This is the most common antelope of the bushveld regions of South Africa. Impala are typically found in three distinct social groups, the female herds, the bachelor herds and the territorial bulls. Mating season happens toward the end of the wet season in May then 6-7 months later a single calf is born which will stay with its mother for 4-6 months.
Beautiful animals. The last Impalas I saw on the road looked like this!
LOL. Have a friend who had one of those years ago.
I love the impalas. I have really enjoyed following your travels and seeing the incredible wildlife.
Are they related to the pronghorn? Run as fast? What a sweet tail that is. Great shot of the family.
So enjoying your trip, Gaelyn. Such sweet beautiful animals, these Impalas and captured perfectly in this shot!
All these Mamas feeding babies right out on the road! I think they want to be featured on your blog.
Guess I’m making Mamas famous.
It’s always special when you see young animals suckling from mama.
We are so lucky all these animals through your eyes…
Nice that they are not spooked by people being around–it certainly makes for some wonderful photos for you!
