This week’s Foto Friday Fun features 6 images chosen by readers from my photo archives.
Elaine chose #729, “for my coming birthday.” The one year ‘birthday’ of the Yarnell fire just past and life returns. Although the colorful wildflowers from spring are now just brown stalks, growth continues and new trees are planted. This is the ‘rock’ garden next to what used to be my storage shed.
Jo chose #911, “which is the date (apart from the 9/11 historical connotation in the USA) on which my dear, beloved dad, Andries, died. He was born in the same era as Nelson and every bit as wise and wonderful as our great statesman.” Last week we celebrated Mandela’s birthday and although difficult to loose special people their memories should carry on to future generations. Let us hope the same is true for our National Parks around the world, set aside to preserve for future generations. The historic Grand Lodge built in the 1930s is part of that legacy and still serving visitors to the Grand Canyon’s North Rim. I took this shot in April before we opened, and yes, that’s snow.
Sherry chose #6767 in the spirit of Nelson Mandela International Day last Friday when people of the world were asked to take 67 minutes of action to make the world a better place. I know she’d agree that National Parks help make the world a better place and Tsitsikamma along the South African coast belongs in that group of special places. Sherry and David have hiked along many park shorelines in the US and go out of their way for waterfalls so I think they’d like the Tsitsikamma waterfall trail where this shot was taken in February this year.
Bo chose #1882, “the year my great grandmother was born, one of the most courageous women I’ve ever known who lived with bravely and perseverance in a world not quite ready for her visionary/independent ways.” I think these kind of characteristics are carried in the genes because Bo sure demonstrates them. I admire women who step out independently but would have a difficult time walking a one mile trail in 3” heels like this Zion National Park visitor. I guess we all march to a different drummer.
Diane chose #3339, another variation on the high number of choice. This tree seen in Hluhluwe iMfolozi National Park caught my eye as a true variation in growth pattern with its tipping ways. Of course it might have had a gentle push by an elephant passing by.
Yogi chose #996, “because that is almost the exact distance from where I live in Tulsa to my Dad’s house in Idaho Falls.” He recently completed that road trip with his son but I’ll bet they didn’t get any lion sightings along the way. Experiencing a family of lions walk right past the vehicle in Kruger National Park took my breath away. Although I have seen many lions since then, my first visit in 2010 will always be the most memorable. Thanks Joan for sharing this.
My choice this week is the first Huge canyon view when arriving at Jumpup Point, the most remote place I’ve experienced on the rim of Grand Canyon.
Thank you for joining in Foto Friday Fun where readers choose a number from my archives and I share the corresponding photo and a story. To join in the fun for next week leave a number between 01 and 9993 in a comment and feel free to leave a reason for your number choice.
Do you have a favorite from this week?
I have so many photos to share so as I label them (yes, I’m anal like that) I post every 100th image on the Geogypsy Facebook page where you can follow along.
Capturing the present for future memories of the past
I HAVE AN IDEA! Do you have SO many photos that you’d like to share more? Would you participate in a Foto Friday Fun meme? I can create a link for us all to connect and share our photos and memories. Every week a participant could choose a number for the following week participants. Or am I the only one who’s photos are numbered in some way, like the camera’s number or date even? If interested, let me know and please offer suggestions how to make this work. I’d like to see more of your photos and stories shared. Plus it’s a great way to expand our blogger friends and readers.
Wow, I love memes and will certainly participate. Many of my photos have been renamed so details are a little hazy but my memory isn’t! (Grant says it’s like that of an elephant!) I’m off to SA starting Monday, and will check in here when back home next Friday. Meanwhile my choice for next Friday is 2090 – the date of my beautiful niece’s wedding next Saturday with a zero tagged onto the end. Have a great day. Jo xx
I will hopefully try to start the meme in a couple weeks. Have fun in SA. Have you down for #2090.
Great images and I love the lions. I did have a Lion sighting but it was at the Idaho Falls Zoo.
I’d be game for participating in a meme. My photos are numbered by the various cameras I have so I have a plethora of numbers to choose from. The trick would be on how to pick the numbers.
Maybe the participants could take turns picking numbers?
Guess a zoo lion sighting is better than no lions at all. 😉
I will try to start up the meme in a couple weeks. Was thinking that participants could take turns picking the number.
But no number from you this week?
Here I am again. Love all these, but especially the sideways tree, whatever its reason for being that way is.
Next week I’ll have number 1978, when my son was born. He was first, so daughter will have to wait until you offer a similar range of numbers!
Bet it feels good to be home.
Have you down for #1978.
Difficult choice, I love Tsitsikamma, the lions, my leaning tree and the canyon. Great selection. I am now losing track of the 3’s and the 9”s so how about 9992 for next week. Have a great weekend Diane
You are so right – I love my National Parks and that African coastline. Seeing a waterfall in South Africa ranks right up there behind Lions and Giraffes. I was in a buffalo jam in Theo. Roosevelt National Park 2 or 3 days ago. What fun that was. But a lion jam now that’s spectacular and so is that picture.
My pictures are all on various backup drives so it would be really hard for me to participate in the meme and I’ve had several different cameras with separate numbering systems. Feels like too much work to go looking for a number. Don’t know how you do it. Well yes I do, you are better organized than I. But I’ll take # 6215 for next week.
I’m so far behind on your journey. Hope those were real deal bison and not the hybrids like we have here. Lion jams are the best morning and evening as they like to sleep on the road.
I just do a number search on my drive(s). Have you down for #6215.
Glad to see life returning after the Yarnell fire. Amazing how nature can rejuvenate itself. Love your panoramic Canyon view!
I would be up to participating in a meme. I certainly have enough photos to do it. Put me down for 8802, one of the numbers for the Sandhill Crane photos I uploaded tonight.
I’m still processing that canyon view in my head.
Will try to put together the meme idea in the next couple weeks. In the meantime, have you down for #8802.
Love the lions of course and I know that first sighting will always be special.
Lions excite me every time, but that first time….
I’ve been so busy the last few weeks that I haven’t had time to read blogs. barely had time to publish my own posts.
I don’t number my photos. I put them in categories like places, animals, etc. I’m also afraid to commit to something like this. Already committed to one blog with a daily photo is enough. Having two blogs keep me nice and busy. LOL!
I want to choose a number for next week again. I choose the last one available. #9993
I know how busy life and blogging can be. Have you down for #9993.
