This week’s Foto Friday Fun features 6 images chosen by readers from my photo archives. Our meme number for this week is 633, chosen by the first commenter last week. Please join in with a post and link below with a #633 photo from your archives. And check out the other posts linked to the Foto Friday Fun meme.
Yogi chose #633 so that will be our photo index number for the week. For me that leads us to the sky for last April’s lunar eclipse. I actually managed to stay awake taking many photos of the first tetrad and put together a nice series of shots.
Bibi chose #1066, “the date of the Norman Conquest! English got, back then, over 10,000 words from French. Eh, oui.” In North America many of our words come from the local Natives language then skewed into an English translation. OK, what does that have to do with this Ranger dressed as the North Rim’s Kaibab squirrel? “Kaibab” is a Paiute word for mountain lying down, and the adopted name for the plateau and forest here. This Kaibab squirrely Ranger is our mascot.
Sherry chose #67 and as a park loving history buff traveling in the west I’m sorry she’s not going as far as Scotty’s Castle in Death Valley National Park. The Ranger led tour through this innovative dream in a desert was thorough and entertaining including the real owner’s wife Bessie Johnson’s bedroom. I love the desk drop over the bed idea and Native basket collection. Maybe next year Sherry?
Elaine chose #815, a white view like she’ll all too soon be seeing at her Alaska home, but without the canyon like I get through my RV/home window. Yet she’s currently seeing Sandhill cranes nearby so you should check that out. Thanks for linking in last week Elaine.
Diane chose #5551, and not to make her homesick but this brilliant sunrise was seen over the Indian Ocean at Scottburgh in South Africa. I was transfixed and took hundreds of images.
Catherine chose #13, “my favourite number!” One of the favorite interpretive programs I created was a living history tour of the Lodge at Oregon Caves National Monument. Wearing a wig over my long braids I played the part of a 73-year old composite character returning to a place of early employment and sharing stories from her past. When I pulled that wig off a lot of visitors were shocked.
My choice this week from July at Grand Canyon during monsoon season.

Do you have a favorite from this week?
Capturing the present for future memories of the past
Oh I love the squirrelly ranger and I LOVE the 73-year-old Gaelyn! My favourite photo is of the Scottburgh sunrise. I haven’t been there for about 40 years so thanks for sharing. I need to go back some posts and “learn” how to join your meme. Thanks for your heartfelt comments on my post about Toffee and also the compliments about the growing Hedges family. I also knew you would recognize the church in Graaff Reinet! (((Hugs))) Jo xxx
I love to bring you memories of SA. It’s easy to link in. Just like Sky Watch except I didn’t pay for images. That really is an awesome old church.
Uh-oh how do I check older posts? Or can you let me know how to take part in the meme, please Gaelyn?
Great photos, I love the South African ocean view. Very dramatic and vibrant.
I’m sorry I don’t have a post for this meme today. I decided to post about a local issue here in Tulsa.
My number for next week is 918 as that is the area code for Tulsa.
The Mall vs Turkey Mt is a very important issue.
Have you down for #918.
It’s fun to see all your photos and read the accompanying stories! You sure have done a lot of things and been a lot of places. I love that ocean shot and the one of-the Grand Canyon, of course. I like the story about you playing a composite character and then shocking everyone when you took off your wig! I liked learning that Kaibab means, “mountain lying down.” It makes sense!
Thanks Kathie. I enjoy sharing the photos and stories, and sometimes even surprise myself with all I’ve seen and done.
I love ‘my’ photo of the scampering squirrel and the snow-powdered view from your window. And that wig one wasn’t bad either! 🙂
The wig kept sliding off my head with my long hair braided and pinned under it. No number this week?
Wow Gaelyn, that sunset is just amazing, certainly my favourite for this week. I wish I could see it for myself, I keep hoping. 4441 for next week.
Until you Can see it for yourself, I’ll keep sharing. Have you down for #4441.
I wish I looked as good at 74 as you did! Maybe I need to borrow your wig.
Lovely sunset images and all the other pix too. I didn’t know what kaibab meant, nor about the mascot.
Heading into Canada tomorow … back to normal sometime next month (and then I’ll be able to join in again).
I could hope to look that good at 74 too, without the wig. Safe journey.
I love the sunrise shot over the Indian Ocean! I’m hoping I won’t be seeing any of that white stuff for a while yet, but you just never know. I’d love to see it on the Canyon though. I’ll pick number 57 for this week.
I hope neither of us see that white stuff too soon. Have you down for #57.
So very lovely!
