This week’s Foto Friday Fun is dedicated to my dear South African friend Joan. All these photos wouldn’t have been possible without her friendship and knowledge. Just before Christmas she was beaten and robbed while at the Eco-Center she’s been building up. I posted about this and asked for donations to replace the stolen laptop and other things. I watched through tears of joy as donations came in. Thank you for helping. I’ll transfer the funds after the weekend so you’ll still have time if you’d like to help.
Bibi chose #207 the time she made last week’s comment. The time is NOW to stop poaching and save rhinos like this pair I saw in Pilanesberg Game Reserve. You can help by donating to Travelers Building Change and be entered to WIN several awesome trips like to the Galapagos or an African safari amongst many other gifts. Please help SAVE #JustOneRhino.
Sherry chose #3795 and being a bird watcher should like this Yellow-billed stork at Kruger National Park. Joan and I watched for many minutes as it swept that long bill back and forth while kicking up possible food with its feet.
Sallie chose #4500, “Because it’s halfway or so in the numbers you gave us and because I have a bad cold I am feeling like I’m only halfway here. Or halfway human.” I hope she’s feeling better this week. There was nothing halfway about this magnificent Kruger specimen. This shot taken after watching him mate three times, the last about 10 feet off the fender. Joan told me they often mate in the road frequently over several days.
Shane chose #8100, my favorite animal. In Addo Elephant National Park Joan and I would sit for hours and watch one herd after another come to the waterhole. Their social structure is like no other showing respect, comradery and compassion.
Yogi chose #8416, “Because the first two numbers and second add up to a 100.” That is way over my head just like birds usually are. But while driving on the side of a mountain in Mountain Zebra National Park this hawk soared below.
My choice is from Augrabies Falls when Joan and I had to wade back to camp after a rainy hike. Thank goodness for warm temperatures, we were soaked. Yet we laughed all the way home.

Do you have a favorite from this week?
Love those elephants. Sorry to read about your friend, I hope yout effort to raise funds is successful.
#7035 for me, and Happy New Year!
Thank you Shane. I’ve collected enough for her to replace the stolen laptop. Have you down for #7035, which will also be next week’s number. Happy New Year!
Gaelyn, I feel as if I know Joan, because of you. I also follow her blog. I’m so sorry to hear that she was attacked and robbed and pray that she heals soon. Jo
Thank you for the donation Jo. Many know Joan who haven’t met her. She’s doing better every day.
No number for this week?
I am so happy to hear Joan is doing better but still appalled that someone would attack her. Is there any chance that person will be punished?? Or the poachers threatening the rhino in your wonderful picture?? I love every one of these wonderful amazing animals you saw and especially love that they are in the wild. I’d like # 350 please.
It’s unlikely this person will ever be caught.
South Africa works hard to stop poaching but it will require education where people think they need rhino horn, which is nothing more than the material in your fingernails.
Have you down for #350.
Happy New Year!
Good ones of your African animals friends and others. I especially like the one of (I guess it is Joan) the person wading through the water.
I’ll have # 38, the number of days left until my birthday. 🙂
Thanks Bibi, yes that’s Joan wading. Have you down for #38.
Happy New Year!
My favorite this week are the elephants. You have certainly have had some adventures. My number next week is 8317.
The elephants are always my favorite.
Have you down for #8317.
Happy New Year!
This is a great post. Sorry I must have missed a Friday. I feel like we could not be away at a worse time. See my comment on last post. Hopefully I will soon be back on my laptop and life will return to normality, what ever that is. 7000 for next week and I hope a lucky number for Joan. Take care Diane
Have you down for #7000. Safe journey home.

Berta
Days are sunny and warm, last night and tonight cold. Impressed by your sleeping so many hours. Must have been a good party.
Oh I’m so sad to hear about your dear friend. How heartbreaking. I somehow missed your earlier post about it and will scroll back. I adore those lions and seeing them do their thing must have been the most awesome experience…among the many you’ve had there in no small part due to your friend.
Gaelyn, you are the best friend I have ever had! I am overwhelmed by your kindness and compassion.
Thank you everyone for your concern and donations. It has given me a new lease on life and look forward now to the new year.
Hugs
