This week’s Foto Friday Fun features 7 images chosen by readers from my photo archives. As I just finished labeling over 10,000 photos from three months in South Africa these choices evoke recent memories and call me to return.
Jo chose #9994, the last number in the series. The camera turned over to 01 while visiting Pilanesberg Game Reserve in South Africa where I saw these zebras.
Elaine chose #621 for “the summer solstice.” She watched the midnight sun in Alaska that night but her photo is of a different sky phenomenon. I actually stayed up until midnight photographing the April 15th lunar eclipse from Yarnell, Arizona.
Bo chose #4157, “spells dog in numbers.” And she just adopted a dog which is very cool. Instead of a dog her photo shows an alert mother Kudu with her youngster at Kruger National Park, South Africa. Check out her Big ears all tuned in.
Sherry chose #234. There is a small facility In Pilanesberg Game Reserve with a restaurant where we frequently ate breakfast, a small shop where we even more frequently bought Fruttare Passion Fruit flavor (frozen on a stick), and most important a bathroom. A salt lick has been placed not far from the back deck which entices a variety of animals and provides a show for visitors. With such long legs and neck the giraffe is put in a vulnerable position here and when drinking water.
Yogi chose #550 for “how many miles we drove yesterday.” He and Sweetie were beginning their vacation. I saw these Impalas from camp at Roodeplaat Dam at the end of my three month vacation in South Africa.
MaryBeth chose #80, “My secret.” So now I’m curious as to what is her secret. I was also curious about this dragon fly seen on the roof of a bird hide in Pilanesburg Game Reserve, South Africa.
Jonker chose #6653 which is a tease for him to hike the Waterfall Trail at Tsitsikamma National Park not far from his Port Elizabeth home in South Africa.
My choice this busy week of Star Party on the North Rim is astronomer Lori Prause’s introduction slide and she took us on an excellent adventure around the solar system. Most of the nights have been clear and perfect for star gazing which I haven’t done yet. But I’ve been taking photos of presenters every night and planned to visit the telescopes last night but it turned cloudy and windy. Hoping to get lucky tonight as I don’t have to work tomorrow and could stay up late. Plus I’d like to try some night shots.
Thank you for joining in Foto Friday Fun where readers choose a number from my archives and I share the corresponding photo and a story. To join in the fun for
next week leave a number between 01 and 9993 in a comment and maybe see your chosen image next week.
Do you have a favorite from this week?
Being two months behind on labeling photos I continue to post every 100th image on the Geogypsy Facebook page where you can follow along.
Capturing the present for future memories of the past
Mine is the perfect choice. Thanks. The Tsitsikamma really is one of my favorite places in the world.
Can I have #2345 for next week please
I couldn’t agree more and will return there every time I can. But Kruger is still my top favorite.
Have you down for #2345.
OH BOY! I was hoping my picture was the giraffes and to think that you were doing ttwo of my favorite things, eating breakfast and eating a fruit flavored popsicle, when you saw them. Not sure I can ever beat this picture choice. Great zebras and dragonfly pictures too. Can I get that lucky again with 345 for next week??
If I can ever find fresh passion fruit I’m freezing a bunch of it. Has become my all time favorite. Have you down for #345.
Get back soon. I miss you and our travels!
After it warms up. 😉
I love the zebras but the giraffe pic is my favourite! One of the best adventures I ever had was in 2005 in London when I went to a Star Party which seems like the one you enjoyed! My number for next week is 3007 which is 30 July; the day we fly home on leave. Have a great day. Jo
It was fun to watch the various animals come to the salt lick, I’m just not sure it’s a natural thing to do. The Star Party has been very interesting though still no successful night shots for me. Have you down for 3007.
Very nice collection this week! Excellent job on the photo of the eclipse,. I’ll take 1200 this week as I just spent some time at the midnight hour taking photos of a rainbow.
Thanks Elaine. A midnight rainbow sounds awesome. Won’t be long until monsoon brings rainbows to the canyon. Have you down for #1200.
Oops did I not give you enough numbers? How about your last number backwards for next week 3999, I should be back home with a laptop by then. Take care Diane
So sorry, I forgot to look back at your selection of numbers. My bad. Have you down for #3999 for next week.
No problem, I was away for too long 🙂
Well, I’m spoiled and amongst all your great photos I like the impalas (of mine, I’ll say) the best.
For next week I pick 832 which is the miles we drove back home Saturday from vacation.
Home from vacation already? Have you down for those 832 miles.
I bet that star party was wonderful! What a great place for it. Loving the SA pictures, all of them… I know I’d love it there, but following you is the next best thing to reality. ( We’re in Anchorage … Laundry day and internet /// a great combination; again no sure where we’ll be next week.)
The Star Party was awesome. Some visitors couldn’t figure out what that long smudge in the sky is, the Milky Way. Anchorage sounds like a cool place to be, laundry not so much.
