South Rim. Then, because it’s Spring Break and the campground is full, we drove south of the park and camped in the forest.
Think I’ll go back to the South Rim tomorrow after Sandee heads off towards a marathon in San Francisco, because I can, and it’s my birthday.
Happy birthday. Wishing you a beautiful day. A day at the Grand Canyon—what a wonderful gift!!
Thanks Cheri. The canyon is a gift to the world.
Sorry we didn’t’ get together over winter – I was in Australia and New Zealand for 3 weeks and now am back at work. What kind of a truck camper do you have? It really looks neat.
Yay…Yay..Yay….you got there ! so glad…
Happy Happy birthday friend….
Thanks Kelly & Al. Hope all is going well with you both.
Happy Birthday! I often have to work on my birthday (Valentine’s Day) and restaurants are always too crowded, so we usually just eat at home! Enjoy your day! 🙂
Thanks Cheryl Ann. I’m glad my birthday only occasionally falls on a holiday.
HAPPY HAPPY BIRTHDAY GAELYN!! Your birthday is a big deal to me too since I’m so glad you were born and happy that I know it is your birthday without having to use facebook which I hate. I too always took my birthday off but you are the first other person who has ever proclaimed it as well. Great minds right? I think every company should give every employee the day off as an employee appreciation day. Your day sounds terrific! Enjoy! Enjoy! and Happy Birthday again!
Thanks Sherry. I believe you’re right about the great minds. 😉 Birthdays are everyone’s holiday. Or at least should be.
Happy Birthday brave girl! It certainly is YOUR day and its great to see that you honour your life on your special day. I think the Powers that Be must be pleased with their handiwork seeing what you have made of the life entrusted to you. Wish I could be there to give you a big hug. Consider yourself warmly hugged from a distance.
Thanks for the big hug Arija.
Happy Birthday. I love the Photos that you post
Thank you Carl. There will be more to come.
Enjoy your day to the fullest!
Thanks. I’m going to try.
Happy B-Day Gaelyn.
I have always had the same thoughts about “My” bay. My husbands company gives employee their birthday as a day off (actually his union sets official days off)
I think spending it in the “awe” of the G. Canyon would be a splendid.
I worked with a gal who would send her Mom flowers as a thank for having her, and found that very touching.
I saw one of your earlier posts with trays of beautifil SouthWest Native jewelry. Do you still have them. I have recently started collecting turquioise rings. I have one from
a guy you recommenred and its my favorite.
So enjoy all your photos.
Keep up the good work.
Happy Trails.
Rosemary
Thank you Rosemary. More companies should do that. And more people should honor their parents on their birthdays. Yes, I still have and collect SW jewelry. Love the stuff.
Don’t think there is a better place to celebrate a birthday than somewhere you love. I agree with you, you birthday is YOUR day and you should do something you enjoy. last year I had to drive to Cape Town on my birthday. I decided to make it a roadtrip and did Geocaches all the way with one of my best friends. Why? Because I could. A trip that would normally take 8 hours took us just short of 14 hours and the best part was when somewhere during the day my friend said, “Thanks for inviting me to your party.”
Happy birthday my friend. May there be many more.
Now that sounds like a great birthday, except for the lack of your family. Thanks Jonker.
Happy Birthday Gaelyn and here is wishing you many more of these days doing what you enjoy the best.
Be Safe!
It’s about time.
Thank you.
Happy Birthday! The Grand Canyon is a great place to celebrate.
Thanks Teri. I think so too, even if it’s the South Rim.
Wishing you a wonderful birthday, Gaelyn! So glad our paths crossed this winter in Anza Borrego!
Thanks Lynda. Me too, and may they cross again.
Happy Happy Happy Birthday – – You have the best of days from now on
Seeing you grow and expand and really ENJOY, has made me more aware of
enjoying my own days – one at a time. Love you
Berta
Thank you Berta. You’ve been a Huge part of my growth. May we continue to grow together.
Happy Birthday, Gaelyn! I agree, birthdays are days we treat ourselves to things that have special significance in our lives, and the Grand Canyon is certainly that for you! I always associate you with the GC, because of your wonderful posts and photos. I hope you have a wonderful day filled with joy and laughter.
Thank you Suzanne. I couldn’t be in better company than the Grand Canyon.
Hope you have a great day.Think you were with Joan last year if I remember rightly. I would love to see the Grand Canyon though as a birthday present….. One day maybe but I have my doubts.
Happy, happy birthday. Diane and Nigel xx
Thank You Diane and Nigel. I enjoyed a glorious day at the canyon. Will share photos soon. Yes, last year I was at Augrabies Falls with Joan. Wonder where we’ll be next year.
Very happy day at the Grand Canyon. Enjoy your day!
Thanks Kat. It was awesome!
Hope you are having a wonderful day!
I did. Thank you.
Happy Birthday Gaelynn, getting the Grand Canyon has a birthday present is a mighty nice gift. No way I can top that. Tell you what though you can have the Golden Gate Bridge. Not as nice but still not too shabby.
Now, you only get one birthday. I am getting 60 of them this year.
Totally not fair Yogi. I’ve been celebrating for several days but not 61. You can keep the bridge, but how about those giant trees up north of there. 😉 Thank you for being a friend.
Hope you’ve had a totally wonderful day! How could it be anything else since you spent it at the Canyon? Keep on celebrating for a while too–you deserve at least a birthday week, maybe a month. As for me, I think I’m done with the celebrating on my birthday, except for a quiet thank you when I wake up and I’m still kicking, however slow that may be. Love that last photo of the Canyon!
I soaked in the canyon with relish today making it the third day of celebration. Thank you Elaine for your kind words.
Happy Birthday dear blogging friend! You really know how to celebrate (and that decade-old gift was obviously the best one EVER!)
Thank you Sallie. Definitely one of my better birthday gifts.
A great way to treat yourself on your birthday! Have a great great birthday full of sun, friendship and love.
Thanks Therese, it was all of that and more.
Happy birthday, dearest Gaelyn. What an awesome place to spend your special day. I forgot you were near two of our grands. Yes, Eryn was seven years old when you came to SA the first time. Bethany a year old. And probably Debbie was already pregnant with Elijah! Have a wonderful and blessed year. (((Hugs))) Jo
Thanks for the birthday wish and introducing me to part of your beautiful family. Debbie was pregnant yet hiked up a ways with Eryn and Bethany in the rain to meet John and I returning on the trail.
Happy belated birthday, Gaelyn! I hope you had a great celebration.
Thank you Barb. I sure did, at the South Rim Grand Canyon.
