This week’s Foto Friday Fun features 7 images chosen by readers from my photo archives. Our meme number for this week is 888. Please link in any day this week by digging into your archives and sharing a photo and story on your blog. Plus check out the other posts linked to the Foto Friday Fun meme.
Sherry chose #888 because, “I’m into repeating….repeating…repeating…” And she gets a repeat showing of Wire Pass slot canyon which connects to Buckskin Gulch slot canyon, which I’ve repeatedly shared with her and is on her ‘list’.
Shane chose #4403, a family of hippos hanging out at the water’s edge just before sunset in Kruger National Park, South Africa. At dusk they usually haul their butts out of the water and spend the night eating.
Elaine chose #1116. These saguaros and Joshua trees grow in Congress, Arizona along Hwy 89 at the bottom of the Yarnell Hill. I live at the top of that hill.
Bibi chose #46, “the number of chromosomes a human body has.” She’s reading a book about that. I guess there’s no correlation to this stained glass window I was commissioned to make back in Hanover Park, IL when I lived there in 1981.
Diane chose #7007 which moves us up the road just a little from her last week’s choice. These are hops grown along the N12 north of George, South Africa.
Yogi chose #8930 which is one of my favorite locations for fall color along the edge of Harvey Meadow on the North Rim Grand Canyon National Park. Although this is not one of the best shots of fall colors from there.
Sallie chose #112 for the time when she posted. And this is from a time when I led cave tours at Oregon Caves National Monument. We called this ‘reversed star gazing’, a shelf our caving visitors rolled across, where we stopped and turned off our lights.
I’m still seeing some strange creatures in the desert.

Do you have a favorite from this week?
Did you see the video making the rounds on the internet yesterday about the hippo charging the boat underwater?
I would like to join from next week again and will start with my fav number 13
I saw it on FB but don’t have enough signal to watch. Isn’t that pretty rare?
Welcome back and have you down for #13.
That slot canyon sure is on my list. I love the hippos picture and the Yarnell Hill picture. Such great colors. Both pictures are just so sharp and alive for lack of a better word. You live at the TOP of that. Wow! I think I’ll have #4567 for next week please.
Thanks Sherry. I know you want to see the slot so pics will have to do until you get here. Yarnell is where the “Mountain air meets the desert breeze.” Have you down for #4567.
Nice hippos. It must be amazing to see animals like that in the wild.
#677 for me this week. 🙂
I am ecstatically happy when on safari seeing the animals in their natural environment.
Have you down for #677.
Very cool! You’re everywhere!:) The hippo charging isn’t abnormal. I think they get territorial and will chase a boater down. A bit scary! I think a lot of people get killed every year by these guys.
I have heard that hippos can be quite aggressive. But how fun it would be to see them from a boat.
Oh the hippo picture is just so wonderful… I would love to see them out in the real wild sometime (closest I probably ever will come is the Wildlife Safari in Oregon or San Diego; marginally better than a zoo, but ….
Don’t think I’d ever do that cave tour; I’d rather be standing on my feet — admire people who can do the crawling and rolling … and especially those of you who lead it!
And that sculpture is quite something; certainly placed in a way that almost seems it could be real.
Seeing any wildlife in the wild is the best, and you’ve seen some great animals along your journey.
Caving certainly is not for everybody. I love it and am glad I did it when I could.
No number this week?
Oh that caving is more than what I could do!! I’d love to see a field of hops. And hippos in the world.
I’m doing 5347 next week
Not into crawling into dark holes huh? I’ll bet you could get lost in a field of hops. Some very good micro type beers are made in South Africa. Have you down for #5347.
I have never seen hops growing in S. A. So this is new to me. A great selection of posts. Also love the odd animals you are seeing
I added a lot more to my comment but it appearscto have gone AWOL!!!!! I said sorry I was late but it has been a bit hectic here. Also gave my number as 1007. Take care Diane
Wonder what happens to the stray comments?
Hope your hectic is worked out. Have you down for #1007. Thank you for being part of my fun.
It’s the only place I’ve seen hops in SA. I wouldn’t have recognized them except for Joan. In the US they don’t grow so tall.
Will try to post soon on the odd animals. Been busy socializing in the desert.
