This week’s Foto Friday Fun features 6 images chosen by readers out of my photo archives. Now that I’m back in Arizona, and have access to All my photos, the images will be mixed up a bit more than exclusively South Africa. Yet there’s many more of those to come as well.
Sallie chose #1579, “For no reason. Just because it’s not a multiple and doesn’t have a 6 in it.” From the Grand Lodge on the North Rim of Grand Canyon National Park the multiple views provide more than 6 peaks in almost any direction. Looking southeast during monsoon season clouds hanging in multiple small canyons highlight the ridges and temples.
Bibi chose #2, which takes us back to 1997. She likes to explore thrift shops, second hand stores, and presumably fleamarkets too. Well I used to sell at fleamarkets with the help of my trusty companion Carson. He’s just a puppy in training here in Carson, Washington where we lived and sold.
Sherry chose #4644 and she likes to walk, hike and bike so has a great pair of legs. Much better looking than these giraffe’s legs seen at Kruger National Park, South Africa. but I’ll wager it could out run her.
Yogi chose #321123 as “my number for next month.” Being I have no numbers that big I divided it in half for the two weeks left in the month. #321 shows snow melt along the road to the entrance station of the North Rim when I arrived in April 2012. I have no idea what the snowpack was this winter so will just be surprised at the conditions when I return the end of this April. Sometimes there’s still lots of snow.
Jo chose #3500, “no reason.” If she has a reason to travel between Nelspruit and St Lucia during her May holiday she may see this view along the way. I think we were caught in construction traffic when I shot this view.
Diane chose #9966. She is currently traveling in France yet in the past visited Pilanesberg Game Reserve in South Africa so I think she’ll like seeing this Terrapin I saw at the birdhide along the Mankwe Dam. This is the same species of ‘attack turtles’ encountered at Kruger National Park so I kept my distance.
My choice… As I continue to label the 1000s of photos taken during the last three months touring South Africa feelings of warm memories flood my senses. Everybody loves the animals. We speculate on what they are thinking. I could watch them for hours—maybe even days if it was possible. We all live on the same planet along with all other life. Do they wonder about us? Taken at Kruger National Park.
Thank you for joining in Foto Friday Fun where readers choose a number from my archives and I share the corresponding photo and a story. To join in the fun for
next week leave a number between 01 and 9997 in a comment and maybe see your chosen image next week. And now that I have access to my all my photos the images
shouldn’t be only from South Africa.
Do you have a favorite from this week?
I have so many photos to share from this recent journey in South Africa. So as I label them I’ll post every 100th image on the Geogypsy Facebook page where you can follow along.
Capturing the present for future memories of the past
Welcome back! I hope you had a great trip!
My number for next week is 2001 – the year I adopted my terrier-mix Cali. 🙂
Thanks Cheryl. Had a wonderful time. Have you down for #2001.
Even though you had a wonderful time in South Africa, I’ll bet you’re excited to get back to the Canyon. I really love that first picture of the Canyon!
I am ready to go back to the canyon. Have you down for #5555. Hard to believe she’s 5 already.
Oh, I forgot to give you a number for next week. I’ll go with 5555 in honor of my granddaughter’s 5th birthday today.
Love the girl power of that pride of lionesses . . what a sot!!!, and I’d say what an experience to see them in the flesh.
My second fave. is the first shot of Grand Canyon with clouds.
Hope you count me in with 8406 for no particular reason, just because . . .
Mostly lioness but the one on the right is a young male just getting a bit of mane. It sure is a thrill to see them so close. Will be at the canyon in another week. Have you down for 8406.
I pick 2004 as that was the last year we were in Nelspruit, I have been following your trip and wishing my husband and I could visit the area again. We visited many of the same places as you, but had a flooded basement and lost all our pictures. Thank you for sharing yours.
Glad I could bring back some memories for you of a most beautiful country. And thank you for commenting and joining in. Have you down for #2004.
Great selection of photos but you got it right, the terrapin is my favourite. Just got back after being away for the week, ready to hit the sack 🙂 We fitted a lot in over a few days. Next week, how about 1234 :)) Keep well and sorry about the scratch, some drivers do not care!! Have a good Easter, Diane
I thought you’d be glad not see hyenas. Welcome home. Look forward to some great posts from this excursion.
Hi, Gaelyn. I see now that you used to sell at flea markets. I go to them, too, whenever I can.I like that photo with little Carson, and both the bumper stickers I can make out. Also like the terrapin photo! Next week I’ll have # 4848. Birth year and the number of states when I was born.
I figured you’d be a fleamarket shopper. Have you down for #4848.
The lions surely do look as if they’re wondering about you .. or us. Lovely stuff today. I always wonder about the Southwest in Monsoon season, so it was fun to see the panorama of it in ‘my’ picture. I linked over to your post about flea-marketing. I wasn’t reading you yet when you posted that originally. Fun knowing a little of your ‘backstory’.
The canyon is gorgeous even under cloud and rain. There are many more stories of my past under “The gypsy life” if you search. No number this week?
Great photos! I never get tired of looking at the Grand Canyon – it’s magnificent. I choose # 1983 because that is the year our son was born and he is an attorney with the DOJ – Environment and Natural Resources Division – so he is all about nature. Always has been.
I don’t know how anybody could get tired of looking at the Grand Canyon, and soon I’ll be sharing more recent photos. Have you down for #1983.
Oh I forgot to leave a number. On purpose so I’d have a good reason to come back and stare into those lion eyes again! (;>)…How about 2014. If that’s been chosen, I will take #1 or the lowest number that is still available.
#2014 it its.
Welcome home, You are really going to have to do something with the participants who can’t follow simple rules on the numbers. Oh, that was me. Well, you know, forget what I just said.
My favorite isthe lions in the road.
My number this week is 007. I think they modeled James Bond life after my own.
I really do like “rule breakers” so you’re in luck Mr Bond, of the 007.
The early morning shot of the lions in the road is stunning Gaelyn.
Wasn’t it great to see the lions under the morning light.
Your pictures are all so wonderful. Love the Lionesses in the road. They own it don’t they. How about #1. Thanks, MB
Lions frequently sleep over night on the warm roads so saw them many mornings ‘owning’ it. Have you down for #1.
My favorite this week is the one of the lions in the road. Some people think we actually have lions walking around our road and in between our huts where we all live. LOL! My number for this week is 3839. My age and soon to be age in a couple of months. Oh my word, 40 is approaching
Some people, don’t have any idea what it’s like in SA. Have you down for 3839. Hey, you’re getting to be an old man. 😉
