Finally a day off work to go play instead of spending days driving and shopping.
So I went out on the Walhalla Plateau intending to hike the Cape Final Trail but the trailhead parking was rather full so instead I parked at the Walhalla overlook and followed game trails along the rim north.
I didn’t go far, probably not more than two miles round trip but it took almost four hours as I stopped every so often to gaze at the canyon.
I like to look back at places I’ve been from a different angle like the Walhalla overlook to the left. And no I didn’t go out on these rocks. I love the rocks, and have respect for them.
Plus I see faces in rocks, like looking at clouds for some. Kind of looks like a dragon to me. Seeing faces in unusual places makes me pareidolia. How about you?
Found a delightful place to sit in the shade on a gnarly fallen tree and look upon Sky Island from a different perspective, plus the canyon beyond.
A delightful treat with no one else around. One of the joys of the North Rim, the quieter, mellow side of Grand Canyon, is finding solitude.
Archeologists have documented Ancestral Puebloan ruins on Sky Island which barely looks big enough for one house and a small garden to me.
As I get nearer I see small holes in the cliff face and wonder what lives there now.
I’m also looking for a possible trail to this island of rock, which I have no intention of following just curious.
The beauty & peaceful serenity makes for a great hike. The photos are magic!
Thanks Lynda. This whole place is magic.
Oh my!! Wish I could have gone with you!! What a beautiful place.
You’d love the hiking here. Someday.
A silly question for someone like you, BUT…have you ever gotten lost while out hiking? What did you do to find your way? I am ever fearful to go on complicated trails for fear of getting lost. I get lost at the mall!!!
This hike was easy, just follow the rim both ways. I’ve only been temporarily lost a couple times. But I pay close attention to the location of the sun and landmarks. I too would get lost at the mall.
Gorgeous photos!!
The psychology phenomenon known as pareidolia must affect photographers more so than those of us that are not. Al, of the Bayfield Bunch, also sees a lot of faces in everyday objects and structures.
I can work myself up to seeing a dragon but If you had asked me to look at the picture and tell you what I saw I doubt seriously if a dragon would have come to my mind. I would have most likely have said – rocks.
Maybe that’s true of photographers. Al sees faces too.
Lets invent a teleport machine so we can visit each other. I want to be there.
Was just wondering how many Geocaches there are in the park? Must be a few with all the trails. And Earth Caches. Got to go and have a look
I really like that idea because the flight is brutal.
I’m sure there are geocaches in the park but being I don’t look for them not sure where. I’ll leave that up to you.
Amazing pictures and scenery. There is so much to see right in your own backyard.
