This week’s Foto Friday Fun features 8 images chosen by readers from my photo archives. Our meme number for this week is 1207. Please join in by digging into your archives and sharing a story. And check out the other posts linked to the Foto Friday Fun meme. It’s a randomly Fun way to share.
Sherry chose #1207, a place I’m sure she’d like to visit but not in Ruby. The Cottonwood Canyon road can be a challenge, especially under wet conditions. Roads are few and mostly in poor condition in the Grand Staircase Escalante National Monument. Yet with a jeep we explored along this creek filled canyon with towering sandstone cliffs and little side canyons.
Diane chose #1888 for a view of the Drakensburg Mountains during a 2010 hike in South Africa. I was thrilled to be backpacking into this majestic landscape with a bonus having John as a guide, son to fellow blogger Jo.
Sallie chose #02, “Cuz I’m earlier than usual in commenting.” Talk about getting comments, how could you not. Yet the “Big Q”, as some call Quartzsite, Arizona, is full of characters worthy of comment. In 2005 I was selling at a flea market in nearby Vicksburg and did a double take at this while visiting Q. And yes, there really is a bull sticking his head out the other window.
Elaine chose #56, a poor quality photo from my 1983 Grand Opening after buying the yarn shop in Tonasket, Washington. This gal demonstrated her art of hot spun glass, one of the many arts and crafts sold on consignment in the store. I practiced stained glass while learning to crochet and knit. Fun times.
Yogi had random dot org choose #6036. Although Tsitsikamma National Park offers plenty of hiking opportunities, a few I’ve followed, I seem to spend a lot of time just sitting and watching the waves. Plus whatever else flies into view.
Bibi chose #3630, “the amount of dinars I spent yesterday on meds for this blasted cold. (about $40)” She needs to get someplace warm like summer in Kruger National Park where I saw these Blacksmith Plovers and Egyptian Geese during my February 2014 visit to South Africa. Hope you’re feeling better.
Jonker chose #4567. Last week he helped me identify what I had called Meerkats in his back yard Addo Elephant National Park when they were actually Yellow Mongoose. Thank you. This week, I’m sure he gets two lions. A mated pair in fact. They were resting between time. And I have video to prove it.
Melissa also used random dot org to choose #1613. I think this particular view across Grand Canyon helps put distances in perspective. From the Widforss Trail on the North Rim the distant San Francisco Peaks stand over 60 miles away, the South Rim about 11 miles, the Deva Temple in the middle maybe 4 miles, Oza Butte to the right about 2 miles, and I live on top to the left. All guestimates as the raven flies. BTW, Widforss Trail is a spectacular 10 mile round trip hike to yet another view of the canyon.
My choice this week just didn’t seem to get into yesterday’s post about the Columbia River Gorge. I think these are Big Leaf Maple leaves. Makes a nice carpet.

Do you have a favorite from this week?
Capturing the present for future memories of the past
Great shots all and I like the Widfoss trail pic the best. Next week’s number for me is 1195 from random dot org.
Not the best running trail but beautiful none the less. Have you down for #1195, next weeks number.
Well these are one of the best collection of pictures we have all chosen. I just love every single one of them. Poor Ruby you are making me think about what to do to have a 4 wheel drive so I can go see these things you show me. Those Drakensburg Mountains are just gorgeous. I laughed out loud at that burro in the back seat. I’m not sure I’ve ever seen anything funnier than that. Did you really mean a bull as in male cow was sticking his head out the other window? Boy that man is taking a real chance. Hope he has diapers on those two. LOL Love the lions! Love the Grand Canyon always! Love the leaves!
Did it AGAIN! Hit send without my number. Let’s see how about 108??
Thanks Sherry. 4×4 is nice for getting to some locations. Yes, a male cow. Can’t even imagine what that rig must smell like. Have you down for #108.
I think I goofed and filled out the #1207 story box when I can’t access my photos….my big computer is being repaired and will be back tomorrow, if I fork over 5000 dinars, so let that be my number next week.
I like all your photos (and thanks for the warm birds one for me!), especially the yellow leaves one.
I’m on the mend, but am still eating chicken soup.
If you get your puter back and want to add a #1207 post later that’s cool. Or don’t worry about it. Just keep getting better and don’t drown in all that soup. Have you down for #5000 for next week.
I’m not sure if the Cutler Show is still on the road or not. The donkey was Bandit and the bull was Rowdy. You can see pictures and read about them by using this link. http://donkeyandbull.com/index.htm
Really a funny sight. I’d seen them before in Q but now haven’t been back in a long time. May be meeting friends there in January.
Love the Drakensberg, thanks for this one. Great set of photos though. I thought of you last night when I made a Malva pudding, think you said that you really liked them 🙂 Take care Diane
Ooops forgot 1777 for next week 🙂
Oops, have you down for #1777.
Thought you’d like to see the Draks. I LOVE Malva pudding. Guess I’m going to have to break down and bake.
I love ‘my’ photo because… Quartzite. Yeah, just like when we visited it, I’m speechless. But, well! Yeah, Quartzite! Gotta go there.
It’s never easy to pick a real favorite because your randomness is so much fun, every photo is fun… amazing scenery and animals (the reminder of that awesome lion ‘activity’ video,) , … your memories– even if it not the greatest picture it is fun getting to know you and what you did a ‘few’ years ago…. it’s all just as if we were having coffee together on our RV porch and after a while we know each other’s history!! You are so good at this. Love it.
Not choosing a number this week purposely because we will be on a plane heading to Colorado on Friday — and so after tomorrow I’m taking a blog-cation for a couple of weeks. (Spending a few days in CO and then on the Canal Cottage for the winter).
Everybody should see/experience Quartzsite at least once.
I’m glad you enjoy my photos and memories. I like to share the stories. Now if a few more bloggers would link in It would be like sitting around the campfire and swapping tales. Which I hope we get to do in real time.
Have fun in CO. I look forward to tales from the cottage.
The photo with the little donkey sticking his head out of the van window is hilarious. Definitely not something you see every day! 😉
Only in Quartzsite.
This week I really like the Grand Canyon view photo (are you surprised by this?) and then your choice purely because we don’t get much of that in our autumn. But for now we are going into summer. YAY!
I would like to choose #13 for next week. Just because its my fav number.
Of course you’d like the canyon view. I am jealous about your summer and wish I was there. Have you down for #13.
Great to see entries from Tsitsikamma, Addo, Drakenberg and Kruger in South Africa included in this post! The Drakensberg photo is particularly gorgeous and makes me want to leap into my hiking shoes right now
I would gladly join you for a hike in the Drakensberg. Thank you for dropping by.
