The North Kaibab Trail from rim to river, 14 miles and a 6,000 foot (1828 meter) change in elevation, winds through several different environments. In the Sonoran desert you might see a bee foraging in the Grizzly Bear Cactus. Hiking in Grand Canyon provides a challenging experience like no other. However, please be prepared for extremes. Temperatures on the North Rim mid-summer might only be 85-95 degrees F (30-35 C) while at the bottom can reach 105+ (40 C).
Beautiful!
The temperatures work in the hikers favor during the early spring or late fall.
My one hike down to Phantom Ranch had us sleeping overnight on the South Rim with snow on the ground and ice on the upper trail. By that afternoon when we reached the canyon bottom it was probably in the mid-70s and we were splashing around in the Colorado River.
I too have experienced the cold on the rim and warmth at the river. But already it’s over 100 at Phantom.
The bee is digging in for the best nectar, I guess. Great photo! I love cactus flowers.
I wouldn’t want to be at Phantom Ranch this time of year. It’ll be smoking hot down there.
Well over 100+ at Phantom these days. That’s just Crazy Hot! I’ll stick to high elevation.
Stunning. Love the bug. 😀
You taught me well, bug lady.
Beautiful. Love the bug in it as well
