This week’s Foto Friday Fun features 7 images chosen by readers from my photo archives. I love sharing these memories as photos are drawn up from my past.
Diane chose #356 and she is traveling around Spain and Portugal until July so may not see this for a while. This National Park Service raft on the Colorado River held a fellow Ranger who I’d dropped off at the Lee’s Ferry launch site then hurried to Navajo Bridge to get a shot of him going down river through Marble Canyon. Although I longed to be on this trip I have fond memories of rafting the lower Colorado the previous year.
Sherry chose #7778 and being she liked last weeks photo of elephants at Addo Elephant National Park this time she gets elephants and warthogs. Someday I hope to help her fulfill her dream of sitting for days and weeks watching elephants.
Bo chose #01 to “start at the very beginning.” I thought about showing her my newborn photo but instead she ends up with a spring view of my wheelestate with Carson who loved to play in the snow at Oregon Caves National Monument.
Jo chose #1305 which may remind her of Golden Gate Highlands not far from her South African home. But these sandstone bluffs are in Utah’s Cottonwood Canyon in the Grand Staircase Escalante National Monument.
Yogi chose #59, “cuz that is my age.” He is one spirited guy so should like this image of Spirit Lake from when I worked at Mount St Helens National Volcanic Monument in Washington.
Elaine chose #1024 which used to be the CB radio ‘10’ code for location. Everything was right about this location for a distant view across Kanab canyon while visiting Best Friends Animal Sanctuary in Kanab, an absolutely awesome facility.
Jonker chose #303. In South Africa where he lives there are some very interesting shaped trees like the Quiver Tree, but I’ll bet he hasn’t seen anything like the Ponderosa Pine, as we call it, Candelabra tree at the North Rim. Ponderosa Pines are usually one trunk, maybe with a ‘Y’ split typically caused by a lightning strike. My theory on this candelabra is the side branches all wanted to be a trunk. A panorama was needed to include at least 100 feet of this giant and it turned out a little distorted.
My choice this week from a recent trip to Zion National Park with Bibi who visited me at the North Rim last week. Us fellow bloggers clicked right away and had a great time touring Grand Canyon and Zion. Plus she didn’t even complain about sleeping on an airbed in my RV.
Thank you for joining in Foto Friday Fun where readers choose a number from my archives and I share the corresponding photo and a story. To join in the fun for
next week leave a number between 01 and 9995 in a comment and maybe see your chosen image next week.
Do you have a favorite from this week?
I have so many photos to share from this recent journey in South Africa. So as I label them I’ll post every 100th image on the Geogypsy Facebook page where you can follow along.
Capturing the present for future memories of the past
Hi Gaelyn, those cliffs do remind of the Golden Gate National Park, which is our FAVE park. The elephants and warthogs are my favourite this week. Please could I have 2049 which is the next time there is a Friday 13th AND a full moon on the same day! (((Hugs))) Jo
When I visited Golden Gate I saw much similarity to the SW US cliffs. Have you down for #2049.
Interesting view to see the elephants from behind – especially their ears. We love, love, love, Zion and Bryce Canyons. That area of the country is all kinds of spectacular. Even though the tunnel – of tunnel road in Zion – freaked me out, it was amazing when coming out the other side (on the way toward Bryce) because it was as if we were stepping back in time to Jurassic. We were fortunate to come across several mountain goats/rams (?) walking right alongside of the road. Incredible parks!
All the parks in the SW are special and different from each other. I Love the tunnel, unless have to pay extra for a big rig. Also saw goats. Will post about it soon.
You almost got your “10” code right but not quite. My 10-20 is Chama, NM; that tells you my location. When you posted that 1024 picture you had 10-24 or “Completed last assignment”.
Oops. Guess I forgot them from the old days. And should have remembered 10-20 because I lived at a 1020 address.
Well I’ve been out of touch for awhile but here I am again. Just like the bad penny I keep turning up. Super shots as usual. I’ll pick number 555–no reason. I like 5’s. MB
I’d call you a lucky penny and have you down for #555.
Great photos all especially the one you chose for me!!
Next week, lets see, how about 2014 cuz that is where we are.
I thought you might like that. Have you down for #2014.
Love that photo of Zion! Guess I have to go with 1020…..
Zion is breathtaking. Have you down for #1020.
Just got a connection for a couple of days. Go to Portugal in two days then connection will be difficult. Would love to be on that boat in the cool, very hot here, 41C yesterday, don,t know what that is in F. Hope all well there. Diane.
Yippee, a connection. I know about that lacking but the Mifi seems to be helping me stay on line although still with a slow connection that I’ll just have to get used to at the canyon.
Trust me it was hot on that boat but probably only 31C with 10C water.
Have you down this week for #2356.
Keep having a wonderful adventure.
A great collections of pictures as always. Had a laugh at the Addo photo. You get as many elephant backsides when you take pics of them as you get good frontal pics.
My selection for next week is 9995. Just to see what the last photo in the grouping is.
I always seem to get more butt shots than front shots. Have you down for #9995.
Very nice trip back in memory lane. I love the snowy shot of the RV/trailer…….very cool to be tucked into that winter wonderland. Hope you get that internet thing taken care of. I actually had some time to sit down and read blogs today! Hope everything in Flagstaff went well.
I like seeing Carson in the snow. That’s a great pic of Zion. Glad you had a nice tour of the park with a friend.
Loving the whole collection. Our DIL worked for Best Friends for several years and we always ment to go see it. She worked from home in Colorado except for a few months when she lived at Kanab.
It’s an amazing place that I would recommend you to visit.
