This week’s Foto Friday Fun features 10 images chosen by readers from my photo archives. I love sharing these memories as photos are drawn up from my past.
Yogi chose #5999, “I just took your max number and moved the five to the back of the line.” No going to the back of the line for me while visiting Tsitsikamma National Park South Africa. I like to be on the rocks and close to the crashing waves.
The Guy chose #7456, “randomly.” Many of the animals I saw in South Africa like to roll in the mud but I don’t see it smoothing their skin so have to wonder about the benefits of a mud bath. Yet for this Buffalo the mud may reduce the bugs and feel very cool as it was a little warm in Addo Elephant National Park.
Sherry chose #75 and being she so liked my photo last week with long permed hair I figure she’ll really appreciate this look when Mom gave me my first perm in 1956. At least those perms aren’t as stinky now as back then.
Diane chose #1915, “my Mum’s year of birth.” I’m guessing her Mum may have seen these gorgeously green Drakensburg Mountains having originated from Africa. I so want to hike here again.
Elaine chose #1917, for the date that Denali National Park was established, and she was recently there. Grand Canyon National Park was established just two years later although it had been a National Monument before that. This shot was taken during monsoon season in August over Roaring Springs canyon.
Barb chose #139, “my hubby’s and my ages added. Gosh, we’re OLD!” I don’t think they are old. But this number brought up an old photo of books on the shelves of my old 5th-wheel. I believe you can tell a lot about someone from the books on their shelves. Recognize any of these titles?
Sallie chose #610, for the time her clock said at the time. She likes the outdoors and birding so I believe she’ll like this variety at my Yarnell feeders. Top White-crowned sparrow, right Spotted towhee, and male cardinal.
Bibi chose #3910, “which was the street address of my grandmother’s house, where I spent many a happy summer.” I spent a happy South African summer visiting 10 National Parks with my favorite being Kruger where I saw wild dogs for the first time in my life. I love their almost calico colors. This one appeared to have a blind eye but that didn’t slow it down a bit.
MaryBeth chose #8, “the age of my dog Bingo.” I have to wonder the age of this giant redwood before it fell over exposing a sculptural root wad. Seen at Redwoods National Park.
Jonker chose #21 as “something straightforward.” Being evacuated was not straightforward but stressful, confusing and disorganized. When 1996 winter flooding created an island washing out roads in the Gifford Pinchot forest where I lived as a volunteer along with others we were all helicoptered out to safety. The helicopter part was awesome.
My choice this week taken the second day open at the North Rim while I enjoyed an evening getting to know blogger Bo who knows two other bloggers I know. It was a gorgeous sunset that all my photos of are blurry. But I’m sure there will be more to come because, Rangers get paid in sunsets.
Thank you for joining in Foto Friday Fun where readers choose a number from my archives and I share the corresponding photo and a story. To join in the fun for
next week leave a number between 01 and 9995 in a comment and maybe see your chosen image next week.
Do you have a favorite from this week?
I have so many photos to share from this recent journey in South Africa. So as I label them I’ll post every 100th image on the Geogypsy Facebook page where you can follow along.
Capturing the present for future memories of the past
Love the photo of your perm when you were little. You look so serious! Next week could I have 421? It’s the address of the house I grew up in in Indianapolis.
I was not a happy camper about the perm. Have you down for #421.
Love all the photos as always. The opening one and mine are my favorites. You do look so serious and your hair doesn’t look curly at all. I’d never know it was “permed” if you hadn’t told me. I’m surprised you didn’t wrinkle up your nose at the smell. It was really terrible. I never had a perm until I was in my 40’s and wanted to see how I’d look in curly hair since mine was pretty stick straight. But I knew the smell from being in the “beauty shop”, what a label, getting my hair cut while they were perming others. Loved looking at the book shelf. I always love looking at the books people have since I too think it tells tons about them. I have/had a lot of the ones I see. Next week let’s go for 119.
I think this might have been a pre-perm photo, like I knew what was coming. Like minds love the same books. Have you down for #119.
“My” dingo looks like he’s got all four paws off the ground! Looks happy about that. I have always said I wouldn’t go up in a helicopter unless it was to save my life. Looks like that was your case. Put me down next week for 523—May 23rd, today’s date.
The wild dogs running were all with feet off ground. Amazing! I love helicopter rides, but this one wasn’t my favorite. Have you down for #523.
All wonderful images!
Thanks Geri.
Ah, that was a great sunset! Please put me down for 1734, the number of miles between here and home…
Yes it was, and there will be many more. Have you down for #1734, home sweet home.
Great photos, all of them. The helicopter is my favorite.
Next week, number 806 because that is the time when I looked at the clock.
Thanks Yogi. Have you down for #806.
Love the Drakensberg hills, they bring back many happy memories, thanks for this one. Love all you photos though. Off the top of my head 9696 for next week, Keep well Diane
I really want to spend more time hiking in the Drakensbergs. Have you down for #9696.
I like that last photo–the sun highlighting that one peak is lovely! I’ll take 555 for next week.
Have you down for #555.
What a lot of adventure you have packed in to your one wild and crazy post. The heliocopter evac must be a whole story in itself, which if you’ve ever blogged about it was before I was a follower. I do adore your bird feeder picture — you are absolutely right. My number came up perfectly for me.
I’m so far behind that you probably already have your post put together for Friday. But if you don’t (and only if) I will take #2614. Because we have plans for that date that I will be blogging about if all goes well. .
Funny, I never think of my life as adventurous until I write about it. The evac post is here https://geogypsytraveler.com/2009/10/27/remember-whensday-1996-washington-flood-rescue/
And now you have me wondering what adventure your planning. Have you down for #2614.
I forgot to say that I loved your bookshelf — I got a neckache looking at the titles though — that’s the trouble with virtual bookshelves, it’s hard to pull them out to look at them! (And yeah, I have a few of those here…just used the Audubon in putting my current post together!)
