“On the road again. Just can’t wait to get on the road again.” I’m humming this in my head because even I don’t like to hear myself sing. I’m thinking when Willie Nelson wrote this in 1980 as the theme song for the film Honeysuckle Rose I wasn’t the only one who adopted it as my personal mantra.
Refrigerator replaced and repairs finished, for the time being. The temperatures have been holding in Yarnell with 70/40s but winter isn’t over yet. And neither am I done traveling. Been watching the weather and think Joshua Tree is doable at almost the same temps. Don’t want to be there when it’s hot anyway. Been a few years, OK almost 10 years, since I played in Joshua Tree National Park. And thus the poor quality of these old photos.
Really looking forward to some boulder climbing and perhaps a Ranger lead tour of the Keys Ranch. Plus hiking while I explore the geology and plant life in two deserts, the Colorado full of ocotillo and cholla, and the Mojave with extensive stands of the namesake tree. And of course take a lot of photos.
Used to sell at the nearby Yucca Valley Flea Market, so will have to see if that’s still going on. Not that I Need anything mind you. But I do love to look.
I ordered a new camp chair and sure hope it gets here soon. Then just need to finish up the laundry, shopping and packing and by early this week I should on the road again.
Sounds fun. I’m in need of another trip too. I’m going back to DC in September but that’s a long ways off.
Hope you don’t have to wait until September for a road trip.
we may pass each other, like RVs in the night 🙂
Except it will probably be daylight as us geezers don’t usually drive after dark. 😉
Take care and enjoy your travels. Diane
Gaelyn, we were just in JT yesterday. It was GORGEOUS up there…clear, blue sky, and I always love the rocks! Enjoy your time there.

Looking forward to it. Hope the weather holds.
Looking forward to seeing Joshua Tree through your eyes and to seeing your new camp chair. I just love how you’ve found the perfect way to travel around during the winters when you can’t go to Africa.
I used to travel like this every winter many years ago. Kinda missed it. Hopefully next winter I’ll return to South Africa.
I was thinking of you last night while listening to the news about the proposed development at the Canyon. I’m curious as to your thoughts, if you’d like to share.
Seems the Navajo board is all for this but the Navajo people aren’t very supportive. This development takes visitors very close to a couple of sacred places so the Hopi are also upset with the idea. It would be visible from a couple of overlooks on the North Rim. There has always been argument between the tribe and NPS about the park’s boundary line. NPS says it goes up to the rim, tribe says it’s in the middle of the river. Litigation could take long enough on this to squelch it. Guess I’d rather see the tribe build a casino away from the canyon to make money.
Just came across this Patti. http://www.grandcanyontrust.org/blog/grand-canyon-tram-scam-notes-nbc-news-story I really don’t think this development will happen.
Oh, goody – another trip to enjoy! Hope all the repairs hold and the camp chair is comfy!
Me too. I hope the camp chair arrives before I want to leave.
Happy trails! Joshua Tree sounds perfect, especially for your camper’s size. It’s getting quite hot here, with wind gusts, so we’ll be heading out in the morning.
It’s a higher elevation so looks like temps will be good. Those desert winds and dust get to me. Maybe that will settle down by the time I return there in a couple weeks. Safe travels.
On the road again, I’m glad to see you are getting the use of your camper.
I didn’t buy it to just sit in the driveway.
I’m glad you are on the go again. Our bad luck just don’t seem to stop and it seems I’m going to be without a car for a while. At least the insurance pay for a rental so hopefully I will have that before the end of the week until we can replace the stolen one. Looking forward to see Josua Tree.
So sorry to hear about your car being stolen and glad you have insurance to cover the rental and replacement. What an absolute drag.
Safe travels! You are heading to one of my favorite places in the world. I’ve heard it said that you either “get” Joshua Tree NP or you don’t. We do. We love it. We miss it. Enjoyed your retro photos ( they look like some of ours) and look forward to the new ones. Have fun.
Joshua Tree is where I “got it” about the beauty of deserts.
Happy Trails to you. Have fun and Enjoy.
I will if I ever get out of town. Don’t want to be in JOTR over the 3-day weekend.
