Table Mountain soars 3,558 feet (1,085 meters) above Cape Town, South Africa and there are two ways to get to the top. Either hike the strenuous Platteklip Gorge trail up 1.86 miles (3 km) or take the cableway. The later was my choice on this foggy day. Which way would you choose?
Breathtaking! I think my choice would probably have been to look up from below, but perhaps Marty might be able to coax me into the cable car.
It was an interesting ride up with the cableway doing a slow 360.
What a fantastic photograph Gaelyn. I guess I’d have to look at how scary the trail looks. The cable car looks very scary to me.
Considering I waited in line two hours for the cableway I probably should have hiked, but the trail is very steep and presumably takes 2-3 hours.
I’ll take solid ground any day. Just the photo of the cable car nearly gave me a panic attack! Great shot.

Well there’s solid ground on the top. 😉
You know us, we hiked to the top. We were lucky we had a beautiful day for it too. http://www.travelwithkevinandruth.com/2014/03/on-top-of-table-mountain.html

I was in such a hurry that day didn’t think I had time to hike up. But then I stood in the Q for 2 hours.
I would ride up and hike down, is that an option? I have a horrid fear of heights, but sometimes I can manage the cable cars if I look straight ahead. The views must have been breathtaking!
Sure you could do that. I think many people hike up then take the cableway down. The views from the top were spectacular, between the cloud cover.
YIKES!!! Oh I would take the cable car for sure—-yes I would. MB
I could walk that far if it weren’t straight up the side of a mountain … and it looks like it is. So I guess the tram. Beautiful picture even if foggy
I’m betting it’s almost straight up.
Absolutely stunning photo. I love Table Mountain and can’t get enough of going up. Still want to walk up Platteklip Gorge though
I’d really like to go back. Not sure about the hike up but would like to hike on top.
Great memories, thanks Diane
