This week’s Foto Friday Fun features 11 images chosen by readers out of my photo archives. I struggled a little trying to associate the photos with the reason for number choice. My brain and body are actually packing up the RV as I write this post. And by the time you read it I should be parked back at the North Rim of Grand Canyon National Park for my summer as a Park Ranger.
Cheryl chose #2001, “the year I adopted by terrier-mix Cali.” She and Cali travel together in her RV and see some beautiful places in the USofA. Her little Dolphin would be perfect to cruise in South Africa as well and camp at places like Golden Gate Highland National Park.
Elaine chose #5555, “in honor of my granddaughter’s 5th birthday today.” I think a sunrise like this seen over the Indian Ocean in Scottburgh South Africa can’t compare to the beauty of her sweet little granddaughter.
Arija chose #8406, “for no particular reason, just because.” While game driving in Mountain Zebra National Park South Africa most of my images are of wildlife but I also take shots of the landscape, just because.
Nonna chose #2004, “as that was the last year we were in Nelspruit [South Africa].” She’s been following my recent journey and has visited many of the places I’ve posted about but lost her photos in a basement flood. (Been there myself so understand.) I wonder if she’s spent any time just watching the waves at Tsitsikamma National Park.
Diane chose #1234 which takes us up into the Weaver Mountains behind my winter Yarnell home, where the vultures fly.
Bibi chose #4848, “Birth year and the number of states when I was born.” Now how can I tie that in with her choice of Klipspringers seen in Kruger National Park? Help me out here.
Sallie chose #2014 which takes us back to my 2010 visit to South Africa when I hiked in the Drakensberg Mountains. Don’t you just love all the green?
Patti chose #1983, “because that is the year our son was born and he is an attorney with the DOJ so he is all about nature.” All about nature is the best place to be, for me. So I’m thinking he would like the Kaibab National Forest which is my driveway what is driven through to reach my summer home at the North Rim of Grand Canyon.
Yogi chose #007 because he thinks “they modeled James Bond after my own life.” Well Mr Bond, sorry you missed the lunch had at the Grand Lodge with this magnificent view. But I did put it on your tab.
MaryBeth chose #1 and because I used to* number all my photos sequentially every month the number of #1s reaches into the many 1000s. So this is the luck of a draw shot of Carson and me camping along the Yakima River in Washington October 2001. OMG, that’s over 12 years ago when I lived in that 27” 1974 Pace Arrow. Them were the boondocking days. Thanks for the memory MB. (*I am now leaving photo numbers up to the camera{s}.)
Jonker chose #3839, “My age and soon to be age in a couple of months. Oh my word, 40 is approaching.” Being that #3839 had been deleted as a fuzzy photo of monkeys I’m giving him #40 instead so he can have something to look forward to. Like visiting Pilanesberg Game Reserve where this early morning shot was taken.
My choice this week from July 2012 will hopefully be repeated many times as a similar view through the IMAX windows in my RV as I spend the next 51/2 months back to work as a Park Ranger at the North Rim of Grand Canyon National Park. Hope to see you there this summer.
Thank you for joining in Foto Friday Fun where readers choose a number from my archives and I share the corresponding photo and a story. To join in the fun for
next week leave a number between 01 and 9997 in a comment and maybe see your chosen image next week.
Do you have a favorite from this week?
I have so many photos to share from this recent journey in South Africa. So as I label them I’ll post every 100th image on the Geogypsy Facebook page where you can follow along.
Capturing the present for future memories of the past
I love the soaring vulture. I have always said I want to come back to this world as a peregrine falcon so I have not only the speed behind me, but so I can soar and look at the ever changing countryside 🙂 Also love the mist in the Drakensburg. Next week I will go with 1011, the day and month of Nigel’s birthday.
Hope you had a safe trip back with no problems and that the cold vanishes on your arrival. Take care Diane
I too would love to return as a bird and soar above the land. Have you down for #1011.
It’s still winter like at the canyon.
Wow Gaelyn, an amazing selection of stunning photos today. One and each beautiful so I’m not going to select one as a favorite as I would change my mind every few seconds.
For next week I’m selecting the very last number available, 9997. Just to see what it is
OK, you get #9997.
I love the pic you picked for me and the seascape of the Indian Ocean, heck I loved them all.
I pick 59 because that is how old I am. I am into my 19th day of my 59 day birthday celebration this year.
59 it is for you. I’m into the 31st day of my 60th.
Another wonderful selection of photos Gaelyn. I love the landscape I got, as for faves, it comes equal first with that for Elaine. You know how much I like a turbulent seascape and this has such beautiful lighting as well.
Hope you are well and truly over your jet lag and raring to educate another season’s visitors.
For next week, may I please have 1949, the year we left Europe and migrated to Australia since no other country would have us.
Thanks Arija. I do know you love the sea. I’m over the jet lag now just have to get beyond the tired of moving. Have you down for #1949.
I don’t think you have to try to associate the picture with the number. Your pictures are just gorgeous and we are happy to have them even if, like me, you forget to put your number in your comment. Seems to me I am doing this more and more and that I really didn’t do this in the past. So I’d like number 785. I’m thinking of you happily back in the Grand Canyon.
Thanks Sherry. It’s fun to try for the association. Have you down for #785.
I’ll be there by this afternoon.
I love the landscape photo you picked for me. 🙂
Your photo of you and your dog along the river was certainly a “blast from the past” and fun! I didn’t know that you had been RV-ing for so long.
Next week I pick #4999 – I tried to divide to pick the middle, but it’s an odd number. 😉
I’ve been living, almost, full-time in a RV of some sort for 22 years. It’s the only way I can own a home. Have you down for #4999.
Such a loaded question you ask us every week … do you have a favorite? And I never can answer; you always have so much varied beauty. Glad to see the explanation of your numbers — I always wondered about that (if you told us before I missed that lesson as I was probably too busy gazing at your photos!) So now I have to wonder if my photos have numbers. Huh. One more thing to think about as I try to sort and make some sort of order out of my archives. Can I be last this week? 9997?
Most cameras have a numbering system. How about you be second to last as Jonker already chose the last one. So I’m putting you down for #9996.
I love the shot of the mountains dressed in green.
You could ride forever in those mountains of green.
More gorgeous photos! It’d be hard to beat the sunrise you chose for me! You’re right, though, about the beauty of my granddaughter. There’s something about the innocence and the joy on the face of a child, especially a grandchild, that tugs at your heartstrings. The older I get the more I’m in tune with the beauty in Nature and the beauty in children. I’ll pick 60 this week, as our high temperatures are predicted to be in the 60s all this week. Hooray!
I know what you mean about nature and children, they are both a wonder. Glad it’s warming up because at the North Rim it’s Cold and Snowing! Have you down for #60.
Thanks for the memories—yours of course. Wow 12 years ago. A lot of stuff has changed for me for sure. Some good some not so good but we all keep truckin’ along. Your pics are–as before–amazing. I can’t pick a favorite. Keep up the good works and speaking of work–glad you are back. MB
It feels good to be back at the canyon. Even though it started snowing last night and continues today. I’m not keen on winter but know we need the moisture very much. Have you down for #2011.
Oops forgot the Number. I’ll pick 2011 the year I met Bob—still together–OMG!!!!!
MB
Thanks for those cute little guys…they way they are standing reminds me of the push-me-pull-you in Dr. Doolittle.
And I positively love those green mountains.
Next week I’ll have 3333. No reason; just looks nice.
Nature is such a wonder. Have you down for #3333.
Good grief! Compare that camper with what you have now. A big difference but I like that one too although smaller.
That old motorhome did me well for 7 years. It’s about 9 ft shorter than the current one which of course has the 3 slideouts too.
