This week’s Foto Friday Fun features 6 images chosen by readers out of my photo archives. All photos are from my current journey through South Africa.
Jo chose #989, “just to stay in the game!” Her game this week includes a pair of Hyena pups suckling at Kruger National Park South Africa. These pups were probably a couple years old and should have been past this point but as we saw the next day there were two other younger pups as well.
Sherry chose #515. This lion was ‘cat napping’ after a quick bit of mating and while waiting for the female to initiate for another go. We got to watch them mate three times in Kruger National Park. It’s rather fast and furious and continues about every 10-20 minutes for three days. Hard to say how long they’d been at it but no wonder he was tired.
Jonker chose #783, “Just another random number.” And this is just another random sighting of elephants at Kruger National Park. However you might notice the baby suckling.
Bibi chose #555 which is the number of stairs she goes up and down every day. She must be in great shape. So how about a great sunrise taken on the beach below our camp in Scottburg South Africa.
Yogi chose #666, “cuz it is the mark of the beast.” Instead of a beast he gets shallow caves where marine fossils are found at Wild Coast Sun in Port Edward South Africa.
Diane chose #777 which features one of the many machines used to clean mohair. The tour took us through the entire process except sheering and I bought some mohair socks. Love how soft, silky and warm they are. Will post about the tour soon.
My choice this week is my favorite animal and experience of the trip so far. In Addo Elephant National Park yesterday we saw over 100 elephants and were at one time surrounded. What could be more endearing than a mother and child.
Thank you for joining in Foto Friday Fun where readers choose a number from my archives and I share the corresponding
photo and a story. To join in the fun for next week leave a number between 01 and 999 in a comment and maybe see your
chosen image next week.

I really like all of these photos, especially the baby elephant following its mother, the mark of the beast one, and of course mine. That would be a good place to relax after my 555 stairs. Just came back from my morning dog walk; 111 down, 444 to go.
Dang. Forgot to choose a number. How about 31, for Baskin Robbins 31 flavors. Make mine chocolate chip mint.
Have you down for #31. Make mine Creme Brule please.
I found my photo very interesting, mohair socks, that sound like a great idea for winter.. Must visit there WHEN we return, where is it? I cannot decide which I like best I love the baby elephant suckling but I also love the sunrise. How about number 10 next week the date of Nigel’s birthday. Oh how I want to return to S.A. Take care Diane
We toured the Hintervelt Mohair factory in Uintenhauge. I will post about the tour one of these days. Was very interesting and informative. You really do need to return to SA. Have you down for #10.
What excellent choices your viewers have this week Gaelyn. I love all the babies.
Mom and baby elephant — either picture — I just can’t stop smiling. Love them. Would have never thought about you taking a factory tour…for sure if we were there, Bill would sign up for that. I always think I’m just going on them b/c I have to, and then end up glad I went. Usually. If you have room I will choose #12. It is the number of my descendants (to date). (I am thinking about motherhood I guess after seeing your baby pictures here!)
Got to break up the wildlife viewing with something else once in a while and I knit and love mohair. Few years ago I toured a silk spinning factory here. Have you down for #12.
Number 415 please. I love my picture. That big old beautiful devil. Does he have more than one gal?? Surrounded by elephants is what I’d love for my next wildlife experience. Sounds fantastic!!
Don’t think he has more than one gal, at a time. 😉 I can arrange an African safari for you if you’d like. Cost about $100/day camping plus airfare. Have you down for #415.
Your favorite is my favorite this week. I think that a pair of mohair socks would be wonderful to wear after my long runs on wednesday nights. My number for this week is 333. Cuz it is half the number of the beast.
I wear my mohair socks in hiking boots all work season. Thank goodness I don’t need them here during summer in my sandals. Have you down for #333.
Oh, and hyenas are my favourite carnivores! Thanks:) I also love the two ellie pics. Excellent post as always, Gaelyn. My number for this week is 442 – we’ve been married for 42 and I added 400 for fun! Have a great weekend. Jo
I too really like hyenas. Have you down for 442. And Happy Anniversary!
I love the photo of the elephant with her baby suckling. You’ve gotten so many wonderful photos in SA. Give me 500 for next week.
And there should be many more to come. Have you down for #500.
Some awesome photos this week. I so love game reserves and is glad you’re having the time of your life on this trip visiting places like Kruger and Addo again. I’m also glad you got to go on the mohair mill tour at Hinterveld. Its really a gem of an attraction which most people won’t even consider yet is something you shouldn’t really miss.
Next week’s number is 593. Just another random number for another random awesome picture.
The Hinterveld tour was an amazing 2+ hours as we did more than the usual ‘tourist’ tour. Next stop Mt Zebra.
Have you down for #593.
